what if this is all a cover up for ICBC to make more money?

godwin 05-18-2008 03:23 PM

ICBC probably make more in interest than the profit they generate from settling these claims. Ever learn of "Opportunity Cost"?

Update: http://www.news1130.com/news/more.js...31_6724&page=1

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A man with an alleged grudge against ICBC has been found guilty of one count of mischief. Soo Yo Kim avoided 42 other charges.

It stems from roughly 400 cars being keyed last year in various locations that stretched from Science World to Coquitlam. Police say they arrested the 31-year-old Kim after watching him key several cars in East Vancouver last April. The Coquitlam resident was named as the prime suspect at that point and has prior convictions for similar crimes.

However, a provincial court judge threw out 42 of 43 charges citing a lack of evidence and improper handling of the case. It's believed Kim had some sort of ongoing dispute with ICBC, but whether that was his motivation remains unclear.

Well done. One count of mischief. I guess that'll net him 30 to life!

CorneringArtist 07-18-2009 08:57 PM

Good going. ANOTHER example of why Canada's justice system fucking sucks. They let off ANOTHER person who CLEARLY did the crime with a slap on the wrists.

... which in our judicial system equates to a slap on the wrist and time served

Marco911 07-19-2009 06:52 PM

That's only on the criminal side. I'm sure ICBC is suing him in civil court to recover damages for claims they have to pay out. This guy's future is fucked.
