^ no i should actually do that though, haven't turned off the phone in months.

two of my current iphone issues:

anyone's gmail push notifications being stupid slow as of late? almost like it's not even working? took one test email over half an hour to get a notification on my phone. the 2nd test email still hasn't arrived yet and it's been over half an hour too.

reception on my phone seems to be spotty (granted i live in a concrete apartment and i might be in areas out of coverage once in a while (west richmond by the dyke?) ... but after being in a no service are or a low service area and then moving into what should be a good reception area, the signal strength indicator doesn't change automatically. in fact, i have to turn off turn on the phone for the phone to indicate and pick up the reception...

weird. thoughts? suggestions?

edit: also annoying is the fact that the speaker is on the left side of the phone whereas the microphone is on the right. when the phone is tilted sideways during game play, etc (counterclockwise so that the home button is on the right), my hand inevitably covers the speaker so i have to have my hand a bit removed from the iphone as opposed to gripping the phone securely. too bad we can't switch the positions of the microphone and speaker, can we? :p it makes sense too as a right handed person to have the microphone on the left side of the phone as it'll be closer to your mouth ...

^ nah unfortunetely we can't swtich the speaker and mic. I know what u mean though when I flip it to the side. I always manage to cover the speaker lol

Reception on my iphone has gone way down since Bellus introduced their new network. At one point I had to switch to Edge in order to even receive calls. Yes I live in a concrete type basement suite too so I'm all too familiar with reception problems. I've since stopped using my iphone and have switched to an Omnia II. Much better reception overall.

alot of games are implementing a rotation feature now, where u can play the game so that u wont b covering up the speaker.

Question: if I retard my I phone on my computer once I sync it again will everything on my iPhone get erased or will everything on my phone show up on my computer.............. Or vice versa if I restart my iPhone on the phone itself will everything such as picures I have on my phone and apps bc deleted bc I'm trying to find a way to retard my phone but I don't want to loose the pictures I already have

yeah... that would be useful. i guess that's a much easier software fix for that issue.

sucks about the shoddy reception though. for me, the iphone is a phone first and foremost.

I just got my first iphone(3gs), since I had to get data plan, I got the cheapest 150mb plan, so I dont want to be using it, unless it's necessary.
is turning off 3G setting good enough to make sure phone doesn't use data without me knowing it?

iphone is always looking for updates and such for weather etc. try browsing to unlockit.co.nz and use the fake APN function. it should block your data. however it may bea hassle.

your phone should give you text updates when you are close to your data limit for the month

@ seakrait: try setting your PUSH function to retireve/fetch data updates sooner EG: every 15 min VS hourly or manual.

150mb should get you some ok browsing. Odd that they forced you to have a Data plan. Wasn't required when I got my 2nd one 6months ago. Their is no easy way to block data unless your APN settings are unlocked and you can freely change them on the fly. This is the case with my iphone but I have a 6gb so I never go over.

i set up my gmail account on my iphone through microsoft exchange so new mail should automatically pop up as soon as my gmail account receives it, not when my phone fetches the email...

er... i mean, gmail should push the email directly to my phone without my phone checking for new gmail every X minutes... etc.

hrms... but i guess that's what i'll have to do for now.

ran as admin

phone reboots and goes into recovery mode but that's it
i'm supposed to see geohot within 30sec but i've wait as long as i can still nothing
retried many times, but still same thing....

Anyone know what would happen if I reset my phone?

try running uin under win xp compatability?

your phone will be like it was when it was new. all personal stuff gone, factory fresh.

Is your phone jailbroken? there is a known issue of apple blocking the push notification service to jailbroken iphones.

But seeing that got a test email, seems that you are not jb?

My email comes from gmail just fine. Haven't had an issue with it at all.

My iPhone is jailbroken on 3.12 firmware. I get my Gmail messages just fine.

BTW, how often the push of e-mails is configurable under Settings/Mail, contacts and calendars. See what value you have set for Fetch New Data. It's not a true push like a BB where it's "real time" that gets sent as soon as the mail server receives it. It's just going out and collecting all the e-mails from Gmail at predefined intervals.

googled around and appearntly my new iphone 3gs has new iboot that's preventing blackra1n from injecting into the phone
gonna try it on xp, if still no go, I'll have to wait and see if someone breaks new iboot :mad:

3.1.3 is out and if u want to keep ur unlock.. i wouldn't recommend updating.. the jb for it will probably be out soon.. but it also updated the modem baseband.. meaning unlock would not work

I doubt this is true. I used to use exchange push to my iphone. It runs realtime on my jailbroken phone. As well I had Gmail notifier that uses push notifications. Those were instant as well.

i did a clean restore to 3.1.3 cause my phone was acting up. i always got this message about how an accessory wasn't mean for my phone, even though nothing was plugged in.

so far, so good, minus the fact i have to edit all my sim contacts again. anybody know how to edit sim contacts permanently? the edits i make are strictly only on my phone.

the iPhone has NO capability to edit the anything on Sim. use another phone if you need stuff edited. then put it back in the iphone.
