Urban Thai Bistro YaleTown

Food: 7.5/10
Service: 8/10

Never had Pad Thai before, so I decided to order the shrimp pad thai. Tasted pretty good, but it was a bit salty. My friends said the same.

Went to Private Home again with a friend.

He had the cold potato noodles, hot & sour soup and sliced beef. I had the spicy green beans.

Fucking orgasmic but had to be super cautious because the sliced beef was garnished with peanuts.

Overall: 9/10. Definitely try the ginger beef next time.

EDIT: Don't want to start a new spotted thread. I passed by Seahorse Cafe on Kingsway near Victoria and saw a red Sebring convertible. Was that you Supa?

Kuma Japanese Restaurant on Dunbar. I consider myself a self-proclaimed sushi connoisseur based on the sheer amount of Japanese sushi restaurants I've tried in Vancouver, and hands-down I have never tried such an insanely good place. Not only is it Japanese-owned with excellent service, the quality of their food is top notch, beyond anything I've ever tried (ESPECIALLY all the Korean-owned sushi places).

Seriously, everyone needs to give this place a try. Hands-down 10/10.

Amazing sashimi, super fresh and just all around delicious.

Legit Kansai Style 100% authentic JDM okonomiyaki.

Looks good.

Not a fan of farmed pink salmon (vast majority of pink salmon is farmed).

Based on your experience, which restaurant serves the best sashimi?

Not sushi... just plain olde jane sashimi?

How's the sushi/sashimi fare in comparison to Sushi by Yuji, Ajisai, and that one in Richmond ?

Echo that thought... how does it fare against Sushi Hachi in Richmond (if that is the one you are talking about... if not, the question stills stands)?

Curious.

Couple of recent places.

Lotus in Richmond

Been here a couple times before, good for large groups as it's a pretty big place and not all too busy.

Had a pho and banh mi, pho was meh, beef was a bit chewy. The banh mi however, took me by surprise. It was pretty good, and the bread was great. I had the grilled pork one, gotta go back and try the others.

7/10, 8/10 for the sandwich and 6/10 for the pho.

Romer's Burger Bar

Good burgers here, the beef is definitely fresh and I'm getting hungry again just typing this out lol. Had the bacon cheeseburger with fried onions, and shared fries with a friend. Kinda of expensive though, 12 bucks just for the burger itself; you can easily rack up a $20 bill if you go for a drink, sides, etc.

8/10

That sashimi in the picture is farmed Atlantic salmon. I don't think anyone farms pink salmon on our coast.

My friend ordered the Chirashi-don, I'd have to say the sashimi is more or less on par with Sushi by Yuji with Ajisai, I guess it's just the freshness and quality of the food and the presentation that makes it equal to some higher end places. Definitely a hidden gem.

As for the okonomiyaki though, as I mentioned, this is probably one of the few, if not the only place in Vancouver to get totally authentic and outstanding okonomiyaki.

it's refreshing to see a place that serves good okonomiyaki. thats one of the few japanese staples that i was almost can never find a decent interpretation of. unfortunately, the fish seems to be cut slightly too thick for my liking on a chirashi despite being japanese owned. regardless, looks like a good find.

You are right.

My bad about the Atlantic/Pink.

But, I still prefer Wild sockeye more than farmed.

I read some reviews about it being too salty, but I thought it was perfect. It's really just an all-around good quality sushi and Japanese food establishment.

^ My grandparents and parents go to Bing Shen a lot, it's on Renfrew, near 1st, across from the TNT complex. I'm not really a dim sum eater, but whenever I go with them, the food is decent.

Compared to other places, I dunno, since I don't get dim sum a lot. I think they're like, average 3 bucks a dish..?

J & C top Gun in Richmond serves pretty good dim sum at a reasonable price (as long as you have their "Gold" car to get the discounts).

Or, Kirin in Richmond always deliver consistently delicious/quality dishes.
