I wish Bo's roti canai are not as oily and greasy as they are.

Banana Leaf (on Davie): 8/10...decent food, didn't blow me away though. Didn't help that I know that the one on Denman hasn't been open that long and is already offering "daily lunch specials" at fixed prices.

The Red Onion Kerrisdale 6.5/10
Good cajun chicken burger. Terrible fries; overcooked it was just all fried outside and no soft potato inside.

Had to try this place out since I live so close to it and after reading reviews I had to try the chicken and waffles.
The gf and I arrived just pass 11am and we were the first people there. We wanted to sit next to each other on a 4 top table but the server would'nt allow it even though no one was in the restaurant. So whatever we just sat at a cramped 2 top. I can understand that you are probably expecting a lunch rush so I can let that go. Food took about 25 minutes to make after we ordered...but that was ok I can understand they just opened and might be a little behind on prep. What I did not appreciate was how when our food was ready and I clearly heard the chef say order up the plates were sitting on the hot pass for atleast 2 minutes(felt like 5!) even though no one else was in the restaurant!!! What's worst is the chef went over to the server and started chatting him up and not even mentioning again that the food was ready. The server was busy doing something on the computer which I could clearly see him playing with from the mirrors on the wall. I'm sorry but if the restaurant is empty and we are the only paying customers in the room you better drop what your doing and just deliver that god damn food right when its ready and then go back to do whatever the fu*k you were doing. It's not that hard its about the customer in the restaurant business.
Anyways beside the below than mediocre service the food was decent. Would of been better experience if we just got the food when it was ready.
Sadly I do not want to come back, but I probably will because its just so damn close by to my place and the food is pretty good too. I will probably just do take out next time. | 2 Chef and a Table has gone down since they started getting popular. I went to their original location (DTES/Gas Town area) a few months ago and the food quality definitely was not as good as a year ago. The portions shrunk dramatically and food just didn't taste as good as before.

Ditto.
I went to the original 2 Chefs and a Table in the DTES when they first opened several years back. Upon returning several times and a few recommendations to friends, their quality of food and service suffered (how or why, I don't know.)
I'm not too concerned about food portions but when food preparation and quality aren't maintained to a standard, something's really wrong. My last visit (a year ago) left me with the impression that things were just sloppy and I'm trying not to be overly critical here.

Yes
Don't care for it nor will I return. Typical hipster circle jerk but some people swear by the food. Your mileage may vary.

I'm not saying don't go. You should just go in and try it with no real expectations. I went there once, tried some off another friend's and was like "umm...okay? What's so great about this place?"
I feel that they overdo everything, especially in the taste/flavour department. Every bit of sauce or condiment or what have you is just "BLAM!" here you go kinda thing. I'm not expecting a 3-star Michelin dining experience but the hype and glorification of this hipster circle jerk does not deserve the credit it is given. If you partied last night, have a hangover still and have the munchies, yeah, by all means, it'll be a 10/10 A++ will return experience.
And I'm sure it's a joke but they have a list of 10 rules at the diner and the first one is "Ketchup goes with everything, including pasta." I'm not sure that it's my kind of place to hit up. Just sayin'.
Give it a go and let us how it went.

Then you'll love their Facebook page even more https://www.facebook.com/pages/Deaco...29247860459214
Think of the place as a try-hard greasy spoon diner. It's located in a bit of a rough part of town and they serve breakfast but with a bit of sassy flair while offering some comfort food/meals with a touch of culinary jazz. They try to act like the tough kid in class but really, they aren't. More of an identity crisis if anything. "Hey, I'm an East Van Thug." But really, they want to fit in with the hip Gastown crowd.
FWIW - I went there before it was cool.

I looked and saw "truffled hollandaise." I almost threw my computer across the living room. So fucking sick of these shitty places putting some garbage chemical tasting truffle oil in shit and thinking they are awesome.

Boiling Point in Richmond: 6.5/10
Food took about ~40mins because our order ticket fell somewhere
At least they were very apologetic and gave my GF and I free drinks of our choice and a 10% discount coupon for our next visit
