Nomads duck confit Eggs benedict on a potato rosti is probably my favorite brunch dish in town. | I don't think there is any "hype" for Cafe Zen. It's as you said, a decent solid place for breakfast. Nothing mindblowing or anything. I wouldn't purposely drive out of my way to eat breakfast there but if I'm in the area I would drop in. Not a fan of Sophie's Cafe.
I went to Nomad for a late evening snack and left with a very bad impression. Service was horrible, only 2 tables there and waitress spent pretty much the entire time chatting with her "friends" at the other table while ignoring us. The business hours on google says they open till 12, Yelp says it's open until 2am.
We went at 10pm looking for a bite and drinks, she told us we can only order 1 drink and then threw us the bill at the same time.
Maybe I'll give them another chance for brunch because RS recommends it lol. Quote:

The bbt shop on Robson
mango supreme
ice cream and mango slices, ask for no ice , it is basically a mango milk shake with no ice (it will turn into a slush) and it has mango pudding with evaporated milk on the bottom
10/10 , best mango drink I had

Went to seattle for a daytrip today and was in Pike Place for the first time.
Decided to try Pike Place Chowder - known for their chowders...
I got the New England Chowder and the Captain's roll (some sandwich with assorted seafood).
Overall, I'd say the Chowder was awesome - it wasn't stingy with its ingredients and like most restaurants in Vancouver. A bit expensive, but it's what their known for.
The sandwich was a disappointment - portion was big for $12 (assorted seafood). But it felt like something you could make yourself, just have to buy the seafood.
Friend got the crab bisque. I'm not sure but I felt like it was really cheesy for a soup. I'd say the crab bisque at burgoo tastes way better.
Overall 7/10. tldr : just get the soup and not the sandwiches.

Kin Kao Thai on Commercial and venables.
I love this place. It's simplistic and flavors for Thai food are excellent. The penaeng chicken curry is amazing. The staff are friendly and it's in the less rowdy part of the neighborhood.
Went last night alone and I still had to wait a bit for a seat at the bar. Service isn't slow, it's just really busy because of the food I'm sure. Also had the sticky rice and mango dessert. Look to spend about $15-$20 here.
If you want good thai food, this is the place to go. Legit Thai people working in the back.
8.5/10

With all the talk about Cora's I'll give my 2 cents: This place is junk. You walk in you'd think they were trying to appeal to 3 year olds. I went once and never went back. I went to the one in Ironwood because it was closed to my friend's place and she wanted to try. I swear it's like school cafeteria food. Fruits were dry, stuff looked like it was thrown on to the plate. From what I remember it wasn't cheap at all.
I'm just being honest here. You want a good breakfast place? Try catch 122. The stuff at least looks a bit more colorful.
This is typically what something out of Cora's looks like:
You be the judge.

Cora's is a restaurant and from the pictures googled, it's pretty consistent with providing old dried up fruit on top of simple breakfast food. The one time I tried it (yeah, not statistically significant at all) I had the same feeling that they used clearance fruit from walmart.
This is about as picturesque as I can find on google. Let me just point out that one sad looking chunk of watermelon light pink and dried, pineapple starting to brown, strawberries look pretty dried and white on the inside. I honestly feel that freshness isn't their first priority. Again people can judge for themselves, just gave my opinion.

Looks like someone filled a shotgun with old fruit and fired it at a frozen pancake.

Ebisu robson 9/10
Unique and fun inferno rolls that tasted as good as they were creative. Foie gras sushi was better than I would've thought. Butter beef was a bit heavy handed on the seasoning sauce. Overall great place for a fun get together.

^ i went to ebisu one time during lunch and the girl said there's no foir gras sushit..
maybe it's only during night time?
Edit: it was Robson. Only reason I know about is cause Obsideon said it was there and it has been a success. Will go back next time.

Yeah it's only currently offered at the Robson location. On the "Secret" menu so some new servers might not even know it. I will be putting it on the menu in a few weeks though.

Edit: it was Robson. Only reason I know about is cause Obsideon said it was there and it has been a success. Will go back next time. | Buy frozen/fresh foie gras at butcher/specialty meat shop, make sushi rice with japanese rice with sushi vinegar, (or just use regular rice if you're not nitpicky), cover the foie gras with some rice flour and sear by torch/pan fried, make foie gras rice bowl for a quick simple meal. Depending on how fast your rice cooker is this could be done within 20 mins. The actual preparing/cooking part is like, 10 mins LOL.
Just had it for lunch and could feel my arteries clogging |

Boiling point has seemed to listen to complaints that their service was shit. Employees now seem to make an effort to make sure your dining experience is better, even if the sentiment seems fake. Went to the Burnaby location for lunch and as always the #8 is nice and flavorful with a good variety of hot pot items like lamb, mushrooms, cabbage, pork blood and seafood items. Comes with a small black tea or green tea. I'd say this place got a lot better in terms of treating their customers like patrons they want to have come back. I used to want to give this place a 5/10 but I'd pin this at 7/10 now.
