"Nobody" 7/10.
john wick clone but with his wife still alive, they even included a muscle car & Russians.

Hutch's father played the role perfectly, i really feel it was a comedic twist on the series, the laughs saved the movie

Riders of Justice 8/10.

i really like the gun handling scenes and the actor Mads Mikkelsen who played the villain in 007 films he mostly carries the film with B grade actors.

Nobody was a great movie, there were 2 post credits? Surely it'll be picked up again like john wick type genre / sequel.

just don't milk this too much plz.

brainless movie, good pacing 8.5/10

Mr.Money 04-24-2021 01:01 AM

mortal kombat 2021.

7/10. good effects but story telling is kind of weak, everything happens in perfect order for the "Heros"....the 90's MK will still hold the best version for Nostalgia

few laughs from "Kano" since he's such a rat aussie bastard.
i just didn't like how it was too much of a "quick wrap up" and they were so set on dragging it on in future films.

Netflix

Turkish movie regarding group of kids living in the slums picking paper and carboard. For a 96 min movie; just slightly glide thru setup and a brief movie regarding tough times. I wouldn't watch the previews. Not a comedy but all in all the kid totally made the movie.

FYI, subtitles are needed. 7.5/10 there are a few loop holes and the setup was a bit slower but if you look past this, it's ok.

The trailer and "first 7 mins leak" got me pretty pumped for the movie ... unfortunately the first 10min of the movie turned out to be the best part.

Apparently Liu Kang is from Vancouver, my brother knows him from YMCA, his over-acting was terrible haha

SkinnyPupp 04-26-2021 10:07 PM

I stopped watching after about half an hour, so I can't give it a "final score" but Mortal Kombat was trash. Just dull boring shit with horrible acting and bad CG.

Disclaimer: Maybe the movie got REALLY GOOD after that, so take my feedback with a grain of salt. I only saw part of it, but based on what I saw, I'd give it a 0/10

Also disclaimer: My interest in Mortal Kombat stopped after the third game. I have no fucking idea what the whole world is about, and the movie doesn't tell you much. Maybe if you're a hardcore fan you'll really like it. For instance, I liked the Warcraft movie, despite it also being garbage, so to each their own SeemsGood

Mr.Money 04-27-2021 01:11 AM

what's weird is that one of the actors said he signed a 4 movie deal for a trilogy, i knew the fucked up pacing there was something going on.

it's funny you guys mention the over-acting from Liu Kang, Watch him talking to the Fight manager near the end and see how way too overly happy they both are like a Disney sitcom lol.

anything else?...the new fucking MK theme was terrible, i wanted to hear it during the credits & was disappointed i didn't hear "MORTAL COMBATT!!!!!!"...but it was some dubstep bullshit mixed in.

55 million dollar budget and probably not even making any gains I'll be surprised if future films get invested in.

68style 04-27-2021 07:37 AM

I never really thought the game was much to cry home about from the very beginning, kind of shitty version of Street Fighter just with cool finishing moves... once you saw them it was like meh who cares haha.

Movie had its moments though, very much a frat boy/Chad movie I think or for anyone that was really into the game for reasons, as mentioned above, that I don't understand.

I'd give it 5/10 for the beginning and the end and for it allowing me to do chores at the same time since it didn't need paying attention to lol

sonick 04-27-2021 07:53 AM

Godzilla v Kong 2/10

I thought I would enjoy this brainless monster movie considering how much I loved Nobody, being a brainless action movie. But I agree with other posts above that I think watching CGI monsters fight just isn't very engaging because my brain knows it's all animated. Was so disengaged I fell asleep pretty much halfway through.

Anyone try to watch any of the Best Picture Nominees?
Nomadland - Disney+?
The Father - On Demand
Judas and the Black Messiah - where to watch?
Mank - on Netflix
Minari - On Demand
Promising Young Woman - On Demand
Sound of Metal - Where to watch?
The Trial of the Chicago 7 - on Netflix

I've only seen the two on Netflix. I thought Chicago 7 was pretty good, but Mank was a snoozer unless you're super knowledgeable and into Old Hollywood. I watched Citizen Kane ages ago but if you didn't tell me it was about that I would have had no idea.

Some of the above movies you can find On Demand, but they're going upwards of $20+ for 2 days.

mikemhg 04-27-2021 12:22 PM

Watched Nobody = 8/10. Even my gf enjoyed it. Personally, I enjoyed the movie even more than John Wick, this one was more saddled in reality, and the character is somewhat more intriguing.

Nomadland = 8/10 it was good, standard adventure/minimal dialog film. It was good, but movie of the year? Fuck off :lol

mikemhg 04-27-2021 12:25 PM

Oh yes:

Judas and the Black Messiah - 8.5/10
The Trial of the Chicago 7 - 8.5/10
Sound of Metal - 8/10

All solid movies, I didn't realize how weak of a movie year 2020 was though, nothing really stood out to me.

I honestly feel like movies are going backwards here, TV shows are getting better, movies are regressing. They all just seem same same, recycled ideas, film and directing styles, etc.

You already saw all the best parts. No joke. If you saw the rest it would be negative rating.
Hiroyuki's (Scorpion) acting set the bar high and then Liu Kang shows up and I started laughing at his flamboyant over acting, the contrast was night and day. When he put his arm out to tell them to stop he did a mini-dance move and I lost it :haha:
I can't see them continuing this series ... and as campy as the original was, it was much better than this.

Obsideon 04-27-2021 12:33 PM

and they should have let Tadanobu (Raiden) grow a beard.
https://media.gettyimages.com/photos...5043?s=612x612

He looked more like Raiden in Thor than this.

6793026 04-27-2021 01:40 PM

Sound of Metal was legit.
i can't wait to watch The Father. I didn't watch preview but read a good review stating it's not about relationship of a father. There are some fancy artsy directing skills involved so i'm intrigued.
the only one i'm not a fan of in watching is Mank but i know Skippy has been all over that so i'll give it a shot (even know i know it's a different genre type movie).

英皇電影(英語:Emperor Motion Pictures) owner of Twins, Nicholas, Joey music owner said he will invest in 10 Honger Cantonese movie.

This was SUPER good. ROM COM at its best in Canto.
2 supporting actor was from drama school / background and it showed how good it was.

30 yr old couple figuring out whether marraige is for them; BBF of both sides of the guy and girl takes part in their jounrey with SUPERB scripting interwoven together.

There ain't good rom com around so I really enjoyed this, esp. in Canto.

NOT cheesy but hilarious adult humor. Not Taiwanse love fest but good writing and pacing of movie made it for me.

9/10. No inception twist, no special effects... just rare to see good canto movie come by

Obsideon 04-27-2021 03:47 PM

^ needs more hot chicks hehe
Where can I watch it? or just Chinese movies in general nowadays? I haven't seen a new Asian movie in I don't know how long now.
Back in the day I used to hoard those DVDs from the shops in Richmond, $15 for 4 haha

My ratings:

Nomadland - 7.5/10. Interesting story but too slow/artsy
The Father - Haven't watched.
Judas and the Black Messiah - 8.5/10. Great acting by both co-leads.
Mank - 7/10. Lot of solid technical directing/filmmaking from David Fincher but story was boring.
Minari - 9/10. Great story, highly touching being Asian. My fav of the bunch, but gutwrenching.
Promising Young Woman - Haven't watched.
Sound of Metal - 8.5/10. Great story.
The Trial of the Chicago 7 - 8/10. Engaging courtroom thriller.

winson604 04-29-2021 08:57 AM

Mortal Kombat - I don't even know how to rate it or if I should rate it. As a movie yea it was terrible, your typical bad acting, insanely rushed story and the usual mishaps.

On the flip side did I enjoy it? Not as much as I expected to but yea shiet it was like guilty pleasure shit. Rated R check, some great fatalities check. Some of the characters were lame as fuck but some were amazing. Kung Lao was awesome, Kano completely stole the show he was the best, Scorpion, Sub zero, and Sonya I had no issues with. I don't know, as a father of 2 now and rarely having 2 full hours of sitting down and watching a movie with patience I need brainless easy watches like this just in and out and be done. I'm not nearly as bothered by this film them some.

Obsideon 04-29-2021 05:49 PM

My main issue was flaming (in more ways than one) Liu Kang who stole the show in all the wrong ways haha

what a great movie.

Daughter + Father both dealing with being with each other's face after the dad is dealing with memory loss / Alzheimer's.

As much as it's a family dynamic relationship, Florian Zeller does such an AMAZING job on the editing, you'll be on the seat the whole time trying to figure out what the fuck is going on.

Extremely simple script with well intension and editing makes a movie vibrant of a mind fuck all the way along.
Definitely enjoyed the journey. 9/10

sonick 05-01-2021 09:08 AM

The gift (2015) 8.5/10

Saw this on trending in Canada on Netflix, hadn't heard of it before but saw it started Jason Bateman who I enjoy and was rated pretty high on rotten tomatoes.

Although it's one of those movies you dont want to watch again, it's such a mindfuck and the rollercoaster of emotions the movie manages to take you through is recognized. Closest movie I can describe is Se7en, maybe not as intense and definitely not as violent as that but the psychological mindfuck is about that level.

mk1freak 05-01-2021 12:04 PM

Without remorse.
Tom Clancy movie set in the Jack Ryan world.
6/10
Typical kill my family, I get revenge type movie. I went in expecting a jack ryanish vibe(show) but felt like they went full retard instead. Michael b Jordan kicks ass though.
Maybe I'm just getting old that's why I didn't rate it higher than a 6.

Ngl I was expecting cameos from the jack Ryan series. Much disappoint.

Promising young woman.
"A young woman, traumatized by a tragic event in her past, seeks out vengeance against those who crossed her path." from wiki.
Went in with no expectation.

very diff take of thriller / female hero type movie. A bit of a weird and interesting story line. Doesn't quite fit the hollywood formula.

Decent ending... I do like her, just not in this movie. I see how and they are trying to do, but something just didn't jive too much. Ending wrapped it up; all in all 7.5/10
