It depends really on how in touch you are with the Chinese heritage, as well as the philosophy behind Chinese martial arts.
Even then, it's worth a watch just for the kick ass fighting scenes.
It's in Mandarin/Cantonese, just FYI, but you can download built in English subs.

Ip Man didn't flee china from the invading Japanese, he was a KMT member, who had to flee because of the communists. Had he stayed, he would have been tortured and murdered. But the movie takes the typical communist revisionist history, and says that he stayed out of china while the People valiantly fought off the japs. Instead of what really happened. Quote:

They are ruining his true legacy, of someone who had no choice BUT to leave his beloved country, because the people who were conquering it after his party was weakened by the war were going around and imprisoning everyone who was not on their side. I think you're reading into the movie too much Skinny.. it may not have been factual, but it was still entertaining.
It's not like people bash Da Vinci code for being completely and utterly incorrect.. it's just fiction.
Anyways, last movie I saw was Ip Man 2: 7.5/10 (Ip Man 1 was better)
