Oh were you part of that big convoy of vancouverites that went down last month?

a gentlemen came into our shop to throw on slicks and we wound up talking about thunderhill.

Apparently all fender eliminators are illegal because they do not meet DOT standards. Here's a pic showing the back of my bike

http://i46.tinypic.com/2qvle.jpg

Officer said I had improper rear signal lights, missing license plate lamp, missing rear fender and reflector, and my license plate is mounted improperly (its too tucked in).

I got two tickets, one for improper display of plate $230 and one for defective vehicle $109. I also got a notice and order to bring my bike back to stock and have it inspected within 30 days.

I was pretty much really unlucky to get caught. I wasn't speeding or doing anything stupid. I saw a cop on a bike going the opposite direction, we looked at each other and i saw him ride by but i guess he made a u turn somewhere and caught up to me at a stop light and told me to pull over. If it was a cop in a cop car i probably would not have gotten busted. Since this guy was riding too he was probably out looking for riders will illegal mods or what not. I tried to get him to let me off with a warning but he said he was already being lenient with me because technically the rear mods i had were sufficient enough that he could have taken my bike off the road right then and there and gotten it towed and the fine would have been much more.

yeah that was me. i was standing by the side of the road for a while, cop took his sweet time to write me the tickets.

Recon604 09-20-2012 09:44 PM

i love your r6 =/ my dream bike

daytona675 09-20-2012 09:47 PM

That's the 1 motorcycle cop you don't want to get pulled over by in burnaby. He will nail you on everything. My friend got busted by him as well. He had to get an inspection.

There's another dick motocop in van. Has a hard on for license plate infractions.

604trueno 09-21-2012 01:17 AM

That's willingdon and Curtis isn't it? Dammmnnn its really close to my work at willingdon and hastings. I thought I was safe from bike cops in burnaby!

Here's my R6 with my Fender Eliminator... I will not be a happy camper if I get a ticket...

sho_bc 09-21-2012 08:00 PM

That kit has removed the licence plate light (it looks like?) and reflectors. Don't be surprised if you do get a ticket.

The License plate light is there... its hard to see in the pic but I got no reflectors... :(

yelnats8 09-21-2012 08:10 PM

Ya if you get an anal cop like I did, you'll still get ticketed cause you're missing the reflectors. Btw what kind of fender eliminator do you have?

Glaedr 09-21-2012 08:22 PM

Got my Fender eliminator off Ebay. That black rectangle above the "R6" is the license plate light, contains 3 LED's.

and my Frame sliders, in case you were curious, I got from T-Rex racing, decent for the price compared to some of the other brands out there.

On my violation ticket it says i have an offense for improper display of plate which is section 3.02 of the mva and the fine is $230. But according to the VIOLATION TICKET ADMINISTRATION AND FINES REGULATION (source: Violation Ticket Administration and Fines Regulation) the fine amount should be $196. Unless cops have the discretion to write any amount they want? Does anyone know if cops have to go by the amount specified on the above website?

http://i47.tinypic.com/2uzcpj5.jpg

Also section 3.02 of the mva reads (source: Motor Vehicle Act Regulations)

http://i49.tinypic.com/vatd2.jpg

If you look at the picture of my license plate it meets the requirement of section 3.02. It's securely fastened in a horizontal position.

So with this info do you guys believe I have a valid argument to dispute my charges?

604trueno 09-22-2012 03:38 AM

Yup, I've heard of people getting tickets tossed on the grounds that the wrong infraction was cited

gdoh 09-22-2012 07:25 AM

i would dispute, GL

dink 09-22-2012 10:17 AM

Here's mine...
I have an integrated taillight with turn signals. I know it was illegal when i purchased it because the turn signals needed to be further apart so I purchased additional turn signals. I replaced the reflector with aftermarket turn signals. I might get dinged for that. I got a warning because I did not have a plate light, so I'm planning to get a led strip and wire it up.
