Zhao's Soup House - 8/10

I don't ordinarily review Chinese restaurants just because they are typically one and the same, but this place stood out in terms of quality.

Of course the soup is their claim to fame, but the side dishes were equally as well made with quality ingredients. Peppercorn beef with bell peppers was very tender with a lot of meat, and the spinach with salted egg was well seasoned but not overly salty.

Pink Peppercorn seafood-9/10

Was not that busy for a Friday night. Keeping in mind that this was Friday Jan 2.
We were expecting portions to be on the smaller side given our past experiences when eating at slightly more expensive restaurants. We were pleasantly wrong.
Good service from the waiter. Attentive without being overly attentive.
I had the prawns and papaya salad and my wife had the lobster and blue crab meat salad.
Bigger portions than we were expecting. Very tasty.
For the main entrees we went with the customer favourites of the salmon wellington.
Salmon was moist and the filo pastry was nice and flaky. Again, the portion was bigger than we expected.
We only managed to eat half of our entrees and had to pack them to take home.

Waiter was nice and surprised us with a complimentary creme brulee b/c we were there to celebrate my wife's birthday.

Jimoco Cafe & Pasta in Coquitlam.

Got it for lunch today, ordered the easiest pasta known to man; Fettuccine Alfredo. It was only $9.16 - Pasta was good, alfredo sauce was a little dry, it was more parmesan than anything I think. I guess you get what you pay for. Probably wouldnt order from there again.

Glad to hear the Pink Peppercorn has been consistent. I haven't been there in a while!

Is it me or everything at Pink Peppercorn is overly sweet? From the veg, sauces, mashed potatoes... I went twice in a 3.month time span last year with similar experiences. Havent been back since.

Things are a little sweet there. My favourite thing is probably the prawn and papaya salad. I still think the place has a very good value and I always have to pack half the wellington for home. Tried just about every item on the menu already too. The Chef and both regular waiters are very friendly all the time.

Yeah I noticed things were overly sweet at pink peppercorn, even the mashed potatoes

When I went there, it reeked of air freshener (like the ones used in hotel bathrooms); that, and the overly sweet food, made me lose my appetite.

The service was pretty good though.

Spoiler!

Mongolie Grill on Fraser Hwy :::: 8 / 10

Fresh Ingredients -- good, friendly and courteous staff -- mmmm, cakes for dessert

I had been to the one in Richmond, but, I found this one just upped the "Mongolie" for me

Sekai Udon Bar @ Metrotown

It's sort of reminds me of the Udon bars in Japan. The price on the other hand is pretty high for a small portion of noodles. Udon itself is good though.
