Went to Ebisu on robson today.. Pretty good for happy hour except the part where I found a hair in the nachos....
What do you guys do if you found a hair? Would you just shrug it off and keep eating or would u notify staff and return it? Posted via RS Mobile |

FYI Kimura Sushi changed owners (therefore the chef too). While their specials still offer decent value, the food was not as good as it was before. Still worthy of a 7/10 though.
Anyhow, chatted with the waitress and she said the previous chef/owner may open up another place in the future. I'm going to miss his california rolls with toasted sesame seeds (in fact that was what prompted me to ask about the chef ). They were my go to place when I'm around Burnaby.

i went there with the old chef and wasnt impressed.
yes it was a great value in terms of quantity, but out of the 9 or 10 dishes only about 2 i could say were above average (tuna tataki and oyster shot?)
2nd last course, lasagna
last course, french onion soup
wtf??

wtf?? | Their omakase sucked. I assume that's what you had, cause I had similar experiences.
I mainly go there for their lunch sets.

There is so much butter chicken that I run out of naan before I run out of chicken/nector of the God's sauce.
Have to order it take out. | great food
Dont' bother eating in if your in a group.
I've ordered many times to go, experience eating in last sunday was frustrating and like others have said, smaller portions.

Sushi Hachi in Richmond on Odlin Crescent. Shop faces Cambie street.
Run by a Japanese couple, the place has only 4 tables plus a bar and is strictly a sushi bar with just a few hot items like BBQ squid.
The rolls are cheap - $3-5 while the sashimi is a bit pricier but they use the good stuff, no farmed salmon for example.
Definitely worth going to if you like your sashimi fresh and tasty. It's authentic stuff.

Chewies on W. 1st and Yew St. Kitsilano
I was craving for southern food and wanted to try this place out with the gf.
Got half a dozen of oysters, side of fries for apps.
I got the buttermilk fried chicken, gf got the jambalaya.
Both dishes were great, service was just alright. Overall 7.5/10 Will definitely come back for brunch for the chicken and waffles.

*edit it was actually "Tandoori Raj, The Original" on Fraser and 65th. Not The Original Tandoori Kitchen
On the table: Butter chicken (lighter coloured dish), Lamb Tikka Masala, Naan, and rice. Not pictured was the spinach stuffed naan. One of the better Indian meals I’ve eaten. Quite spicy, just the way I like it. Would be returning again. 8/10

La Taqueria W. Hastings location
8.5/10
Loved the place! Great service and cute guys. deff turned my shitty day around
Portions are pretty small for a $10 meal. And it was a mess eating them.
But loved the atmosphere because it really reminded me of Mexico and tacos were pretty good (although I admit it wasn't OMG FANTASTIC level)
Not sure what I got. Told the guy to give me 4 meats and 4 veggies for 2; me and my girl friend.
Personally didn't really like the bean one. But rest were pretty good Posted via RS Mobile |

I go there once a week. Although its not cheap per say, I get full off of 4 tacos and a pop, which is like 12 bucks. In comparison, Mcdonalds is even 9 bucks to get full. Theres no such thing as a cheap meal anymore unless its absolute shit pizza or something

thai cafe by hasting and gilmore.
Nice little thai food joint. Prices went up alittle after their renovation, but still reasonable. Food quality has been always consistant, so cant complain... however it has been a hit or miss for a couple of my friends.
Would recommend the Pad Thai!
Lunch times are usually pretty packed, so i would recommend going at night or after lunch hours.
P.S: They just started all you can eat on Wednesdays. Decent price. Believe it was around $12-14 if i remember correctly

Had dinner at Seto Japanese Restaurant in Richmond.
9/10
The freshest sashimi I ever had.
- deluxe sashimi
- Prawn Tempura
- Anego Battera(it's like unagi roll but the fat part the eel??)
- miso soup
- cali+bc+dyna combo
- uni nigiri
- fugu boshi?
Prices are quite higher than most Japanese restaurants but well worth it. |

I'll do 2 places.
Chewies
Service 6/10
Food 8.5/10
Value 7.5/10
I had the Jambalaya, gf had prawn pappardale, Gma had fried oysters, Gpa had bbq prawns. All the food was great, pretty substantial, well seasoned, spicy. Overall no complaints other than the smoked chicken in my jambalaya had a lot of very chewy skin. I love skin, but it needs to be crisped up a bit. Service was just ok, but the waitress was smoking hot.
Trattoria
I was kinda forced into this one. I can't remember a meal that I have been happy with at any Glowbal place considering how good the menu looks, then how terribly average the food is when you get it.
Food 5/10
Service 9/10
Value 5/10
Chicken parm was good, quite substantial and tasty. Girlfriend liked her pizza, but compared to the other pizza in the city its pretty mediocre. Risotto, this is where they dropped the fucking ball. It was unreal how bland it was. Literally not a pinch of salt. It was just awful. The pancetta mushroom fusili. It was quite good, but there were whole sprigs of thyme in it. Like 8 or 9 mixed in. You don't put herbs on a plate that you can't eat. I just don't get it. Its like in the 80s when someone thought it was a good idea to garnish a plate with whole sprigs of rosemary. Its like someone threw a pine tree into your meal. Service was great. Very friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Also seemed like a very sweet genuine girl. Its nice when you can tell someone has a real personality that is serving you. I won't ever go back here, or maybe to any glowbal restaurant, unless its to poach the server when I open a place haha. It really is just a group of glorified moxies/earls/cactus type food with a little more pretension.

21 Steps Whistler
cheaper alternative to the fine dining in whistler but still a very nice casual place, they have a $40 3 course menu, any appy, any main, any dessert, a few of the steak options you add a few bucks for
i had the Prawn appy, Prime rib steak dinner, and cheesecake desert, the prawns were litterally the best prawns ive ever had, they were cooked in a kind of peanut sauce with green onions and a bunch of other garnishes, amazing
the steak was about a 7/10, not over the top great the the garlic mash and veggies were very good
in house made cheesecake was pretty awsome, more tart than sweet which i like in a cheesecake, fresh strawberry puree,
$160 for 2 people including tip and a bottle of wine, a nice alternative to Araxi/Hy's in whistler

九道 Nine Dishes on Kingsway and St. Catherines. It's still amazing and cheap. If you want to get away from the usual Cantonese-styled Chinese food, try this place.
