RRR's song Naatu Naatu won best song at the Oscars. Massive win for South Indian film.

Happy for her! Been a big fan for decades

whitev70r 03-12-2023 08:15 PM

This is a 9/10 movie for me. I had a blast

I think we've debated here about "turn off your brain" movies on and off for many years, and how much they usually suck (IMO). Even the enjoyable ones. But for me this is the ultimate "turn off your brain" movie. Just enjoy the ride.

Also I grew up loving HK cinema, but I haven't really been into since the early 2000's when it was finishing up falling apart from its 90's peak. But this had a lot of that great HK cinema humor I have missed for the past 2 decades.

Also Michelle Yeoh is so great.

Great movie, highly recommended. Don't read about it, just watch it.

Bumping this for the Oscar wins. Go see that movie! But don't read anything about it first. Also don't set your expectations TOO high - it's just a fun 'turn off your brain' movie to enjoy. Obviously it was very good at that.

SkinnyPupp 03-12-2023 08:34 PM

Also I watched Titanic again last night, and that is now an actual CLASSIC. It is pretty much a perfect action movie, and unlike a lot of movies from the 90's, has aged very well (with the exception of some dodgy CGI). 10/10

I'm happy for Ke Huy Quan was such a fan of his as a kid, who would have ever thought he'd regain any prominence? Love that he thanked Jeff Cohen and the fact Harrison Ford gave out the award for best picture and they had a moment on stage, he seems like such a good guy, what a great story!

It was like Asian night ... lots of nominees and a couple of winners. Even the nurse, Hong Chau, in The Whale (nominated) was Asian. And then the best song from an East Indi movie ... in the genre of Bollywood and classic musicals ... nice!

radeonboy 03-13-2023 09:12 AM

^RRR was a ton of fun - I watched it in January and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hondaracer 03-13-2023 11:07 AM

While everything everywhere all at once kinda felt like it stole a lot from matrix/multiverse marvel stuff it’s by far the best “new” movie I’ve watched in a long time

Mr.Money 03-13-2023 03:58 PM

crazy to think Jackie Chan turned down the role of the film and its hugely popular now

Probably better that way, Jackie wouldn't have been as "relatable" Ke Huy Quan for most people and would've tried to steal the show.

That's a good theory. I had figured he had a heart attack while attempting to walk over to her, but I like this theory as well.

HOLY crap what a shit movie. the cast is actually amazing with tremendous potential. Sadly, then director was a one time wonder last time and thought he could use Aaron Kwok again...

1) script was all over the place, no idea it had flash backs for some parts and then stops and then flashse back again. So unnecessary
2) pacing was sooooo shitty. It had to jam pack so many characters.. might as well do a linear time line and focus on certain key points.
3) Ending was ridiculous. THere was no climax, no tension and no ending. Rare movie to see it being over 2 hrs longg....

Surpringly, the last 5 mins of 1 monologue of a classic old school acting stole the show.

Gah that's disappointing to hear yet not surprised. As someone who has watched Canto films my entire life and enjoyed much of the glory in the 90's and earlier part of the 2000's heck even the 80's it saddens me so see so few films and also most of them are just utterly garbage. I'll still watch it though because it's so rare to get them. Is it all Canto or is there the 1 token Mandarin speaking person?

6793026 04-02-2023 07:55 PM

It's all full blown canto.
1) Aaron tap dancing or was it cha cha... it's his first time ever.
2) Tony spent a LOT of time learning to play the piano, he requested his hotel room to have a keyboard so he can play.

Such a great movie, the subtle tetris around the end, super great pace that kept you on the seats... the ONLY thing was his over acting... man, if you could tone down your stick up your butt look, the movie would have been great.

wife and i sat thru it and didn't want to turn it off. Made me felt like watching Argo.. LOL

mikemhg 04-06-2023 11:08 AM

We watched Tetris a few nights ago, great movie 8/10.

A lot of the story bits in Russia were pure fiction though :lol
