Coast
9/10
ordered the crab cake, mac and cheese, spicy tuna roll, full lobster and steelhead. Overall I thought the food was very good, but I find it to be pretty loud inside. The service was pretty good as well.

The generational battle over noisy restaurants | CTV British Columbia News
Posted via RS Mobile

Quote:
Emad Yacoub, president of the Glowbal Restaurant Group, a popular and loud collection of Vancouver eateries, says that noise equals success in his businesses.
"That means that the restaurant is busy, lively, it's fun," he said.
But Yacoub admits that he frequently gets requests to turn down the volume.
"We have these troubles all the time, people coming in and say, ‘You know what, the place is noisy.' [But] we don't believe it's noisy, we believe it's alive."
The international restaurant review website Zagat says next to bad customer service, too much noise is the number 1 complaint.

Sushi Hachi (Richmond one)

I'm a regular customer here (once or twice a month)

Food:
Fresh sashimi as always.

real crab nigiri is WUNDERBAR.

The chef sometimes throws in a few pieces of other fish for free.

The Kanpechi Kama (spelling) is always, always good even though they don't specialize in cooked/hot plates.

As always, consistent from the numerous times I ate here.

I love consistency.

Service:
I'm used to the 1-woman show (the wife from the husband/wife team).

She gets things done.

10/10

Shanghai River
Food:
Above average Shanghai style lunch/dim sum.

The spicy/hot wonton is delicious.

The fried bread (the long bread split into 2 long sections) is okay, and needed a little more taste.

The soy milk is good.

The crab meat dumplings is fantastic.

Make sure you eat it in one gulp so the juice inside explodes in your mouth (make sure it's not too hot before you do this though...).

Service:
Prompt service.

Except that when we arrived, the host (one of the owners I think...) said we didn't have a reservation.

8/10

J & C Top Gun Restaurant, dinner

Food:
Great seafood.

Cooked well, with ample taste.

One problem with one of the dishes and that was rectified within 5 minutes (they replaced it promptly).

For small dishes or seafood, J & C Top Gun does both very well.

Service:
Smiling and attentive servers.

8.5/10

Sabatinos Trattoria

Appy - West Coast Mussels: coconut milk, lemongrass, chipotle - 10/10

Main - Mixed Grill: 3oz salmon, 3oz halibut, risotto, vegetables, papaya salsa - 9.5/10

The Mussels were insanely good and perfectly done. We were also served fresh baked rosemary bread. Sopping up the sauce was almost as good as the mussels themselves.

The Mixed Grill was amazing as well. Only reason it lost half a point was because the risotto could've used another minute or two max. Aside from that, fish and veggies cooked perfectly and everything tasted great.

If you're ever hungry in South Surrey, check this place out. Both items I reviewed are on the summer menu so they won't last!

Miku
Food 9/10
Ordered Spot Prawn Sashimi w/ the head deep fried
Beef carpaccio (I thought Minami made it better the last time I had it there)
Aburi Salmon Oishi Sushi...awesome as always, we ordered 4 orders between the 3 of us
Also ordered the King Roll, Red Wave and the Crunchy Scallop Roll
overall the Aburi Salmon Oishi is still by far my favorite.
Ambiance 8/10
The new Miku location is pretty nice, great view of Canada Place
However the booth I sat in wasnt the most comfortable, and there wasnt an area to hang up jacket, but I suppose I probably could've given it to the host
Service 8/10
What you would expect from a place like this, very attentive

Nao Sushi
I posted in the sushi thread but was very impressed with this place
Food 8/10
Ordered 6 pieces of Toro Nigiri, 1 Negitoro Roll and 2 of their creative rolls
Their creative rolls were..um okay, very fresh, but not super "creative", but their Toro Nigiri was AMAZING, the quality of Toro totally exceeded my expectations from a place that only charges $1.50/pc, the toro melts in your mouth, the quality and texture of the rice is also spot on. My friend tells me this place is Japanese owned/operated which is always nice for a sushi joint.
Service/Ambiance 6/10
Not bad, a bit loud, the server helped you when you needed it, but besides bringing your food, there wasnt much extras

Guu on Thurlow
Went here for late night drinks and food
Food 6/10
Nothing special imo, ordered a few appies, the fried rice and the negitoro Don

Ap Gu Jung Korean Restaurant on Robson
Food 6/10
The seafood pizza was the only thing I enjoyed, the menu is very small and didnt have a lot of options.
The beef for the korean bbq was fairly low quality
Portions were nice and large, and value was decent, $130 fed 6 of us with plenty of left overs.
I still prefer Jang Mo Jib better (and yes I know that isnt even suppose to be that good in terms of korean food)

Falconetti's East Side Grill
Food: 8/10
I got the Sausage Sampler, every one of the sausage was very good
lots of flavor, not over cooked

Ambiance/Service 6/10
We sat upstairs on the patio, but it was extremely loud, and was hard to flag down on a server.

Splitz Grill in Whistler

8/10

Had the Canadian Lamb double patty... hnnngg
Fries didn't have that salty taste and were crunchy
Service was kind of long but worth it

Would definitely go again.

Checked out High Voltage in Edmonton per westopher's recommendation. Not sure how to rate donairs, so 8/10.

This is probably the best I've had though. Brushing the exterior with oil and then sprinkling some herbs/salt/pepper. Then throwing it on the panini press put it over the top. Went back a couple of times lol.

Meditalia in Newton.

My go-to lunch plates. Pricier than most places around town, especially given the location. But the best chicken plate I've had in the city, and their wraps look pretty damn good too.

9.5/10 (score bumped down due to price)

Yew Restaurant + Bar
2/3 weeks ago
Brunch
8/10
Food:
Big portions for the price... could not finish.
Forgot the appetizer name
Had the Cobster, lobster served cold, which was okay.
Dessert was good (which I think is... easy to do in any case)
Turned out okay, not super good, not bad.
Service was punctual and exact.

Sura, Korean Restaurant on Robson, 2/3 weeks ago.
Dinner
Wow
10/10
Every single dish was fantastic.
The servers asked "how was the food?" about 5 times.
The music kinda rushes you to eat faster... like at the Keg.
Even if the service was poor (which it wasn't), the food more than makes up for anything bad at the restaurant.
If you want great Korean, go to Sura (but reserve though!)

Market
8/10
Brunch
Service was lacking, and there were only 2 or 3 tables, and 6 servers.
Food was above average, but they really should change the menu.
Price was spot on.
