Nikkyu Japanese Restaurant - Negative 1000/10

California roll - rice was dry and seaweed was not fresh
Sockeye salmon nigiri - nothing special
Chopped scallop nigiri - boring
Beef short ribs - blah
BBQ'd squid - it was boiled and then lightly deep fried. Fuck

Place is a shithole and is owned and operated by rude, mannerless Chinese Mainlanders. Do not go to this dump.

My Chau Vietnamese restaurant on Kingsway, Vancouver.

Good pho (had quail eggs and other interesting bits) and their deep fried chicken rice was really tasty as well. Spring rolls were a bit bland but passable. Service was next to non-existent like most other Vietnamese places. 7.5/10

you know the two sided pour soy sauce dispensers? well I poured some soy sauce from one side into my dipping dish, and a fruit fly came along with the soy sauce, I was like that's gross. I brought that to their attention and they said sorry and gave me a new dish, I poured from the other side and another fruit fly came out. Disgusting shit.

Ate at a Meat and Bread in Gastown a few days ago. It's nice inside but very casual. Food was very tasty. Ordered a roast pork sandwhich with green salsa on a ciabatta bun for $8. yummmm at the roast pork skin. Only thing is they're now closed till Jan 4th and they're only open 11am to 5pm.

Sushi Garden

Ordered the mixed sashimi on rice. Fresh sashimi, generous portions, good price. 9/10.

Le Gavroshe on Alberni
5/10

Service was horrible dinner took 3.5 hours, they comp'd the desert for us for the wait.

Beef Tartar was ok and they make it table side
Ceasar salad was made tableside but way over dressed and half my salad was core's
Lobster thermidor was gross, the side vegtables were over cooked and dead
Lamb Rack wasn't butched properly and had a tone of grissle left on it

I would never recommend it to anyone

Bill for 2 was about 150

Pizza place across the Joyce Skytrain station.

I got 2 big slices of pizza (1 vegetarian w/ olives, the other ham + banana peppers) and a Ginger Ale for 4 bux!

It was really tasty and doughy just the way I like it. Not as fresh as I would like and a bit oily but for 4 bux I can't complain.

Quick and friendly service too! 8/10

Five Guys Hamburgers: Tasty, but the hamburger was a bit compacted.

Guu Garden
Loved the location and decor. Waitress' english was limited but she tried and was friendly anyhow.
Had the pork tenderloin rice burger - meat was nicely cooked. Came with miso soup, onion rings, and salad for 10 bucks.

Sounds yummy!

Where is Guu Garden located and do you happen to know its operating hours? Thanks!

888 Nelson Street
It's a little hard to find at first cause there's no obvious signs or anything, but you go up the stairs to the second floor and you'll see it.

Don't know their hours but they're open for lunch and dinner

Cattle Cafe in Burnaby

Big menu, lots of items to choose from. Most items are under 10 bux. Open late (1AM).

We got the baked pork chop on rice, laksa seafood hotpot and thick toast (not real thick toast, just 2 pieces of regular toast sandwiched together LOL) with condensed milk.

The pork chop rice tasted fine though it was a bit a dry, the laksa base is acceptable for a place that doesn't specialize in laksa.

Service is so so, like most Chinese restaurants. 6/10 for food, +1 for opening late > 7/10

Love the ambience, food was great, and its actually japanese people who cook and serve you. Nice to see lots of japanese patrons aswell. Go early or get reservations, as the place is usually packed to the teeth.

Bo Laksa King (new Hasting's location)

Yummy laksa, good prices ($7.50 for laksa). Ask for spicy if you're used to spicy laksa (it comes really mild). I am not feeling the decor but it's not a big deal for a cheap food joint.

8/10

Kadoya on Davie

6.5/10

Fresh wild salmon, toro nigiri is a plus. Nori was easy to work in the mouth but the tobiko on the rolls were really wet. Roll innards also wet it left a small pool of liquid on the plate. Shrimp spring rolls were ok using whole shrimp but douced in a sweet and sour sauce (yuck). Ika karaage used a panko-type crust which was too heavy but the squid rings were cooked well. Tea is extra. Service mediocre at best. Cramped. Average sushi joint at best if you go all over the menu, otherwise stick to the nigiri.

sounds like a place i should try, however i've usually stuck to dining at japanese restaurants in richmond or downtown. Is this place a casual or medium or fine dining?

how would you compare this to richmond places like seto , kiyo, tsukiji?

Neptune Seafood Restaurant in Rmd - 8.5/10

Pretty good dim sum. Presentation was well done. Personally, one of the best dim sum places I've been to. Service was slow at times because it was quite busy, but the food made up for it.

Seri Malaysia

Had the Nasi Goreng Ikan Masin, Rendang Lembu and a Teh Tarik.
I'd say 8.5/10.
Flavours were great, reminds me of the food I get when I go back to Malaysia to visit. Only negative for me was that some of the beef in the rendang was a little large so it didn't get as tender as i'd like.
