Les Faux Bourgeois
Finally ended up trying this place after 5 failed attempts and I was disappointed to say the least. We stood at the door for a good few mins before anyone bothered to acknowledge us.
We got the mussells and fries to share and for entress I got the sirloin and my gf got the duck leg.
Mussells + fries = a little more on the bland side, nothing special.
Sirloin = cooked to a perfect med rare and the peppercorn sauce was alright but overall it wasn't anything that wowed me.
Duck Leg = Holy was this thing over salted. Could barely stand taking bites out of this.
Service = I'll just say it sucked pretty hard.
Overall = 3/10 , definitely way overhyped and will not be coming back.

Seriously? I went there 2 weeks ago and loved it. Service was great, my steak was good although I agree the peppercorn sauce was nothing to write home about, my wifes duck confit was good and the french onion soup was awesome. Also it was very reasonably priced. I'd have the steak again but get it with the red wine jus.

I see where winson604 is coming from. I've dined there twice and both occassions, I've noticed (out of observation) how service can lack. They seem to cherry pick who gets the extra attention and those who have to suffer. I can't explain it but it happens. I even see it when I'm loitering at Matchstick coffee while locking my bike or parking my car so it certainly is evident where service is bizarre.
I've had the duck confit and the seasoning was inconsistent. I was like, what? But nothing to be overly disappointed about. At least it wasn't over salted. The sirloin I've tried and yeah, the peppercorn sauce wasn't mind blowing.
Comparing to other French restaurants in the city, LFB is acceptable given quality of food to price. Service on the other hand is like a scratch and win lotto ticket.

Couldn't quite put my finger on why though but whatever the reason is, I think is unacceptable either way.
I'm still really sad that my our favorite French Restaurant Mistral closed because the head chef/owner got into a serious accident. That place had awesome food, awesome service, and a good vibe. I'm hoping they reopen in the next year or 2.

I strongly surmise that LFB is popular due to their prices (think Guu). Rated strictly on the food itself it is just good enough overall, no more, no less (again, think Guu). The service is decidedly 'French' - as to whether they are hamming up to the authentic French bistro experience or it is simply typical Vancouver arrogance depends on who you ask.
Mistral was great; excellent menu. I have a fondness for Le Parisien but they have purged some favourites off their menu.
Chez Meme Baguette Bistro 7/10
Baguette Willy (scrambled eggs, ham over sliced baguette) with fried potatoes. Also had a wedge of my friend's bourguignon baguette sandwich.
Heavy breakfast items, good portions eggs nicely done. Baguette fresh but lacked the flakey crust. Potatoes tender and seasoned, not throwaway. Good alternative.

Le Vol Au Vent in White rock is a excellent french bistro if you like LFB you should enjoy this place if you don't mind a little drive.
Owners are husband and wife and they pretty much do everything themselves but last time I went there was this young asian kid in the kitchen (probably learning from the owner).

Feeling lazy and didn't want to think of anything unique. Did the keg in Richmond.
6/10
- stood at the door for 5 minutes before a greeter even showed to bring us to a table
- date and i both got the 10oz prime rib dinner
- it was okay i guess. Meat was very well cooked, but the roasted veggies were mushy.
- took 25 minutes after finishing to get our plates cleared.
- an additional 10 to get our cheque
All n' all, it was way overpriced for quality of food and service. In retrospect i wish I went to original joes across the street Posted via RS Mobile |

Just ate at Smokehouse Sandwich Co. in Richmond. It's on Westminster just before 2 Road and wow, what a hidden gem. Food was delicious, the people were super nice - they asked for my name, talked to me about where I was from, etc. Highly recommended, especially for the price ($7.99 a sandwich).

That place used to be.... Damnit i can't remember. Some pub facing the south side of the Richmond works yard/recycle depot. I hope it works out because that location is not the greatest.
Either way i think I'll have to go check it out sometime. Looks super cozy Posted via RS Mobile |

| Big Star Sandwich - 9/10
In New Westminster, I was looking for a new place to get some food on my way to work.
Found this place, and they make great sandwiches and you can add hickory sticks to any sandwiches.
My favorite is #4... so good.

Went to a franchised one in Calgary and holy fuck, it sucked so hard, it was just way out of style for hipsters to jump on.

Burdoc & Co. for brunch
Food and service - 9/10. Overall, was pretty good. Shared a few dishes with friends. Nice, clean flavours and well prepared. Coffee was fresh single drip and the desserts were a real treat. Service from wait staff to kitchen crew was excellent - no problems whatsoever.
I couldn't give it a full 10 because $14 for something as simple as eggs, toast and what have you? But whatever. It's not a place I'd go to on a regular basis. It was worth trying and we were all very impressed with the food. Total hidden gem on Main Street.

Which Kegs are franchised? Any others in BC besides Richmond? The worst prime rib I've ever had was at Park Royal Keg.

Thurlow is franchised.
Yaletown is corporate. The new one on Dunsmuir might be corporate too. Although last time i went to Stillcreek, it sucked and thats apparently corporate.

The Emerald. Not bad for 12.50 brunch buffet. Very good omelette (I'd value it at $10-$11 if eaten at iHop but this one here was better), and the rest were fillers to get full.
7.5/10 for food, mainly the omelette
Ambiance and service is left to be desired.
