Woodbury? I've stopped there on our way to Boston, got some pretty nice stuff there

Click 04-19-2009 01:22 PM

ya Woodbury Commons.

there's an even spilt of reviews online saying it's got good stuff and it's a waste of time.

hal0g0dv2 04-19-2009 07:27 PM

its a hit or a miss, when i went pretty good selection. picked up a nice suit when i was there for a pretty good price

I haven't been there in years, but Harmon Cove out in Secaucus was pretty decent back in the day. It's in NJ, where clothing has 0% sales tax. It's just over the NY/NJ border if you want to make the trek out there.

my gf and I have 3 days in NY (May 2-5) so looks like this will be a lower priority since I heard there's way too much to see in the city already.

I'll update if I do end up going though.

Any hotel recommendations, close to Time Square and at a reasonable rate (less than $150 a night)? Any of the hotels offer shuttle service to and from JFK airport? For those who saw Lion King, is it worth it?

:lol

Maybe try a B&B? I've never tried one in Manhattan myself, but as long as it's clean..

Try a pod hotel... but most of the hotels in Manhattan are like $400/night

syee 05-31-2009 08:08 AM

Do a search on some of the travel search sites. I just did a check on cheaptickets.com for hotels in Times Square, and you can get a 3 star hotel starting from $116USD/night. However, it's one of those privately owned boutique hotels. I'd still check up the hotel reviews on TripAdvisor since some of them can be kind of sketchy.

I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn (Chelsea area) for less than $150US/night last year. It was a really good deal because it was on the south edge of Times Square, and is cheaper than the Hilton Garden Inn located directly in Times Square. Takes a 15 minute walk to start getting into the good areas of Times Square to see, or a quick subway ride directly into the heart of it. It had a Red subway line station right on the corner of the block.

Recently renovated, everything in the room was new and clean, including a large LCD with HDTV programming, fridge, and microwave. I am told that their rooms are very large by Manhattan standards (its the only NY hotel I've stayed in). No safe in the room, but they have free safety deposit boxes at the front desk. Being a business hotel, they also have a room in the lobby with two free use computers that you can use for internet access, as well as free wifi in the whole hotel. The only downside was that the street was deserted at night (all shops closed in the area) so it was a little dangerous returning to the hotel past 11PM by walking/subway.

This is seriously one of the better deals you'll find since its so nice, and close to a subway line which makes it accessible to all of Manhattan.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I don't see a point in starting a new one since there is so much useful information in here.
My question is; which night clubs are nice to hit up that you can recommend? Preferably not too far from Central Park area!

Try Airbnb.com

But be careful. New York has a bed bug problem.

bcrdukes 10-13-2010 01:59 PM

I should add to my post above:

I've had a good experience with Airbnb.com for my trip to New York. I managed to find a nice place albeit on Staten Island. Luckily it was a short walk to the ferry but some good deals can be had. Ensure that you communicate to the landlord you will commit to staying at their place if and only there are no bed bugs. We had some friends who came back with some nasty bites. Not fun.

Where can I find cheap tix? I want to go to the JFK airport though. I heard flying to Toronto and taking the bus down is cheaper but down side is that it's longer. Any tips? I have friends in Toronto too so I wouldn't mind stopping there for a few days!

ohgee 10-19-2010 09:49 PM

jw, but my uncle went to new york and said there is garbage bags EVERYWHERE?
i'm not sure if this was his way of saying it was a dump or if this was truee but can someone please confirm ahaha

bcrdukes 10-19-2010 11:26 PM

It's their way of garbage disposal. Garbage trucks drive around by the hour collecting trash. They don't exactly have alleyways like us in Vancouver so they leave their trash out front. It isn't exactly as bad as he made it sound.

hal0g0dv2 10-20-2010 03:50 PM

they do it at night alot of the times to
