Congee Noodle King on kingsway and joyce.
5/10
menu was way too over whelming. so much msg in their congee and their soup. i also over heard the workers talking about how cheap the customers were after they left with giving minimal tip. they also said that if those customers come back next time they would reject them and tell them the restaurant is full

oyama sushi on kingsway...
nice renovations, the price was pretty decent compared to the atmosphere of the restaurant
Not much to say about service. It was fine, wasnt outstanding but it was acceptable... we had a party of 10 and they gave us a mat room so i was pretty happy about that.
The food sucked compared to most other japanese restaurants... with the huge competition in the sushi industry, you just can't have rolls falling apart when you pick it up. And no, it wasn't from a lack of chopstick skills; the rolls were just so poorly made that picking it up lightly, the roll would just break apart. I find this to be a common thing that associates with any korean-owned japanese restaurants.
overall i give it a 7.5/10 i was mainly expecting some good sushi on a tiring day, and the food just didnt cut it...

Couldn't find the lamb on the menu (which I would prefer) but other than that, the menu looks great and prices are quite reasonable.

Kimura Again. 8/10 this time (last time was 9.99/10)
Salad - wasn't bad for $2
This was part of the Omakase, wasn't very good.
Tofu steak (was pretty egg-y), but not bad.
Avocado Roll, pretty good.
Seaweed salad.. was good but there was a PEBBLE in the salad!!! WTF?
Seared Kobe Beef - was quite good!
This was not as good as it looked. There was too much rice. The shrimp was really well cooked though. A very pretty dish, but wasn't my favorite by a long shot.
Chawanmushi (sp?) my first time having it. Wasn't bad.THere was some nice tasting mushrooms inside.
Dessert. A single scoop of Green Tea ice cream. Could have been more memorable.
I had a great meal, but the pebble in the salad really ruined the night for me sorta. That being said, I will still return to the place.

Ebisu 2/10
One of the worst izakaya/tapas restaurants in downtown.
Nachos - a bunch of a chip crumbs with cheese on top, what a joke
Special "rolls" - could the rolls have any less rice on it..
Chicken Karaage - felt like I was only eating batter, the sauuses were too much. Honey mustard and hot ketchup? really?
Better off going to Guu
Will not return.

Mucho Burrito by the big-box stores on Marine in Burnaby.
8/10 for a fast food place.
If you like Mexican, it's a must try. Way better than Taco Del Mar, which would be its closest competitor food-wise and price-wise.
Have been there 3 times now and food was consistent each time.

For similar prices, I would prefer Shiro, Kura, or Sushi Hachi. The soy sauce on my nigiri sushi is a real turn off...

Green Lemongrass beside RPM.
7+/10 for food...their viet salad rolls and subs are pretty good. As far as pho goes though, it's not anything overly fantastic. Spring rolls were disappoint.
5/10 for service...polite, but slow as a motherfuck
9/10 for parking.
Overall: 7/10.
Rodney's Oyster House (Yaletown)
Atmosphere: 9/10
Food: 9/10 (heavy on the wallet though)
Service: 8/10, decent to good service, depending on your seating location
Overall: 8+/10. Will visit again.

Went to Well Tea for lunch on Saturday and tried their noodle soup. Their ad lists their pork broth as having simmered for 12 hours or something, but I went with the Spicy Thai instead. The soup base was ok, but the "thick rice noodles" weren't what I expected because I was trying to communicate to the waitress about "Mai seen" but she didn't speak Cantonese, but got "hoa fun" instead lol. But the toppings I got were fish tofu (wasn't that great - too fishy IMO) and enoki mushrooms. Well it said enoki mushrooms on the menu, but the waitress just repeated mushrooms. I don't know if the restaurant just didn't have actual enoki mushrooms or if the waitress wrote down the wrong thing (that wasn't even on the menu) but I didn't get my damn enoki mushrooms. But on the plus side, the inside of the restaurant seemed pretty new and clean.
Had take out wonton noodles from Michigan Noodles tonight. It was alright, nothing special. Posted via RS Mobile |
