and for people thinking food is expensive, these chefs and cook get up at 4-5am in the morning getting to work in the cold prepping your sauces and meat/veggies
i am grateful for them and their prices should justify the hard work and taste of the restaurant.

That’s no difference than some cop or soldier taking stress leave because they had a traumatic experience imo, you know what you signed up for.

Chinatown BBQ on 130 East Pender. 8.5/10, good old fashion Chinese BBQ in a retro feel and vibe place, items tasted great, service was friendly. Vanouver Sun article if you're interested.

Going to Vegas in a couple weeks. Anyone have recommendations on a good steakhouse? Looking for great steak and good ambience(for the fiancé of course) I found The Steak House (Circus Circus) and The Capital Grill( Fashion Mall) The former being a hidden gem and the latter a chain(not familiar with the name). Doesn't have to be $100+ steaks but definitely not some hole in the wall especially since it's her bday.lol

The martini's were delicious. The steaks were solid, definitely get the truffle mash. Best of all if you reserve/request for outside seating you can get a great view of the Bellagio water fountains while enjoying your meal.

Been to Morton's when it was around. Funny thing is, the most memorable thing to me was their bread and souffle. I had the porterhouse and it was impossible to finish. |

Must have meant size. It was delicious and massive. I was told I wouldn’t finish it so I accepted the challenge and ate nothing but steak. No room for sides but I got it done. And I’m not a big dude by any means.
Seriously, go to Mortons for a good steakhouse experience if you haven’t been before.

| Pokerrito
Addicted to poke bowls lately and since this is near BCIT downtown campus, it is all I eat for lunch. Value wise, this place is the best out of the 2 I've tried.
Overall, 2/3 (depends on size) scoops of protein, then 3 mix-ins, 2 sides, and 5 toppings. They have crab meat for sides, which I love.
Try to avoid going there at lunch time weekdays, the line up goes out the store and half way down the block.
Service: 9/10. Fast and the girls are very patient when customers are indecisive. Some even suggest a selection for you.
Environment: 9/10. Very clean, but the store is very small and very limited seating.
Value: 8/10. IMO, expensive for what you get, but because it's healthy, it makes up for it.
Quality: 9/10. Haven't experience anything wrong with the food except the water they serve is tap water. Pacific Poke
The second poke bowl place I've tried today. I went there expecting something similar to Pokerrito, but the variety was less for the same price.
Service: 5/10. Maybe it's just that one server, but he was rushing me to pick my toppings when nobody was behind me in line. I was looking at the menu on the wall to see what I want, and he insisted that I just look at the toppings and choose. I mean, how the fuck do I know what is what? I asked for wasabi [something], and he put the ginger instead. I confirmed I want wasabi, but it was too late to take all the ginger out. Wasn't satisfied with that particular server.
Environment: 9.5/10. Same, very clean and the place is a little bigger than Pokerrito.
Value: 6/10. Same price as Pokerrito, but less stuff to choose from. They don't have "sides" to choose. It's protein, to toppings, to mix-ins. And the guy only gave me like, I think, 3 strands of sprouts that is half the size of Pokerrito...
Quality: 9/10. No problem with quality, but again, tap water.
Will be trying Westcoast Poke next.

Not sure if this is for all locations but the Pokerrito on Hornby St. has a 10% discount if you bring your own bowl.

Just heads up that Dine-Out Vancouver is starting again, taking reservations starting today. Ebisu Robson has a killer 3-course menu. I don't even like sweets but the yuzu ice cream is amazing!

Lol I had a radio interview today about DOV. I’m not gonna tell you when it airs though since I was so awkward.
Godspeed to you and your staff obsideon, and good luck to all the chefs, cooks and servers of RS. It’s a lot less stressful than it was 5 years ago.

lol whaat I want to hear the interview!
Hmm what's the difference from 5 years ago? Personally it's still pretty much the same stress give or take a few grey hairs lol, just deciding from all the different plates we tried before finalizing the menu literally 35 minutes before the submission deadline.

I haven't done Dine Out Vancouver in 3 years. Wondering if it is better now? I know it is crazy for the restaurant, but for the diner as well, I always felt rushed.

^^ You are certainly not alone. As a customer, I felt very rushed and under pressue during Dine Out Vancouver events as well. But much like you, my "most recent" DOV experience was from a few years ago.
IMO, if someone is willing to plow through a few foodie reviews, keep an eye out for where their foodie friends eat, etc. It is already pretty easy to get yourself a variety of great eats during the regular times. Slower pace, larger regular sized portions, more relaxed atmosphere. I'd much prefer that over the pace of DOV now, even though I appreciate what DOV offers.
