Glass is M. Night Shyamalan so it's decent.
Didn't think Deepwater was rated that high back in the day esp with Kristen Stewart leading... maybe it's time to rewatch. Only good underwater movie, classic of all time is 1989's The Abyss

Carry-On [2024] - 7/10
It was better than I expected, still a little hokey but the plot was fairly solid. Probably the most unrealistic part was LAX looking all nice and shiny
Man On Fire [2004] - 8/10
It was a little bit Hollywood'd but a great story with great acting and action. It's a remake of a movie that's based on a book, so I'd like to check both of those out sometime too.
Passenger 57 [1992] - 5/10
The plot was terrible and there was a lot of painfully bad acting but Wesley Snipes fighting people wasn't the worst way to spend an hour and a half.

Not really sure why there was such a huge hype on this.
Karla Sofía Gascón - well yeah, first transgender person to be huge in hollywood. I thought it was a very good story with tons of potential. I just didn't think it was needed for it to be a musical. Zoe Saldaña did well as well. I thought she looked like a monkey (her role) as she was a min. wage lawyer with nothing to show for. Selena Gomez, well let's just say I listened to her music way back in the day but now the fact she's 32, she's no longer the 18 yr old hot chick no more.
I went into the movie with no idea what the movie was about, I really enjoyed the story and what it was trying to do, just didn't quite like the musical.
Not going to ruin the story for anyone cause I found it WTF... and it kept me wanting to watch so that was good.
Not a movie i could really recommend as 90% of the movie was in spanish + musical which made it hard. Can't comment to say if it will win any oscars as i feel there are better ones in the mix.

wow, what a trip. I saw the preview months ago and thought.. oh, the facebook guy (the social network / now you see me) with harry potter dude (turns out.. nope, it was just a normal actor)... until I saw the credits. NO wonder he looked so familiar - Kieran Culkin, he was the brother (real brother who played Home Alone 1/2). I have not watched Succession so I didn't know Kieran C existed.
Plot - just two cousins traveling back to grandma's town in Poland. Some bromance shit. Fine, i'll watch it. Man it was SUCH a treat.
What made it really cool and all these little things creeping up.
1) Classical musical during entire movie. Now I'm not a musical expert, i barely played the recorder in school. It wasn't until the ending scene where the cousins arrives at Chopin Airport (Warsaw, Poland) that I realized the entire score was from the famous Chopin Polish composer. Very nice touch.
2) The dynamic of two cousins, one has normal life and the other seems like who only smokes pot and a bum. Yet the personalities are so vastly different. The dynamic, the way how it touches, agitates, and even pushes each other's boundaries was so nice to follow along during the entire movie.
3) Jesse Eisenberg is not a great C class actor by any means but he does have his ways with words and acting on long monologues drawing you in. It's so weird yet so captivating despite his emotionless acting on his face. Now you won't find that in Now Yyou See me 1,2 and 3 (releasing this year), but I did remember him in The Social Network.
What was the true kicker... the movie was all Jesse Eisenberg. He wrote, direct, and starred in the movie.
Don't worry, there were no onions being cut but somehow there were some ah-ha moments on how family / bromance aspect that makes your heart sad yet happy at the same time.
Wife and I just didn't want to stop watching - jam packed script, casual and refreshing on how relatives are so weird with a love hate relationship at time.
Very low straight to DVD movie which I thought was a great gem. Two acting styles, two opposite personalities, the love hate relationship - man.... there were two specific lines that resonated.
a) "Just stop for a moment and be real" scene when he yells at the tour guide on not being real during a tour - and at the end the guy just said 'you're the first guy who actually gave real feedback'
b) "you don't know how great of charisma you've got walking into a room but once you enter, you shit all over it."
PS - apparently Jesse also wrote When You Finish Saving the World - (2 yrs ago) whom he wrote and directed so that's good to see him progressing.

Hardly a "straight to dvd" hidden gem.
For someone who watches so many movies and is obviously a fan of cinema, it's surprising to see how out of the loop you are on some basic things but knowledgable in other much more obscure things lol

LOL - fair enough. ^ despite it was nominated, it really did not get distributed in the theatres well. It was in a butt F no where theatre 200km away and one theatre in downtown GTA.
cast wasn't the greatest and I just didn't generate much advertising. It went straight to streamline.

been waiting on this for SUCH a long time. To see Hugh Grant coming back from Notting Hill to then aged well to then play this. It's really rare to see a movie with religion, church, Mormons etc. I was so looking forward to this and it did not disappoint.
It touches a bit on religion so the dialogue, explanations, and the way the pave the dynamic between the two was really witty. By the way, I watched the trailer because of the hype on this and I didn't feel it ruined the movie. The title does mean a person believing in or practicing religious heresy so it stand true by its title.
Definitely a horror thriller, but it doesn't go into Texas chainsaw massacre type scenes. I really appreciated the setup and then the deciphering on how the ending plays out.
This is not a jason friday 14, freddy cougar type murder, but a banter of religion and proving a point - don't want to really ruin the movie but I thought it was great ride.
PS - movie was filmed in Vancouver / squamish - Literally the 1st second of the movie, I said that's The Chief at Squamish.. and I was spot on 100%. Everything was filmed on set at Pitt Meadows over 7 weeks.
PPS - film was filmed in chorological order - didn't really mean much but guess it's diff if you care for that sort of thing.

About time to watch a HK movie cop legit movie. Directed by Donnie + him being the lead. Start by telling you the plot - it's typical HK movie. It is based loosely on a true story. Cop turn lawyer / gov't prosecutor trying to bring justice on a case - teen 'lends' his address to someone for $200 CDN but caught due to shipment of drugs.
What's interesting:
- he partnered with the same producer who did Yip Man - and the producer's son was the one who did the script.
- there were 4-5 old 60+ people who played minor roles but were just fabulous.
-Spent 200k on making a 3 cart HK train replica, put it on motion platform and film the last action scene.
- Donnie wasn't going to take the movie esp with the recent success of law / court movie from last year in HK (by Dayo Wong - A Guilty Conscience); so when they changed up from cop to prosecutor change, he took on the role.
-rumors was that Donnie was getting old and hired his japanese bff to do stunts for him... (duhhhh, i don't know why that's an issue.. even Jacky Chan had doubles..)
- The antagonist - Chi Lam - is always the good looking pilot, the good looking cop, this time he plays a bad legal executive.. he did really well.
- There was a scene that doesn't freaking make sense - why would some lawyer wanted to start a fight... wth... oh well, what do I know, Donnie is a director.
- As per above, Donnie did push the envelope which was from behind the scene - "I want the audience to have a wtf moment" "People are watching a movie, why would you want to watch boring real court scene, let's throw in some banter to create wtf reactions"
It went well cause my wife and I had a few wth....
-He is no longer just a action director, from the behind the scene interviews - he's learning how to control musical scores, keeping the tension high, he's demanding no boring cut scenes.
- The stunt man fell on a car ... pauses... and rolls off car stylishly, did 86 takes. Donnie demanded stylish... and stuntman says.. he agrees and respects him because he's pieceing action with directing.
b) Donnie learns to pause to create tension (eg// guy who fell on top of a car - pauses... for a solid 1 sec) and rolls off a car. "Give an audience to take a breathe with a wtf moment and then continue" We can't do 90s mentality bam bam bam bam action no more, let's push the envelope"
-He's yelling at other supportive directors... I blocked off the streets of HK so you can film the streets, wth are you doing close up shots, if I wanted that I could just film it inside a a factory. You can constantly see him pushing the industry.
-"It's ok to waste film & money if it's worth it. What's shitty if it's spent on stuff that'll get cut away".
- Donnie casted a new kid / singer and also gave him a specific scene / fighting sequence (originally was for Donnie) so it's great to bring in a spark and past on a baton.
- Donnie casted his dad to play his own dad in the movie.
Shut off your brain, watch a good action movie... call it a day. Support local HK movie. I respect him much more being a director now.

I just remembered the 1st one, released with a weird premise. Food lowers down each floor and if you eat beyond your means or steals, you get into some rivals and fights etc. All in all, the 1st one did well.
THis one just tanked. Very fast paced movie which I guess they wanted to spend more time but man, when you do that and when people don't understand what happened, it sucks.
ANOTHER draw back is that you skip out on character development.
Wouldn't recommend this esp when it's in spanish. Don't even try the DUB version.
*No this was not my movie of choice but being stuck in a hotel for work, i had limited options what was stored in my cpu.

The Room Next Door.
Going to start with something super dark. Chinese New Year is not really a good time to watch such a dark / death related movie. 2 BFF (with a huge gap) coming together and just dealing with one friend's cancer.
It's very well acted with solid calibre of actresses. Man, Tilda Swinton transformed in Dr. Strange with her hair cut and I just can't see her any other way. (However, she also plays the role of her own daughter iwth long hair and it was just so so weird (in a way i'm glad she did, just really really weird as I thought it was all CGI. )). Seeing Tilda on the screen being super skinny was just so close to heart to being a cancer patient.
It's a tough topic because it's about Medical assistance in dying (MAID). Not too much to say but to ensure you're in a heart of such movie.
Really nothing to rave about because there ain't a huge surprise, or crazy score. There just wasn't enough emotional pull, script, ending, crazy acting to like the movie.
The only mention I could say are the colors. Director Pedro Almodóvar's did use a great deal of time to make colors pop (as you see in the poster).
Pedro Almodóvar's - he is famous for using (Penélope Cruz / Antonio Banderas) in Volver &The Skin I Live In.

When you got niece and nephew, you gotta have a few good movies under your belt. This one did well.
Great script, decent references (letyou know more later) and I had a blast - i don't give a crap about the kids LOL.
I clued in when Chris Hemsworth playing Prime, did not recognize Brian Tyree Henry. Who can forget the voice of Scarlett Johansson. Who I wanted to mention is Keegan-Michael Key - (don't google yet), but at the 1/4 point when they introduced his character, he said A-A-RON, then I clued in. He's the guy from Key & Peele - A-A-Ron skid here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRps...BQZWVsZQ%3D%3D
Great script / message / story to keep the kids in line with a decent ending. Action was decent, I thought it was just so over the top colorful at times.
Truly proud of a gem like this. I feel like it was good comic movie which the last one I thoguht was good was Spiderverse.

Finally, for the finale - Anora
When I saw the movie poster, i thought i was a bollywood movie so i skipped it. Then, it's classified as American comedy-drama. What I didn't know was that it's R rated. FIRST 2 minutes of the movie were all tits and ass at a peeler's bar cause what the summary should have been was "a young sex worker from Brooklyn whose life takes an unexpected turn". Long story short. Instead of advertising as great film which i don't think it was, should be a movie about romeo and juliet with a reality ending.
I do get where the film is going. I did like the start on how a girl falls for a wealthy Russian kid cause of daddy's money. This part was good, cause it's about a build up of romance and flow of movie.
Then the movie takes a turn.... (no spoilers) - reality sits in within 2 weeks because mommy and daddy is mad. The build up was good (home invasion scene which btw Anora was filmed over 37 days, with the 25-minute home invasion scene taking 10 days) THEN the 2/3 of the movie later, spends an entire hour which was TOTALLY not needed. The tension, the character development, flow of movie on the 2/3 was totally a bore. Should have just cut it all out or remove 20 mins of the movie. I thought it was just for the sake of wasting film.
Wish I could have enjoyed hte movie. I don't mind the exotic dancing part, the falling for a druggy part, it was just the flow that drained the audience.
Did not like the ending as well as it wasn't needed to end this way. No idea why the ending took a turn. Understand it wants to tie decent an ending but it was no needed for a 2.5hr movie.

Definitely felt they could have cut 20 mins from the movie, at least 10 mins each from the first 2 acts.
But it seems I liked the ending much more than you did.

The middle dragged on too long, the 3rd act was by far really weird cause it stemmed from act 2 which I kept on thinking... why are you there.. was it really needed.... and bam.. oh, it was the 3rd but crappy act.
I kept thinking... how dumb are you... i guess we in the asian culture see this a lot. You really think your bf who's 23 who drives a Brabus 850, 2 lambo to school is really going to true love. You think you'll stand up to his dad when he flies for China to visit his son. That part I faceplam a lot. Come on girl.. you're just a side chick / options
stupid poster thinking it was a bollywood movie I still LOLed

Kinda Pregnant - 1000% chick flick, and it's also Amy w/ Jillian Leigh Bell, so it's pretty typical dumb ass movie thatyou can't expect much.
The low budget movie casted 2 newbies whom I didn't really know, but Brianne Howey
totally out acted Amy (which isn't that hard). Then there was Will Forte whom i have no idea who he is but he's 54 playing Amy's love interest so that was a bit weird.
I guess this was Netflix and the fact it doesn't have to be PG13, they did push the envelope for being a bad ass teacher and just dropping F bomb everywhere.
Amy's big break (in movies was definitely Trainwreck and then came I Feel Pretty and now Kinda Pregnant, it's the same formula to say the least....
There are few fun scenes; eg// baby knife, sit on my face scene and then there was the turkey scene was just cringeee all the way.
What can you say. Don't expect much.

I agree about Anora, I enjoyed the beginning of the film, great idea, great pretense, but then it got stupid.
I couldn't understand why this street smart hooker would think that this Russian child oligarch would actually marry her, it's like her character suddenly became completely unaware of the world she's working within partway through, as if the script was written by an entirely different person at some point.

I thought it would be a good movie. Den of Thieves 2: Pantera
I know it's the type that's going to be straight to DVD but hey.. it must still have some gun fights.
O'Shea Jackson Jr. = ice cube's son which was pretty cool.
First of all, the initial scene was legit.. which was good. I liked the start. then it went downhill until the heist and it was not really jam packed with action.
The entire middle of the film was really empty. Chemistry was lacking between everyone. I am just SUPER thankful they didn't have any useless love interest.
I'm a bit said Gerald is making a third.

| All this blabbering and doesn't tell us the name of the movie |

^ errrr ain't it on the movie poster? The Prosecutor.
Flight Risk
Fully how company was going to rent out theatre to show this movie. Trailer totally sucked and it's true; we pulled out from bringing client to a shit movie. Esp when it was posted release twice.
It wasn't the greatest. Honestly, it was decent. Wife and I thought it wasn't that bad. Esp. when the tension at the end did really pull the story all together.
Yes it was directed by Mel Gibson with a 25 million budget; and then it grossed 33. Dang is right. Given the movie didn't have to do anything crazy (everything was on a set filled with green screen and zero green screen needed. LOL).
Dialogue did suck, but at least the script towards the end was faster than slow. With it being 91 mins, it was good enough.

6793026...Why man...why? Why do you subject yourself through this visual diarrhea, you might as well cancel your streaming services and just watch Tubi films for free
When you put your usual movie on, does your wife run out the room for a few hours?

I know it's the type that's going to be straight to DVD but hey.. it must still have some gun fights.
O'Shea Jackson Jr. = ice cube's son which was pretty cool.
First of all, the initial scene was legit.. which was good. I liked the start. then it went downhill until the heist and it was not really jam packed with action.
The entire middle of the film was really empty. Chemistry was lacking between everyone. I am just SUPER thankful they didn't have any useless love interest.
I'm a bit said Gerald is making a third. | Agreed with your review 100%.
The first one was pretty good. That's the only reason I ended up watching the second one...
