Getting teeth whitened And I'm talking about getting it done at the dentist...who has had this done? Average quote I'm getting is $300 and $400 with moulds to wear at night for a week. This about right? |
seriously, my friend is a dental hygenist and she uses crest white strips..ive used them once a year the last 3 years and they work really well, you can see obvious whitenening after like 3 days if you do it continuously of course. however, it DOES make your teeth/gums a bit sensitive but its fine after you finish. |
i'm a dental hygienist and crest whitestrips does work but it's very patient selective...it all depends on what kind of results you're looking for. Crest whitestrips is a one size fits all mould and if you have crowded or rotated teeth the whitestrips can not give you an even result. However I do always recommend patients to try Crest whitestrips first before trying something stronger like the take home kits you can purchase at the dentist with custom molds and a stronger whitening material or the Zoom whitening. Whichever whitening product you end up choosing you should know that temporary sensitivity is a common side effect and I always recommend patients to use Sensodyne 2 weeks prior to treatment and continuing to use it for the duration of the treatment. Hope that helps |
Hey Revsceners! I decided to do a search about this topic, rather than to create a new one, so please don't mind my 2 year bump :) I'm thinking about getting my teeth whitened. I have yellow teeth -nothing wrong with plaque or anything, since I brush 2 times and floss daily. Livingsocial has their deal today http://livingsocial.com/deals/34452-...1_57_3956email for $99 bucks to get your teeth whitened. Is this whitening a long term effect, provided that I continue to brush my teeth and floss daily? |
maybe a month or two as someone who works in the field i would advise against these dental spa..most of these workers administering these whitening products do not even have any credentials and just my personal opinion to not bother with tooth whitening unless you are truly concerned about the aesthetics of your teeth. |
^^ agreed. I did what the OP asked. Parents wanted to see if there would be any improvement, spent the $350 on 2 custom moulds (1 upper, 1 lower) and the solution. My teeth got acouple of shades whiter but nothing substantial at all. Lasted about 3-4 months and started to fade and go back to normal. Unless your really self-conscious about how your teeth look, it's a complete waste of money. Pop/coffee/smoking stain your teeth, and it's life. If you don't do any of these 3, do the cheapo white strips and keep brushing regularly. |
Aside from these take home kits, aren't there other solutions where the dentist does the work? If I remember right, there is in-office bleaching where you just visit them once. |
^^ Yup. I think they laser off the top coat, just like stripping off clear coat. Then apply the solution to seal the teeth again. I think this was more expensive then the moulds just cause the dentist does all the work. |
