I never give a film such a high review but this one earns top marks and top respect. The editing could appear as amateurish but the narrative touches every nerve in your body, then simultaneously shocks them all.
This film should have never been made and it makes me hate this fucking country...
There needs to be more awareness around the film's subject matter.
Kong. 7 / 10
Good scenes and directing was pretty unique at some points. The destination shoots are great too. I did find a lot of wtf weird moments.
1) 5-10 people with AK-47 and you're trying to fight against monsters the size of CN tower. WTF.
2) Samuel Jackson; while his acting was on point but whoever wrote his character is gay as fuck. Actually, all characters are fucked. Jing Tian & Brie Larson pretty much did nothing. Only reason I saw Brie shoot a gun was cause of the flare. The whole time she was taking pics. I don't even know if Jing ever fired a shot. (who was giving the role to get Chinese exposure?)
3) luckily i stayed the end and saw the extra clip.
It's a different spin for typical King Kong so I'm happy it worked out ok.
Had doubts after watching trailer, then got hyped up by people who watched and the reviews.... damn, FEELS. Solid movie, if you think deeply about the storyline afterwards its weird, but overall pretty damn good.
+Beautifully shot cyberpunk aesthetic and atmosphere
+Decent action scenes
+Excellent casting if you can get past the white-washing
+A couple scenes and designs were straight from the anime which was cool to see redone live
-Weak plot not faithful to the original made the film more shallow and less cohesive than it could have been. Wasted potential
-Weak dialogue catered to young teens and technologically inept. Basic concepts having to be explained was tiresome
-Weak climax battle and antagonist
-PG-13
Stray observations:
They tried to make Scar Jo look asian in her first scene. Pretty trippy.
Plot was pretty much
Spoiler!
subplot of "V For Vendetta" but with robots
I expect it to be polarizing, especially for fans of the original. If you're looking for a faithful adaptation of the original anime, best to avoid it. But for those who haven't seen the original, its a pretty cool action flick with really nice art. Plus Scarlett Johansson.
i thought it was really legit. Characters were very nicely done, why? Cause Jacky Chan is not the action hero who saves the day like every other movie. Focus was all on team work and rest of the cast.
Great pacing, most of the stuff (background) were blue screen but the train was real, train station was real so you can totally see the difference. The crash / final scene were done with a 1:4 model making it much more realistic.
This movie had the same feel to Plan A + Drunken Master oldie feel but without the jacky chan kicking ass every time.
1) Darren Wang 王大陸 (up and raising actor) was placed in the movie but due to his cocky contract dispute, even though he was on all the posters in the movie, he only had like 10 lines in the movie and in 4-5 scenes. Less than 10 minute screen time.
2) Jacky Chan's son (Jaycee Chan / 房祖名), who got caught in the drug & doping charges few years ago was actually the supporting actor in this movie but name and face was never mentioned in the movie posters.
Much better than Kungfu Yoga, would definitely watch again. 8/10
I thought the movie was brilliantly made. Really enjoyed it. I didn't find it to be a tearjerking movie at all, maybe it's just me. Could've easily deserved a 9.

film is made by the guys best friend so its heavily biased, it was meant to be a documentary about the father, to be given to the kid when he got older, but ended up being an anti canadian justice system piece as events unfolded

Logan
7/10.
Last 1/4 of the movie, I didn't really like. It turned into a cliche fight and only X-23 could fight well among the kids
Get Out
7/10
Started strong, good movie, tense.
Kong
6/10
I enjoyed the previous King Kong movie more
Lego Batman
9/10
Probably IMO the best Batman movie ever
Your Name
9.5/10
Watched it twice, I've watched some other movies by the director (5cm per second, Garden of words) I really thought this was a better movie, felt more complete, and the story covered a lot more things in a well done manner. I found it thoughtful. Really enjoyed the movie a lot.
The menu; spin off of a TV series. It's actually not bad. the antagonist (who used to be in a lot of stephen chow's movie) did a really good job, but the script at the end really really fell short.
7/10
The Hand Maiden. (same director who did Old Boy, Thirst; famous Korean director)
7/10
beautifully shot; weird story and full on lesbo sex scenes (that's his thing).
wan't my cup of tea. No wonder him and Ridley Scott work so well together (in another film with Nicole Kidman called Stoker). They have weird ways to do things.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2: 8.5/10
Very funny movie, full points for entertainment. And yes, lots (5) of after credits scenes.

Fast 8: 7/10
Wasn't as exciting as the previous movie.
Spoiler!
The best scene I thought was when Dom was stuck in the middle of a street intersection with the hooks. But that is almost the same scene from the movie Hitman Agent 47. Felt like they copied it but Fast8 did a better job at it.
Only good scene from fast 8 which was a little disappointing.
