Chinese restaurant is Chinese owned and operated, no one bats an eye.

Japanese restaurant is Japanese owned and operated, and suddenly it's 'authentic' and its great because it's "Japanese owned" like nothing else matters.

Not aiming at Keifun, but this is a pattern I notice with urbanspoon comments and those wannabe food bloggers that always uses that argument to justify one's admiration for a Japanese restaurant. Like fuck, Indian restaurants are owned by Indians, Koreans restaurants are owned by Koreans, does that mean their food is the best or an representation of what that country has to offer?

But how often if ever do you see a non chinese person owning a chinese joint, or a non indian owning an indian joint? Those fancy yaletown ish made for white peep joints don't count. Now think about how many chinese, korean, or viet owned japanese places there are. That's why that argument is made.

Angel Cafe

One of the better places for A+B breakfast combo around.
Chicken+mushroom omelette and french toast
Satay beef macaroni soup + milk tea $7.50

Much better deal than the ones in richmond I think.

8/10

Regardless, its a weak argument.

Rajio 9/10. Food is awesome as always and always delivers, easily 10/10 for food. Except this older auntie server is really really really really fucking loud. Not just izakaya-server loud, but loud as in you can hear her vocal chords vibrating loud. Really annoyed the hell out of us when shes screaming by our ears when taking our orders

Went there last weekend. Absolutely awesome as usual. Although i didn't particularly enjoy the duck ramen. 5/6 dishes being fantastic though I can't complain.

Seafood bombshell is 10/10 legit. Duck ramen is just ok, but the regular menu shrimp ramen is so awesome. Cheap raw oysters too. They had a lobster ceviche at one point and that was quite good.

The older auntie server is the only one who speaks proper english and won't mess up your order so I like her a lot more than the other servers. Sometimes it's quite hard communicating to them. Imagine being drunk and slurring your speech already, I had a tough time with them.

So I am going to Paris in 2 weeks, and would like recommendations on a high-end michelin star place to do lunch at for their typically more affordable lunch menus.

Guy Savoy was my first choice but they are closed the week I am there.

Arpege was an option but I am afraid the vegetarian-focused cuisine may leave me disappointed.

Tour D'argent perhaps just for the history... But do they have a dress code? (would dark jeans, casual boots and sweater suffice, or does it require a jacket?)

Other recommendations?

how does this fare with the boss restaurant (Chinatown and metro) and maxims in Chinatown?

I personally prefer the two Chinatown locations > metro personally. for $7.50, sounds promising

If you are going to get a sandwich at Tim Hortons, may as well cancel that and get a viet sub for a similar price (or less).

Went to Pourhouse over the weekend for some late night snacks. Devil's on Horseback (dates wrapped in bacon) were delicious, fries were crispy and good, mac n' cheese was definitely cheesy but was a little bland, may have needed a bit of mustard for some zing. Drinks were good, service was a prompt. 8/10

I like Angel cafe because they give you an option for French toast or waffle no charge. Most other places just gives u a bun and need to pay more for say a pineapple bun.

The A dish. Has more options I think. More omelette options. I like to get chicken and mushroom.

Not saying others are bad. I like the boss(Chinatown) but still prefer Angel cafe.
Overall much better deal than say LiDo. Although their pineapple bun with butter is good but $$$

I get you but imo I think a lot of people focus on that point as the icing on the cake. I mean it ain't like people are saying "food sucked, place was dirty as fuck, server was loud, but it was authentic so 10/10!"

It's more like "sushi was fresh, service may have been a bit slow due to 1 sushi chef, little trouble with language barrier but they tried, and awesome that it was authentic japanese operated"

I know what you're getting at though, there are times when too much focus is on the point that they're "authentic" but not too much talk about actual food or perhaps even none at all, those are in fact weak.

Try Le Cinq at the 4 seasons, they have a great lunch tasting menu which is reasonably priced, and they just got their 3rd Michelin star in February

Brunch is just a made up meal for middle class people to have a reason to complain while they are hungover on a sunday and don't have to work. People never seem to know what they want, they they are disappointed when they don't get it.
I'd much rather go get bacon and eggs for 5 bucks somewhere.

HK BBQ Master 6/10

BBQ duck tasted kinda weird and sour-ish in a food gone bad kinda way. I had it for take out and ate it at home so it was too late for me to complain. It has been 7 hours and I haven't been shitting my pants yet (knock on wood) so there shouldn't be anything wrong. Roast pork was still good.
