IKEA's restaurant/bistro in Coquitlam. Not the greatest food, but it's pretty cheap. Can't beat the 50-cent hot dogs too.
6.5/10

Alk-O Bar on Fraser and 49th ave-ish.
Its beside shoppers drugmart. its a small family owned restaurant that just opened. I had the best tasting burger there (it was the Alk-O Bar Swiss and Mushroom burger). The meal was less than $10. FTW. |

Marinaside Provence: 6.5/10
Pros:
- Nice decor
- Seated promptly
- Decent food
- Friendly, casual waiter
- No fixed menu on NYE
- Got the table with probably the most privacy
Cons:
- VERY cramped restaurant, too close to other tables.
- Slightly small portions (we got Ahi Tuna and Prawn Ravioli)
- Extremely slow service, we didn't see our waiter for long periods of time, and it took too long to order and to get the bill.
- Waiter kept staring at my date, and only looked at me when I spoke to him...
- Not good value for the price.

Manzo on Alexandra
Price: 4/10 waaay overpriced, easily $50 a head for next to nothing
Quality: 8/10
Atmosphere/Service: 6/10 granted they were pretty busy on NYE, but something about its interior and its upbeat music just don't mesh

Went to Prince Chinese Seafood restaurant on grandview.
Place was fully booked but they had a 2 person table that was in a room corner. We took it, since the other chinese restaurant Dai Tung was fully booked as well.
Started with jelly fish, beef shank, pork slices. Pretty simple dish that was good 8/10
Then some squab, i found it a little on the dry side, skin wasnt as crispy as i like 8/10
Sharks fin with crab meat , lots of fin, and lots of whole pieces of crab leg meat, usually they give u alot of shredded crab 8.5/10
Brocolli sea cucumber and shrimp , had this with shrimp sauce and XO sauce, 8.5/10
Steamed Live ROck cod, about 1.75lbs , perfectly steamed however it was a just a tad on the tough side, i generally think you should get rock cods at the .9-1.25 lb range for the softer flesh. Wasnt their fault since larger cods are usually a lil tougher 9/10
Dessert: Not pictured, red bean with tapioca sweet soup. Pretty typical free dessert, but it was the best red bean soup which i usually never eat, 9/10
Overall, i would say a 8.5-9 /10. Total for 2 ppl was about $13x.xx with HST before tip, no alcohol just tea. It was done pretty good overall, I expected them to not be great since it was new years day with a full house. Service was better than expected from a chinese restaurant. They actually made other tables order set dinners for 2, 4, or 6 ppl, but I said i wanted rock cod and a personalized menu and they let me order without arguing.
edit: Had Suika Japanese for NYE yesterday, will post pics and review tmrw

Suika Japanese restaurant, (gave it a try after another RS member posted on the last page it was good)
Went on NYE with fiance, couldnt book a table but "sushi bar" was ok, I was actually surprised the table top was huge. Most izakaya places have tiny bar tables.
Started with sashimi 3 kinds, i think this was under $10. Very cheap considering you get 3 piece of hamachi, amaebi, and tuna.
Then was the melt in your mouth, roaste then braised cha-shu. It was kinda like Kintaro's fatty pork. $6 i think
Tuna carpaccio, came highly recommended from net reviews. Had a chili oil sauce that wasnt hot , but fragrant. $5-7 forgot
Beef tendon, kimchi and egg hot pot. $10, do not try, unless you like salty and over sweet sukiyaki. I actually got it cancelled since it was so sweet.
Kakuni bibimbap , stewed pork belly stone pot rice. $8-10 forgot again
Shime-saba salad $7? , seared saba ala Haka izakaya style, was way too fishy tasting, maybe the saba wasnt that fresh. Served with a mustard seed soy dressing which was nice.
Ton-toro. It was a generous serving for $6? Probably double the pieces you'd get at guu. However it was better tasting at guu.
Last dish, asparagus chawan mushi. Worst chawan mushi ever, bland, tasteless, and i don't know why they called it asparagus, as there was none of it at all.
OVERALL: I was expecting to see a bill over $100 since it seemed like we ordered alot of food. It came to about $70 ish for 2 ppl with no drinks. I would rate it 7/10, i would stick with guu for izakaya style. But i'd still go zakkushi for their skewers |

Spent the day prepping for a dinner part at my place.
I got a little hungry so I whipped up a Steak au Poivre.
Meat was pretty much as nice as I've ever done, but over seasoned.
The sauce was just a tad too salty i think.
7.5/10
Dinner was Fake-BBQ ribs, braising liquid reduced into a bbq sauce.
Roasted garlic butter mashed potatoes
Spinach salad with sundried tomatoes and balsamic vinaigrette.
Same roasted garlic butter on pan toasted baguette slices.
Overall, the meal worked well together.
7.0/10
But 6.0/10 on the ribs, not nearly as tender as I have done before, and now that I don't have a broiler, I can't caramelize the sauce to the bones. fuuugh.
