Rogers $7 Unlimited Data

hi everyone, have this little question for this unlimited data plan..... according to my knowledge, this plan is for rogers phones only... and non WM based phones. Rogers would keep a track of the IMEI of the phones that they have for this, and if the IMEI of the phone is not from Rogers then they would put a pay per use charge on the bill not honoring the $7 package.

The weird question that I have is..... what if the IMEI of the phone is a Rogers phone IMEI, but the phone is not a Rogers phone? :P

Any suggestions?

Then you'd be breaking the law.

...and incur more than just the pay per use charges of the data usage you used.

Phonemore could have ask his question in a direct way then turning the steering wheel by asking. Will the Rogers Data Plan work if He unlocked his Roger's Mobile Phone.

$7 unlimited? I thought that's their crappy WAP based internet only.

this is for fido, but might apply for rogers as well

http://fido.ca/portal/en/domore/sdp_options.shtml

What is included in the Unlimited Surfing on your Fido Option?

This Option includes Unlimited Surfing on your Fido phone using the built in mobile browser on your Fido handset. It is only available on select phones (Windows Mobile devices, PC cards and non-Fido certified phones are not eligible).

What is not included in the plan?

* Tethering - tethering is when you use your phone as a wireless modem to connect to the Internet via a laptop. The phone can be connected via USB cable or Bluetooth. Once connected, you can access the Internet wirelessly on your laptop using the Fido wireless network.
* PC Card usage – A PC Card works like a wireless modem for Internet access via a laptop. You can choose a PC Card instead of tethering your Fido phone.
* Using non-Fido (3rd party) applications that you have downloaded to your device. 3rd party applications are applications like Opera Mini browser or Google Maps.
* Use of applications sold by Fido and applications supplied by the phone manufacturer that are pre-loaded on to your device may incur data charges. Consult each application individually.

Usage incurred in the above mentioned ways will incur data charges.

So even if you change your IMEI, but if the phone doesn't come from rogers (without rogers firmware, it won't have Roger's built in browser) you'll still be charged if they find out.

In other words, clone the IMEI, which is Phonemore's question.
And from the response given (either from scheng or bcrdukes) from another thread, Rogers does more than track IMEI.

And not to be on the offensive side, and this is not directed at Phonemore at all, but by doing something illegal as to get the $7 UL data, I'm glad Rogers is implementing IMEI tracking and such.
Whether the plan is restricted or not is not the point. It's that people would go so far as to go around the system to get the $7UL data.

thought you get like restrictions where you can't access certine page for the $7 UL wap

Hm....not the best way to take risk......

$7 rogers will give u the awesome text based WAP. It's complete different from Fido and Bell's unlimited $7 internet.

Nope, fido is wap browsing only as well and only on fido branded phones that are not smartphones and pda's.

ahh my mistake. Guess it's only Bell then with the true unlimited internet access

Phonemore 04-22-2008 05:55 PM

I believe telus offers an unlimited data plan as well. I thought the bell $7 plan was strictly for the HTC touch as bell does not categorize the htc touch as a pda type phone.

i read this from another forum. that if u get the 15$ value pack that includes unlimited wap browsing which is the 25$ plan right now from rogers, use a unlock phone and go on the non rogers browser. rogers will not charge you for downloading stuff. is this true?

Rogers doesn't track IMEI numbers...... Their phones and their lines is not capable of doing that WHY?

Think about the stolen Phones even Blackberry.... Lost phones and etc.... it should be easy yo track it if they have this tech....

SkinnyPupp 10-31-2009 07:25 PM

It's for WEB browsing only. Something that you use very little data for anyway. $7 is a good deal, but it's pretty much slightly more than useless. I guess it's okay for the people who occasionally check Facebook or whatever. But as soon as you open a twitter program or Google Maps or something, you are going to start incurring huge fees.

SmarTone has a plan just like that here. How many minutes do you get for the $7?

SmarTone gives you 20MB a day of web browsing, and 1600 minutes (600 of which are to other numbers in the same network) for $15 CAD per month.

Still useless though, for anyone who does stuff with their phones.

i have a n82 and i have the 20 value pack which includes the unlimited mobile browsing, when i use the gps or go on any other internet sites it doesn't charge me. beside youtube or anything else that loads videos or music, and i use more than 15mb per month.

A.k.a. "GoRogers" and "Rogers Internet." $7 Unlimited = GoRogers.

JF. 11-12-2009 10:37 AM

i just found out that the wap browser no longer work with unlock phones. is this true? the rogers customer service told me this today. i decided to call in after my unlock n82 browser doesnt let me surf on the net anymore and started to ask me to buy data for 4.99/50mb/24hr.
