Ahh, I knew Wild Robot would involve onions...

Transformers One was surprisingly good too. Watched it yesterday with my 16-yr old (who grew up watching the Transformers Prime cartoons).

Fall Guy - solid B, which is all I expected. Great stunts and action, predictable story and campy fun for everyone. My wife appreciated the romance but she's a Hallmark movie gal so take that as you will.

Transformers Prime is a solid TV show, I binged it when it was on Netflix a couple of years ago.

Brian Tyler who composed Transformers Prime also did the score for Transformers One.

Brian snuck in an Easter egg where he used one of the sound tracks from Prime onto One

https://youtu.be/-ElaMAMEgy8?si=i1gluICbc79VRQsc

This particular track

Moving down the 2023 Oscar Nominees list.

This movie was pretty funny. Basically a distinguished Black author writes non-racial high-brow novels which don't get much fanfare. So hard up on cash he writes a sterotypical autobiography from the POV of thug escaped convict. Novel is a hit and he has to pretend to be said thug.

Beetlejuice 2 was "fine". You compare it to the original to see just how different movies are now, even if a lot of the same people are involved. Tim Burton's name is attached to it, but I don't know how involved he was.

Michael Keaton is in his 70's now and really doesn't do a good Beetlejuice anymore. Very low energy, no physical acting, and his voice is very weak and tired sounding. They waited too long I guess

4/10

In Broad Day Light 9/10

True story but they made a movie out of it.
Lost a LOT of money but due to the great theme / story / social justice, Louis Koo financed the movie.
The movie earned 16 nominations at the 42nd Hong Kong Film Awards ain't a joke.
SO many old aged actors each despite 10 - 15 mins screen time, did an amazing job.

What's it about?

Many years ago people caught nurse washing 5-10 seniors all lined up at the patio / rooftop and she used a garden hose to shower them. That was the huge story - how old aged home are now privatized (HK gov't all outsourced); yet with so many infractions, yet none of them are caught or closed down.

The other side of the coin - do you know how tough it is to get into a care home?
How many of them are short staffed?
These "care homes" houses low income, mentally weak / unstable, lonely individuals...

Very well filmed, some onions chopping towards the end and how society, the law, the injustice sometimes are good yet at most times are bad.

Very worthy of a film in HK that's ain't about cops, love, Andy Lau, or some cocaine genre movie.

Glass Onion - A Knives Out Mystery - 9/10

I loved this. A great mix of mystery and plot twists along with great comedy. After going through a bunch of Agatha Christie stuff recently it's sort of like a slightly parody take on her style. I haven't seen the first one yet so now it's high up on my to-watch list.

HOLY FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
What a crazy movie - do NOT watch the trailer... just KNOW it's a thriller, horror with a bloody ending. I followed the instructions and went and man what a beautiful indie film.
************* if you think this is a normal movie, THINK again, when you reach the 2 hr mark the movie turns into a WTF moment.

Did the director need to go to that end of the spectrummmm NOT at all but he did.

Will give my normal review until I share the wow factor (no spoilers)
1) Did NOT LIKE demi mooreeeee cause she's 61; who wnats to watch herrrr.. but mannn she did such a great job!!!!
2) the director is Coralie Fargeat; writer, director and producer and co-editor. FREAKING fantastic... a) love the fast pacing, b) love the music c) EXCELLENT movie angles, colors.... and the beautiful way of shooting this movie... well worth the money going into the theatre.
3) Margaret Qualley is a new actress whom I have not seen so I don't got no feedback as she played the pretty girl and that's really all you need to know.

The script is well rounded, and I cna't say I didn't get ending; it just keeps coming. The movie is 2hrs and 22 minutes and it doesn't seem to drag on too much cuase you're just waiting for the punch.

FYI
1) Prosthetics and makeup effects ----- were all done traditional. No CGI. The only part that was CGI was the eyes.
2) the ending, for those who actually watches this... was filmed in one take... totally unexpected. (don't want to spoil it)

I can only put this as a genre of thriller with a horror? ending.

Definitely a movie to remember.... finest hour by Demi Moore.
PLEASE PLEASE be careful bringing a sign. other that's not into horrific endings.

Margaret Qualley was the foot chick hitchhiker in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and also the second "daughter" in Poor Things which you saw.

^ Did not remember much from both movies LOL esp. Poor Things...

AfrAId

This movie had SUCH great premise; but why did it suck sooo bad.
Director (Chris Weitz), writer, also produced this movie all together and was even the writer for Rogue One, Star Wars, Twilight, About a Boy (Huge Grant), American pie (directed a bit).... such great potential and wnated to see how this AI oculd have been a great take on a movie...

Ending was NOT good at all - which i found really weird since the director / writer and / producer was the same guy.

I thought John Cho woudl have been a decent cast esp with his recent role (2018) in Searching which I really enjoyed.

Onto the next movie I guess.

Man, I don't know what to say anymore, these new films just don't hit the same. They were trying to go the Silence of the Lambs route, but these writers and directors can't seem to make a good psychological serial killer film in the ways had them in the 80s and 90s. So while it was good for a modern film, it can't hold a candle to the older flicks.
I KNEEWWWW IT.... sorry, i knew you recommneded this so I watched it.
Did NOT know it was from Van until I saw the Richmond # 7 road with the back drop of the mountain totally made me do a double take.

Ssoooo I have to say I DID NOT KNOW THAT WAS NICOLAS CAGE!!!!
Wasn't until the credits were rolling... wtf
Totally unexpected.

It started well with a good premise; even though Maika Monroe played a really weird role (she looked as if she was stoned the whole time).

I did like the end when it started unfolding - was it the best... not really. I couldn't conenct with this whole satan thing. The fact there were a few no explanation / loop holes made it really diffcult for me to connect.

Did enjoy it setting the stage for 1994 (acting / color / setting) but sadly it didn't help with the story.

fun fact - Van filmed, 10 million budget, ended up with 103 M in box office and took just 40 days to film.

I don'tknow much of Bob Marley so I can't really comment. I did have a hard time understanding even with subtitles on. Maybe that's me?
I did like the movie, just didn't have enough depth. Heck, at least I know a bit more about what happened and how he died.
Tough balancing act - did it need to go all the way back to childhood and be boring.. no; which they didn't. They ONLY focused on 20s till he died so he only had 16 years to play with in a movie. Props to that.
What were the ups and down? Nothing much aside from just the political unease ... That itself was very hard to create tension within the movie for me.

It's definitely not memorable of a movie; and maybe because Bob Marley was so iconic, I just didn't conenct. Lastly... when he was in his late 30s. he LOOKED super aged - maybe from all the weed.... Kingsley Ben-Adir did not age in the movie; the only thing different was just his hair got longer at the very last 10 min of the movie so that a miss.

Joker 2

what a jokeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
190M budget, just making 200M. TMovie was so bad they pulled it from NY theatres just after 8-ish weeks.

Totally crappy script. Joaquin Phoenix did do a good job, he lost so much weight on this, and to see him being skinny was just gross.
Lady Gaga - she was GREAT in A Star is Born, no singing in House of Gucci but pulled it off with her acting.
IN Joker... what a waste... Did the director not remember she's a singer.. what a waste of talent.

This is where the director didn't have a BFF to call him out "why would any fans want to see a musical"....

Despite a few plot holes a) how does lady gaga have so much connections to see Joker at some of the critical moments b) attempt escape etc

All in all, even with some amazing filming, opening, and acting I can't even recommend anyone to see this. I went in with zero expectiations and still came out super disappointed.

The ending was totally a 180 and what a joke. so pissed.

The killer - not hte 2023 movie but 2024
Guess it's Nathalie Emmanuel's first time doing a movie leading it the whole way. Let's not even talk about hte script but I can't seem to understand Sam Worthington (terminator + Avatar); his accent was just so thick.

Director - JOHN WOO. famous for Broken Aarow, Face Off, Mission impossible 2. Did you know the wrote the movie The Killer 1989.

it's just NOT the same. There was no chemistry, no passion, no fierce combate scene...

Heck, they compared the scenes back to back and it ain't even good.

I found it so sad that a director just couldn't even recapture the same tension, direction or the tension... it's your freaking script and you're the director!

Filmed in france which was cute - then it added to the crazy languages within the movie.
Lastly, yes, there is the typical fire, slow mo, pigeons everywhere in a church. I do miss the guy; might have to close the chapter cause I did loved ALL this previous work.

Skip this one... *then again, I'm seeing Venom which is going to be just as bad.

HK did their own with their fan boy band (Mirror); each has their own talents.
I can get by with lock picking, rope / rappelling, costumes, fighting but come on....being able to talk to pets, hypo, six sense??? wtfff./

Guess someone just wanted to hire their young stars and do a movie.

Total cash grab but yet a totally crappy movie.

Not a movie.... Tv series

Anyone watch The Bear season 3 lately?

My god, what a bunch of absolute garbage.
Season 1 was great, season 2 was good. But season 3, they butchered the shit out of it. Entire episodes of a dude staring into food plates or abyss, an episode about having a baby, haf ti skip 1/4 of every episode hoping its going to get better, nope. Its like their went from TV, to 1.2F bokeh lenses to make "tv art" rather than a show.

Much like a lot of fine dining establishments, The Bear Season 3 is an exercise in self indulgence and hubris. Don't get me started on how it's categorized as a comedy for the Emmys (and swept that category) either

It's been reported that the creator of the Bear had envisioned a 3 season story however the studios wanted an additional season and so this is very much a "filler" season in terms of story (hopefully). And based on the quality and feedback from critics it shows.

I saw this with my wife last night. Body horrors are my least favorite kind of horrors, but I'm laughing after the gross-outs. I knew it was gonna get really crazy after the lump in the butt scene. The last act was awesome and totally off the rails.
