movie is called "the Grey man" in chinese
movie was filmedin thailand so it was refreshing to not be in china /HK

Some decent action and mindless brain watche... i think you can watch it on youtube (not sure if it's mando or canto), i watched the canto version.
there were some new actors acting which was refreshing as they were pretty decent. Typical gangster movie so dont' exepct much...

Dune 2 - 9/10.

Not much to say here, just see it. One of the best sci-fi films in the last few decades, from a pure cinematography standpoint.

We went to the ICON Imax Cinema in Bangkok to see it, fuck the theaters there are nuts.

Last Repair Shop - 10/10. Oscar winning short doc, it won an Oscar for a reason. You will not regret spending 40 mins of your life on this. This is the stuff that makes the world go round.

Just saw Dune 2 at IMAX Coquitlam.

What a movie. 9/10, did feel like the 2nd half was a bit rushed.

those who rated this 9/10... did you read the book before?
I did watch Dune 1, and there was a disconnect as I have not read the book.

Do you need to watch 1 before 2 is another question I have to ask.

lol I havent seen Part 2 yet, but I'm pretty sure Part 1 is pretty critical.

Dune Part 2 is not a sequel, it is a continuation of the first film.

Didn't read the book, nor have I watched the original Dune movie from the 80's.

My exposure is only to the newest Dune films, and Warhammer 40K (which is essentially a ripoff of Dune in many ways).

You 100% need to watch the 1st newest Dune film before watching Part 2.

School of Rock 8/10. Jack Black nailed the role. Pretty camp movie, don't know how it stayed off my radar for this long. Guess it's nice watching a movie from the past without rose-tinted glasses.
Spoiler!

what a crap movie. Andy Lau, please stop wasting your talents. Decent script, and there were a few bit of emotional acting which I didn't see from you from the last 5 movies. I guess I can't blame you as it's the director's improper abilities (he only had 3 movies under his belt, the 1st one was pretty legit); said that made you fail.

Mr bad guy, started to sell drugs on dark web, amazing team of IT who are invincible even when it comes ot hacking HK police. Yet one day, got hacked and failed and got all arrested... hk is great with triad / undercop but IT / computer / hacking story lines are still weak.

Action / gun blazing scene were all done by 錢嘉樂, we all know him as on of the top choreographers but the editing made a fail and didn't do you justice.

彭于晏 / eddie fong has always been man hunk from all the ladies and surely he was costly to hire to act but man.. all the girls / fans would be sad as he never took off his shirt. Your voice dubbing sucks. I do have ot say the mma / fighting choreography was new so that was refreshing

Gordon Lam (林家栋) will always be a better actor than Andy Lau. it's just like, someone who can act better yet not have the star power .... he was better than Andy Lau that's for sure.

All in all, Andy will be stopping production for movies as he prepares for his concerts (as he was sick 1/2 way due to throat issues) so he finally got scheduled to perform.

Bit late to the dance, Past Lives, story of Korean girl who immigrated to NA as a 12 yr old, marries a Jewish guy, and meets her first crush from her childhood days (while she lived in Korea) like 24 yrs later. A bit slow for me. 5/10

I'm stupid and posted in the wrong thread.

American Fiction - 8.5/10 really good film, enjoyed it a lot.
Zone of Interest - 8/10 A24? Right up my alley. Wasn't a fan of the ending, otherwise I would've rated higher.
Poor Things - 9/10 - Great film, kept us captivated from start to finish. Emma Stone deserved that Oscar for sure.

I watched the new Abyss 4K and it looked AMAZING. It had much of that late 80's cheese that we all loved, but was a bit more serious, to the Aliens side of things. Quite slow in places, with long moments where not much is happening, something you rarely see in movies like this anymore.

The Director's Cut completely changed the ending, and it makes a lot more sense now, at least the intention. Very optimistic 80's ending

There's also a new Aliens 4K and True Lies. Unfortunately I just watched True Lies like a month ago (still good!)

Finally caught dune 2 with the wife.
It was back to back. We watched Dune 1, then dune 2 so things were fresh.
It was much easier to understand when wifey did the research.

The cinematics and shades and color was really amazing. The colors were just amazing. It was a bit long for my taste though they did tie everything together.

Would have been a tougher time if we never watched dune 1 as a refresher though. My ass still hurts from sitting for so long.

WHY? please make these movies directly to streamling services.
Humans were literally not needed. To a point i'm happy to say there weren't no army / FBI / police trying to fire dinky missiles trying to hurt kong / gorizlla. we are literally the size of mosquito....

150 million budget 300m at box office.. really?
Nothing was relatable. Hilarious how they put in Rome / Egypt and Brazil ... isn't great to know gorzilla sometime likes to sleep at the Coliseum LOL.

Fala Chen (same girl who played mother of 10 rings sheng chi) also played the asian mother / tribe leader... but wait... she has zero dialogue... At leaset we can be proud of having an HK asian cast member.

stay away. There was a slight dad / son protective story line but other than that.. it was pretty meh. 1 liner comedy was stupid.. not needed for sure.
I did like how they try to put avenger power glove as a robotic fist and yup.. only took 30 seconds.. lol.

when you got nephews and niece and it's their b-day and there aren't any movies i can take them ... so this crappy movie it was.

dang the last wrestling movie i watched was the Wrestler.. whom Mickey Rourke won for best actor.. that was good.

This was based on a true story of the Von Erich family. Such a great cast, decent script, it was really well done given it was 60 - 70 -80s nostalgic set.
They casted Jeremy Allen White whom also buffed up for hte role. Maura Tierney
played the mother and they really did age her well throughout the story. I of course loved Lily James who I came into light playing Baby Driver. So to cast her in a 70s type goody good girl / wife.. was great.

Zac Efron was the person I wnated to talk about. Never cared for him, didn't watch his movie. Bay watch was a like woah.. he had to buff up for the role. THen BAM this came along and he REALLY buffed up. While I can't comment his acting, I'm so impressed he went all the way to train. I keep LOL when the hair style reminds me of He-Man.

He really can't act much - BUT that's also cause the role he was playing = wrestler, in the 70s, was all about being a man with no feelings...

Sean Durkin did a fantastic job with the music, the cast, how it was shot and how it stay true to the 70 / 90 era. Really enjoyed it. based on a true story so there were a few sentences talking about the true Von D family.

Heist [2015] - 3/10
The story had an absurd number of bad cliches in it and the script wasn't much better. I'm not sure how they managed to get Robert De Niro in this. I can only assume he lost a bet or owed someone a favour. I like Jeffrey Dean Martin but they didn't give him a lot to work with. Dave Bautista and Gina Carano were pretty painful in this but then again so was the script and music.

To their credit the plot wasn't predictable at least. But that's about all it had going for it.

Damn I thought you were talking about David Mamet's 2001 film Heist and I was ready to smash the fail button

Go watch that if you haven't! One of my all time favourite movies. Hell I think I might watch it later today

I have, based on your recommendation on here I believe. It's one of my favourites now too, definitely one of the best heist movies.

Speaking of David Mamet movies

The Spanish Prisoner [1997] - 7/10
Pretty solid suspense film, I like how they left certain elements out so it doesn't show it's age quite as much as it otherwise would. Overall I enjoyed the plot even if I think the final explanation was extremely weak, and I really disliked the repetition in the script because it felt like having Dora the Explorer going "do you see a ____?" every time.

King of Thieves [2018] - 9/10
Based on a true story, though probably only loosely, about the largest burglary in English legal history that happened in 2015. Committed by a crew of elderly men who were all experienced thieves but a bit out of touch with modern technology. Michael Caine, Ray Winston, and Michael Gambon are all in it and all fantastic.
