Dude thats normal

Think of it this way, its not a spring loaded slider

It has to lock into place. Now if there wasnt that 1mm gap so the two pieces could lock in, your slider would be fucked within a month because the friction would be too great and cause too much stress on the rails.

That 1mm gap is needed, due to the fact that there's no spring to hold it in place, therefore it needs to LOCK into place.
If there is no gap, the two halves wouldnt be able to interlock, rendering the slider useless.

Its like sliding a key into a keyhole. Its JUST big enough for it to slide in and unlock/lock the door.

If it was any smaller, the key wouldnt fit

can I have some reviews on the K790 pretty please :) I'm thinking about trying and getting that for free (or really cheap)if I update my phone plan and that seems to be one of the few that are cheap. I don't want to spend a lot of money. It will just basically be used for texting, camera/video, and calls. I like the fact it has blue tooth because I want a wireless handsfree set and speakerphone.

Good solid phone.
I cant think of anything bad really other than the crappy video recording resolution, and the small screen.

Other than that its a great phone for the price :)

Be wary of the joystick though, I've read of alot of ppl with failing joysticks, and they can no longer navigate through their menus.

if the joystick fails I can just get them to replace it for free though, right?

Shouldn't be a problem. As long as there's no sign of user abuse and you're still under warranty

sorry, another newb question. Would it automatically come with a warranty if I get it through rogers retention??
Right now I have a Samsung p207 which I really like, but I think if the price is right it's time to try and get a new phone if I'm updating my phone plan

HAY GUYS

aight you guys remember me from the whole 705sh deal or no deal i made last week.

turns out ive got some money to buy me some pretty decent phones, and ive done a heck of a lot of research, but i havent researched the intangibles of the phones ie. user friendliness, phone processing power, Opposite sex attraction factor, phone stealability factor etc...

the phone im primarily looking at right now are:

1) SE K810... researching since new years
2) Nokia 6500 Slide Black... same as above
3) Sharp 904... researching since monday LOL
4) Sharp 903... too common, last place.

Uses:
1) mainly messaging (but i dont need t9), since i dont call someone until night time or weekend...
2) camera... for when that girl decides to splurge on a birthday cake with a dildo on it...
3) video cam... you never know what you catch with a video cam...
3) games... for when i dont bring my laptop/DS to school

actually, i think ill use the camera more hahaha...

No use:
1) mp3 player... cause i invested in a nice video ipod and damn it all if i dont use it.

now ive gone in depth in all the features of each phones and i know that 904 has better camera than all of the others, but is bulkier than my current phone. hence the intangibles.

I plan on shelling out the big bucks for the 904 simply because its quite unique (well, not with the new docomo's thats about to litter Van City streets in 1 month's time), and no one in my buddies has an import phone (except for that guy with the 705sh), but is it really worth it? or should i just get a K810 for $200 less and a whole slew of lack-of-originality factor?

and uh.. no docomo's for me haha... too many things to do just to regain a signal i hear hahaha

thanks, guys.

*cough* buy my 904 and PSS-SIM *cough*

nah.. i just got a black 904 off of ebay... hopefully its not a scam, the price seems low... $320 from ontario...

thanks for the reply anyway, monsieur k-board...

Need Advice: u600, u700, 6500slider etc.

Hi, basically I've chucked my k800 (parking lot, various tables, benches etc.) around one too many times and well it's dead

Here's the basic criteria:

1) good looking
2) good camera 3.0 mp camera or better (with auto focus)
3) non-bar
4) pocket friendly

As for price, it would be appreciated if you could split the suggestions between under 450 and above 450.

As the title suggests I've been looking at the following:
Samsung:
u600 (battery life is lacking?)
u700 (touch keys for the number pad how's that for texting? Also I've heard of some peeling issues and/or the scroll button not working on fairly new units?)
g600 (weak battery and iffy camera?)
g800 (weak battery has an odd look (disproportional?) when slide open?)

Nokia
6500 slider (costs a bit more than the rest in it's class, and no lens cover?)
N95 (but kinda big...)

SE:
w910 (no auto focus and something about no back button?)

LG:
KE970 titanium (good looking, but camera is uh...not quite there?)
KU990 viewty black (again a bit big and needing to carry around a second battery?)

I think that covers everything that I can think of that's out
Also wondering if you think it makes sense to wait until April for the new phones to come out?
kinda had my eye on the SE W980 and W760 as well as the Samsung U900 Soul

Thanks in advanced for your help

p.s. Feel free to give input/make suggestions on cells that are not on the list

Samsung battery life = über gay. May as well buy a brick at Home Depot.

N95 is lame and played out, not to mention, old. Huge @$$ POS IMO.

6500 is a nice phone and versatile in any occasion.

I think their phones are ugly but I'll let the SE fanboys chime in on this one.

LG = Short term gimmicks. Cool for a day then lame the next. Gets played out fast and prone to acting up short/long term. May as well buy a fake iPhone from China.

My 4 cents. Thank you. You're welcome! :)

TurboDrift 03-27-2008 02:28 AM

thx for your input

didn't think i'd get a reply so quick and so late :)

!Yaminashi 03-27-2008 10:03 AM

6500 slide for sure

Solid and reliable

604lex 03-28-2008 01:42 PM

- how much do you want to spend?
$3bills - $5bills
- what do you want to use it for?
everyday use, something slim.
- what form factor do you like?
Flip first, then slide.
- is there a certain brand you like?
LG softbank samsung.

I got prada right now, but i hate touch now.. :(
looks sick but i wanna sell it, and get 707sc. plus im korean
so if theres korean language support, it attracts me more.

+Kardboard+ 03-28-2008 10:45 PM

http://mb.softbank.jp/mb/en/product/...sc2/index.html

707SCII is much hotter, IMHO. :)

TurboDrift 03-29-2008 12:17 AM

about the 6500 slider I've been looking around and it seems like there's some kind of sliding issue with that phone

something about it sheering off the tops of the keys when you open and close the phone

bcrdukes 03-29-2008 01:28 AM

I...cannot see that happening.

iChiBahN 03-29-2008 02:29 AM

^ lol i think he just means the keypad scratch problem. LOLz "shear off", lolz

Rhetorical 03-29-2008 09:16 AM

of the ones you listed, i'd go with the 6500 slide for sure. The samsungs will have crappy battery life and a crappy camera. don't let the 3mp rating fool you.

GT-[R] 03-29-2008 10:54 AM

i dont like the samsungs... something about the ear piece that sounds distorted to me, ive owned alot of samsungs and that includes the u600, but its just me

6500 slide is a very solid device, looks good too. Id recommend that one, im looking for one myself. Also the w910 if u want a good mp3 player, and i guess third would be the shine. Its built well, but its an LG and somewhat glitchy. The camera is decent tho, not as bad as you think... at least it has autofocus

604lex 03-29-2008 12:43 PM

707scii?

I just think it looks better lol...I think it's more or less the same other than the addition of HSDPA, which yeah, is quite useless for us here. You'll get better reception if you use it overseas though (i.e. 3G for voice, not data).

604lex 04-08-2008 01:48 AM

U900 Soul is nice. check it out guys.
5mp, slick slide. stylish.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_u900_soul-2243.php

I wonder why samsung never make wi-fi phones.. I think its time but never comes..
Just another upgraded version of D600 -> D900 -> U600 -> U700..

samsug is actually comin out with the g810 which has wifi, seems like its more of a n95 competitor, except that it is 1.5 yrs too late lol

as for the soul, something that i learned from the u600 is, samsung thin phones = shitty and fragile sliding mechanism

but i do like the u900 themes tho, looks very nice
