Carano Pizza on 26th and Fraser

8/10

Smallish pizzas, a bit pricey, but the pizzas are unique and IMO taste very good
positive side note - cute waitress looks like Mila Kunis

Homer St. Cafe and bar:

Take-out (only ordered the 1 appy):
The crispy chicken skin ALWAYS deliver!

10/10 for food.

Miku:

Aburi sushi was very good.

Sashimi was fresh.

Calamari tasted unique, cooked well, and had a very complementary sauce.

Dessert (Spiced Chocolate Cream) was very good!

Server was professional, yet personal at the same time.

We chatted for several minutes.

And, you can't beat the VIEW of the waterfront and Canada Place.

Parking is not convenient unless you can find a metered spot or walk a few blocks from underground parking garages.

10/10

Minami

The menu is almost the same as the one in Miku (sister restaurant, same owner) except a few items.

The taste is the same as in Miku.

Hi,

I had dinner earlier at The Blacktail Florist with a friend from Toronto.

I ordered the mushroom pappardelle based on your experience and I agree, it was great.

Drinks:
- Tommy's Margarita
- Winter Smoke

Dinner consisted of:
- Beet salad
- Butternut squash soup
- Mushroom papperdelle
- Cache Creek natural beef striploin

Having dined there a handful of times, I find that their service lacks primarily with the server. The front of house, kitchen, and bar staff have been great, however.

It was a Monday so it wasn't hectic but dinner service was steady. Considering everything said and done - 9/10.

Ox & Angela - Calgary

- stuffed persian dates w/serrano ham, manchego cheese & walnuts
- mediterranean salad, local tomatoes & cucumbers, roasted onion,
goat feta, crispy chorizo, kale salsa verde
- pan seared scallops, almond picada, grilled onion, crispy serrano ham
- pan fried mushrooms on toasted sourdough, soft egg & truffle
- ZFC! - za'atar fried chicken, harrisa dip, local herb salad

To drink: An Old Fashioned - makers mark bourbon, sugar, orange & angostura bitters, orange peel

Food was fantastic. The Old Fashioned was great. It was a lot more food than I had expected and the flavours brought back a lot of memories from my trip to Spain.

I wasn't a huge fan of the arugula in the salad and the fried chicken dish as it wasn't something I personally came across during my travels, but nonetheless, the portion sizes were beyond what I had expected for Spanish tapas, so be careful of how much you order! I would have happily stopped at the scallops and passed on the pan friend mushrooms and friend chicken.

9/10

My Shanti by Vikram Vij

Chicken Korma was grilled chicken with the same sauce they use for the lamb popsicle at Vij's

Beef rib was salty and boring. Coconut cream curry was misleading as it was not curry

Samosas are okay but $5 a piece

Wild boar kebab tastes one of the 7 ways of beef (vietnamese dish) i've had

Solid 9/10 for the chicken
Everything else 7/10. Overpriced

Different menu. I feel like My Shanti's menu is more plain jane than Vij's where it is more out of the box

Minami for dinner last night
Wild boar bacon on salmon oshi bites. Either $3.75 or $4. Not on the menu. The meat was orgasmic. Crunchy, fatty, and hard to come across. Only available if you request to head sushi chef at the sushi bar 10/10

Oshis, ebi fritter, is solid, but doesn't really stand out so I'm not gonna bother talking about

Aburi maguro nigiri: Ordered this cause it looked kinda fatty. I have no idea why this place prides on "bringing aburi style to Vancouver" when they barely sear their sushi. Its just a cooked 1" patch on my fish. Does not bring out any flavours and the fish wasn't all that great either. 0/10

Unagi and Anago nigiri: Don't get it here, get it at miku. Miku will charcoal grill it the fish and then flame sear it whereas in Minami they only lightly grill it and do not bother searing at all 6/10

1st time walked into Miku, my impression was - psshh, fancy higher priced sushi with a pretty waterfront view

Ordered the 12 piece premium sushi lunch. Impression was - looks nice. Paying extra for view and presentation

Ate first bite of scallop sushi. Impression was - pretty good. But any decent sushi place will scallop will taste good. Impossible to mess up with scallop

1st bite into Aburi salmon oishi. Impression was -

Eyes were opened on that day

La Pentola della Quercia (in the Opus Hotel).

Had the $75 family style dinner which was a 10 course meal. Other than a mushroom risotto that was a bit salty the meal was excellent - very good value with a lot of diversity ranging from a grilled radicchio salad with cured beef to a duck ragu pasta to a bone in rib steak for 5.

Service from our waiter, Peter, was excellent as well.

Bonus points for the people watching - the lady on my right was in her early 50's and had a plump face full of Botox while the couple on my left consisted of a geeky looking Chinese guy wearing a bow tie who was with his hot, busty "girlfriend".

Hopefully I can get some help in here. I wanted to make a thread but that seems like a waste. Anyways its me and my girls 1 year and I want to take her out for a nice lunch. I want to go somewhere that's not like a cactus, earls type of place. I guess a little more higher end up not like $100 per plate. Anywhere in the lower mainland is good I drive so it's not a big deal. I was thinking black and blue or a place like Kobe (heard its not good so probably not), and the spinning restaurant (which I heard is a rip off but more about the view). Anyways anything helps. Thanks.

The lunch menu (you said lunch) is well below $40 per person.

Their burger is wunderbar.

Valet = $15 (you've been warned).

Find some metered parking or Pacific Centre next door.

If are you are more into brunch, Yew, across from Hawks, has a lot of menu choices.

Oh man dat burger. I enjoyed my dinner there, but it was not worth the cost. The lunch was a relative bargain, a more welcoming atmosphere and our server was awesome.
