That's unfortunate to hear, there isn't even a mention of that 2nd location on their website Hida Takayama Ramenin in Canada just mention of the closing date for the Robson Market location

Gonna miss this place, hard to find decent food under $10 in that area.
One more stamp and I get my free ramen. |

Their second location was constantly closed due to staff shortage in the summer, with the original location closed and no mention of their second location I can't imagine they're still open.

Mr. Black
Wagyu Beef set.
This place sucks. Basic food where you just cook beef on a small grill. Salad was made up of some bs ingredients put together (mushroom, blueberries, cashew nuts, greens) wtf?
Not worthy.
2/10

Every restaurant in Downtown is overpriced. How else do you think they keep business open when lease/rent is so high there?

The plan to open up a restaurant and a business is to operate at a loss, or to breakeven. Think about the customers! Oh no! The horror!

So fucking sick of these "food is too expensive" posts.
People in this city pay 800k for a box in the sky but think their food cooked by some of the most talented chefs in the country should cost the same as picking it up at a grocery store. Unless you know what the profit margins are for restaurants, you don't know what food should cost. Food in most restaurants should cost 1.5x what it costs, tipping shouldn't exist, and mid level workers should be paid appropriately as a result.
If the food sucks for the cost, then yeah, its overpriced, but if its good food at a good restaurant, thats just the cost of it. Deal with it, or learn to cook and eat at home. Hell, I'll even teach you the basics if you want, but thats not going to be free either.

I hear it all the time too now working cutting meat from all the damn cheap people. “Holy hell, $12 for a ribeye steak that’s insane!” Then they go get their $20 of beer lol

Sunbake Pita Bakery (Edmonton) 9.9/10
Chicken Shawarma - Legit best shawarma I've tried. Ordered probably 5 times now in recent months. But too expensive for most of RS at $8.50/ea
They also have equally good manakeesh, under $5/ea.
EDIT: anyone have other recommendations in Edmonton? can be a quick bite or a sit-down meal, $ or $$$, whatever is delicious.

Go to high voltage, get an east coast donair. Every time I go home to visit, its the first place I go as soon as I get off the plane.
Rostizado is really good. Mexican rotisserie.
The next act is a good place for a pint and a burger.

Restaurants shouldn't be operating at a loss, but for a lot of restaurants, I'm finding that the food is just OK when compared to what they charge. Or the quality has decreased over time. I'm all for throwing down money when the chef has really made something good and unique, but lately, I find that most newish restaurants have blown their brains out decorating the place on some new-age hipster modern vibe that probably cost an arm and a leg, rather than focusing on the food. I don't care if I am sitting on a old milk crate. Just give me some good food damnit.

If you feel that way you shouldn’t feel targeted by what I’m saying, so no need to worry about it or try and justify it to me. When people paint all restaurants with the broad stroke of “Vancouver restaurants are too expensive” yet they eat out 5 nights a week and can’t cook a mr noodles, it gets fucking annoying. You shouldn’t expect to go out 5 nights a week and get incredible food unless you have a big budget for it. That’s not a reasonable expectation.

Lotus Pho Restaurant on no5 and cambie. Probably one of the best bowls of pho I had in a long while. Noodles don't come out in cake form at the bottom of the bowl and flavors are excellent. The beat sprouts are plentiful and the salad rolls are good. 9/10 as far as pho goes.

IE. we were going to jersey boys at the QE and had to try and have a quick dinner before hand nearby, ended up at moxies on Georgia (yea I know it’s moxies)
I got the chicken club sandwich and wifey had an appy, we both had a drink. The service was terrible, wifes wine glass had lipstick all over it. Food was bad, and he bill comes, $84 with a tip.
I leave more disappointed with experiences like this than anything just because there were better options. It’s just human nature but I’ll brood over the $30 high buy of a t shirt I’ll never wear over losing $300 at the casino
