James snack in richmond for claypot rice. 8.5/10. I would give it the 10/10 for the category on chinese comfort food. You wanna talk about spareribs on rice? In a claypot? This place serves it piping hot and crispy rice bottom waiting for you. Loads of meat on top and under 10 bucks. My rice bow was 8.50 taxes in. Gave a dollar tip. One of the best places for comfort food even though it's in a food court. 20 minute wait time for the rice to cook as with any claypot rice places. I would say it's definitely better than soup.com or the one in richmond public market. Well worth it.

There used to be a Portuguese bakery called Universal Bakery at the corner of Rupert and E. 22nd in Vancouver, but the property was repurposed and now a multi-level complex.
The only place that I have been able to find them readily available is in Burnaby,at Fortuna Bakery on Hasting Street. They are okay and hard to get fresh as most of it is made in advance or refrigerated. I suggest heating them up in the oven before eating.
Another place is Union Market on 810 Union Street in the Strathcona neighbourhood in Vancouver. Their natas are perhaps better but they don't have the sheer volume in comparison to Fortuna Bakery, so don't be disappointed if they run out.
The last place I know of is a Chinese bakery called Michele Cake Shop in Kerrisdale. I have personally never been myself, but I know a few people who mentioned they liked it. It is more like the Macanese style of nata as opposed to the Portuguese style if that is what you are looking for. Call ahead to check if they have any.
There are probably a few more bakeries out there but either too far or that I don't know of. Good luck!

Always hot, always available.
Sure there might be better, but these have always been good to me.

bao down in gas town

Raisu 7/10
Mentaiko milk udon 9/10
Soup was very good, but heavy. The texture of the udon was on point.
Uni, crab and ikura claypot rice
5/10 tasted way too fishy

Went to Chambar a few weeks ago. Trying to remember details but for the most part I was quite happy. Good portions for the price and very good service. I would definitely go again. Started off with the Ostrich Carpaccio, nicely sliced and went well with the portobello mushroom and port vinegrette. 8/10 . For entrée I had the duck breast gnocchi. Plating I wasn't too impressed but the duck was quite succulent/tender and the gnocchi was one of the best ones I ever had. It was soft and airy, not doughy/chewy at all. I also ordered the blue cheese poutine as a side. The fries I thought were good but the blue cheese was way too overpowering for my taste and I barely ate half of it. 8/10(entrée only) 7/10(if I include the poutine) My gf however ordered the Braised lamb shank and my god that was amazing! The broth was very flavorful but light at the same time. The lamb was fall off the bone tender. From my few bites of the lamb I have no problem giving it a 9.5/10
Overall experience I give 9/10.

Landmark Hotpot for Da Lang Late Night Dishes 8/10. Would've gave it more but it seems a bit too much to be paying $60 for 4 late night Chinese dishes and one bowl of fried rice. Prices are $5 more roughly per dish compared to Sandy La and Kwan Luck etc.
Black bean sauce clams were big unlike the ones at Sandy La and Kwan Luck and the sauce was good.
Deep fried enoki mushrooms with beancurd sauce was also quite special, but got really filling towards the end
Duck tongue was good.
Deep fried salt pepper cod was decent, nothing special
Glutinous fried sticky rice was too wet.

The Salt-baked Chicken a couple stalls down from James Snack as well as the assorted beef noodle soup are spot on.
The ambiance leaves a lot to be desired though even for a food court lol, a bunch of old Asians either dozing off or watching TVB on the fuzzy TV's.

Let me explain why I failed your post along with several others in this thread. From my understanding this the ' rate the last place you ate thread' not the 'Facebook status/where I last ate thread'. Your posts almost always tell us nothing about the actual meal, instead, half the time they're always irrelevant. Even a simple X/10 or whatever speaks more volumes than your posts. Quote:

Hits the spot. I am in a food coma now. | Okay cool. What about Deer Garden and Danny's? Is it good? What spot is it supposed to hit? Why is the orange creamsicle shared? Was it because the portions were too big? This post told me absolutely nothing about the two places you ate. Instead for some reason I now know you are in a food coma. Quote:

could've bought a bunch of sushi with that money lol | k cool. what's yummy supposed to mean? What'd you get? What do you recommend? Yummy compared to what? Yummy could mean anything between fancy dinner to 3am mcnugget runs. How bout any form of rating? Doesn't have to be accurate. Just so I actually know what message you are trying to convey.

this is why there arent any girls on revscene anymore
scare them out!
edit: on a side note, I walk by Cora's the other day and checked up the prices, expensive as hell and the food doesn't look unique enough for me to try it. I could make those pancakes / stuff at home.....Ihop quality imo!
