Went to ajisai with the gf's family today, menu was overwhelming everything looked the same and the typeset wasn't easy on the eyes. Prices are alright, pretty decent value
Pressed salmon sushi, I think server said it had ponzu sauce or something? it was a little too sour for my taste
Some sushi combo and a few nigiri I ordered, the sukiyaki here is amazing, overall pretty good rolls, nigiri is average.
Also ordered an unagi don, not pictured, unagi was pretty good, I thought the rice was a little too moist, seems like they have unagi everywhere on their menu though.
Overall I have to say 8/10, gf's brother spilled his water and the server was very attentive. She was also patient as I went through the menu slowly as it was so hard to read. Nigiri is too expensive and not worth it overall, but they have a good selection. They didn't have any teriyaki rice or udon which is all gf's bro eats pretty much haha so he was a little disappointed.

The One Spot Soup House
5857 Victoria Drive
Vancouver, BC V5P
You'll miss this place if you aren't looking for it.
Rather limited menu and exclusively specializing in "clay pot rice", this place makes it pretty good. Very similar is execution as to what you would find in HK, although not quite there.
9/10. Better than a few foodcourt establishments that try the same theme.

happy birthday!
was it very expensive (you obviously didn't pay) at Kimura? The presentation looks alright, but I've heard great things about their sushi. Quote:

All the places that I've been to has "cooked the rice in the pot" so to speak, however, with this particular restaurant, the rice seems more cooked with a harder texture and better crispy rice overall.
Word of advice though, you NEED to add the soy sauce mixture that is on the side. There is no sauce (unless you order a saucy dish) on the rice which may yield a bland tasting dish.
I had the pork belly clay pot rice and it was delicious. Unfortunately, even with the soy sauce added I desired to have the sauce that remains from the cooking and marinating process of the pork belly.

Prices seem cheap! Omakase for only 30$ compared to 70-100 at other places. Menu items are under 10 bucks. If I go to that area I will make sure to try it. Posted via RS Mobile |

Kimura is the BOMB! Everything tastes phenomenal and some peeps might think the price is a little bit more but so worth it!!!!
Sandbar on Sat (forgot to review). Clam chowder was a bit gunky, taste wasn't super on point. Fresh oysters, super yums and their cocktail sauce is amazing!!! Almost like a fresh salsa mixture.
Mussels in a coconut curry broth, super juicy and plentiful for 2! Hubs had the cajun spiced salmon burger with side caesar. I didn't get a taste but he said he would have liked it better with the cajun.
Service was decent, was attentive and joyful.

The One Spot Soup House
This time I got some pictures. It comes with complimentary soup (which isn't that good) and side of seaweed:
I ordered the Porkchop with Ketchup and Cheese:
My friend ordered Tender Chicken with Chinese Sausage and Mushrooms:
A look at the crispy rice:
My advice is to stick w/ the classics and pass on the saucy items.
Solid 8-9/10 for claypot rice.
