I had the burger and pie for lunch today. Didn't like the pie...it was just blueberries in a pie crust with a bit of whipped cream on top. I'd hardly call that a pie.

I went to Tokyo Joe's Sushi Factory today (just happened to walk by it today when going to the bank and thought I'd give it a try). I had the Chirashi Don. Pretty decent value - 6 pieces of salmon, 6 pieces of tuna, one ebi and two slices of octopus on a LOT of rice. (and a little salad on top for decoration). Cost $15 after taxes and came with all you can drink miso as well. Fish was very fresh and pretty generous size/quantity.

I'd give it a solid 8.5/10

I think I need to have you over next time I make ramen.
Can I ask you why you gave them 9/10? And comparatively, what would you give Santouka?

it's grungy, dirty, greasy, dive like, and the food is cheap, quick and good. i'm not expecting a fancy meal like santouka (which I have been to a couple times, and I do like it)

i wouldn't hesitate to give a 9/10 to santouka as well, but for different reasons.

...sooo......you're gonna make me ramen? sweeeeet.

Is Tokyo Joe "authentic" japanese or those places where they act like they are japanese but then the chefs are chinese? i pass by it alot but have never wanted to try since it didnt look too authentic.

Banzai Sushi on Westminiter in richmond (the mall across from the richmond public market). "Non-authentic" sushi joint where ppl who own and run it are Viet LOL. At least they should have spoke some english when they were making the sushi but instead they kept talking in Vietnamese.
Ordered some combo around $8.95?
Sushi is ok 6.5/10
Sashimi: 6/10
Service 6/10
*the waitress try to look jap but their heavy make-up gives it away that they are Viet, plus the chefs talk way too much (to each other) when making the sushi.
Maybe they are better off opening in places like Yellowknife or Chilliwack LOL

*See for yourself here:

Korean people run Tokyo Joe.

It's not that bad to grab a quite bite.

Price is decent too.

That's what I read too when I was browsing Urbanspoon afterwards. I had no idea that place was there. I just happened to see it as I was driving past and was hungry. They definitely come up with your food very quick though. I had barely sat down and finished my miso and they brought out my meal.

While I think Vera's is okay, but 10/10 for food? What.

Haha i was hungry at that time and the Ringo Starr just hit the spot. So I guess you can say that 10/10 was just my biased opinion.

Went to Mandalay Steakhouse in Steveston for my birthday today.

Nice and small little place with a great view of the river where we sat.

Pretty much everyone at my table ordered the Prime Rib with was only available on Fridays and Saturdays.

However, the waitress came back and was very apologetic and said to us that there were only two cuts of prime rib left and they were sold out of the filet mignon and some other cut, and all that was left pretty much was the cheaper sirlon steak only in the smaller cut.

Because of that, my friend for the most part was the most upset by this and I was affected too. How the hell you run out of steaks at a steakhouse and our dinner was at 8pm.

Overall the food was just mediocre. Manager came and talked to us, gave us a round of shots and took the bill off our drinks and gave us a 15% discount from the total bill. For me, I think the manager did the right thing, considering running out of steaks in a steakhouse is quite embarrassing and unacceptable.

Oh wells. I had high hopes for this place and wanted to try it for the the longest time; even the pictures on their website looked nice

Overall: Food: 6/10 Service: 7/10 I might come back again and hopefully they wont run out of steaks.
