Ichiban Sushi on Thurlow
1/10

Randomly went in at around 10:00PM, ordered spicy tuna and chopped scallop roll. Both were not fresh, friends 1 order took about 30 minutes to come. They also over-charged us for the meal now that I look at my receipt, added the tips on the bill. So i pretty much double tipped them for a shitty meal for 2.

Went to Nanchuu a couple days ago since they reopened, looks pretty much the same except they took out the big wooden table that used to be by the door and replaced it with a pinball machine. Lol. Changed the areas in the back where you used to have to take off your shoes to slide in booths too. Anyways, maybe they had a bad day but the food was definitely not as good as pre-reno. First of all they changed the menu and took away alot of the things from the old menu. Half of the new menu is ramen or mini dons and stuff that would be served at GMen and for the other half menu the izakaya items on there really remind me of shit that you see on the menus at Manzo or Soul. They took out all the robata (ie. the skewers and grilled shit) and most of the sashimi.. NO ROBATA? what the fuck. And the thing that pissed me off the most was that they nerfed the tako wasabi.. it seriously came with half the amount of tako than before and it was just barely cold when served..

the only dishes that i remembered to be pretty good were the chicken karrage which was has always been pretty damn good, and this dish of chicken gizzards and cucumbers in a spicy sauce (tastes like those cold spicy cucumbers you order in taiwanese restaurants).

Seriously don't know what the fuck happened, its like Lela Star, fucking was so hot before and then decided to get fake tits and a fake lip. Having said that I'd still bone her so I probably will give new Nanchuu another go

The horse sashimi was very tender, well marbled, and sliced paper thin, like carpaccio. Taste was good, very similar to beef, and not gamey tasting at all.

Budgie's Burritos (Vegetarian burritos)

- Hipster burrito place, and it sure was very hipster (not a good thing, since hipsters hype up their own joints too much even though they're not worth it)
- The burrito was plain and just average (I used to live in San Diego, I've tried the best Mexican food, and this place is no where close)
- Price seemed fair when you order, but once you tried it, you want your money back

6/10

The other day we went to Rodneys (sat evening)
2 dozen assorted oysters
1 Crab Cakes
1 Grilled buttered Shrimp
1 Scallop pasta
3 Coronas and 1 Ceasar

total bill 180 before taxes/tips

8.5/10. Server was nice and as always the food was good.
-------
We went to Hapas (yaletown) after for drinks....12 triple towers/5 red dragon specials between 5 people...good god. Surprised they didn't ask us to get food or get out during their peak hours...

8.5/10. Our server was cute and attentive.

Word on the street is that their take-out portions are much bigger than their eat-in portions.

The Keg in Richmond

I ordered two glasses of keg size wine for drinks. My glass came with two fruit flies in it. That's right flies in my wine. Fucked up part is that I didn't notice this until after my first sip. I already knew this wasn't gonna be a very good experience.
So I call my waitress over, asked her for a new glass nicely. When my new glass came it was noticeably less than my mom's "already had couple of sips" glass. What. The. Eff.

I ordered lobster & shrimp salad. Lobster piece was ridiculously small. But I guess shrimps made up for it. Didn't really like the dressing very much and it was salty as fuck (who eats salty salad... Come on....) 2/10
Mom ordered prime rib. Good as always but the steak was a little salty too and it had A LOT more fatty part (compared to last time I went). 8/10
My brother ordered New York Steak. He said for some reason centre of the steak was salty. But other than that it was alright. 8/10 (according to him)

Mom tried to tip her $20 when they didn't even take the fly-filled wine off the bill. I yelled at her not to tip her. I honestly don't think she deserve it. Service was alright but i still can't get over drinking that wine with not just one but two flies in it (who knows maybe I drank couple) that came with noticebly less quantity. Anyways my mom ended up tipping her $4 at the end (bill was 106 and she left 110) after lil argument. She should be thankful.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to rock a mustache like a hipster and not feel dirty. Call me jealous, call me wrong, but I do not recommend Budgie's Burrito.

7 Sweet Sins (Desserts)
My gf lives above this little dessert place in Gastown (-ish) and we finally tried it out two nights ago. The place is small, with a tacky pink wall that gives out a home essence. She ordered the Neapolitan cake and I ordered the black forest cake. The first one was unique, and the hard layered texture made it hard, but fun, to eat. Black forest was average, I could have gotten the same thing for half the price at T&T.

7.5/10 - I will definitely come back again and try something else
