hey guys need some advice on stolen iphone 3gs ver312 - not related to the guy who tried to get pass lockscreen thread - anyways I set up a pass code on the phone but didn't choose data wipe option so is there a way they can bypass the lockscreen by hooking up to itunes? Don't really care about the phone but I got a lot of sensitive data inside. Is there a way for them to just do a restore and and wipe my data? Last time I backed up my phone that has code it prompted passcode in order to restore previous data but I'm pretty sure that there's another way to look at the files ' btw Its locked to fido so if they do restore the phone I'm sure they have to update the baseband and ver which will render it useless as the phone requires unlock to use in where I lost it at useless Posted via RS Mobile |

Sorry to dig up a ridiculously old thread but I have a problem with my 3GS that I hope some of you experts can help me with: I had it jailbroken on IOS 3.something for years, I figured if it's not broken don't fix it and I heard of people saying the phones slowed down or had problems yada yada with newer IOS's. But I found that recently all my apps are no longer supported on the old IOS. Fast forward to today, I backed it up before I decided to update it to the new IOS 6.1.3 but once the update was complete the phone completely locked on me. It wants me to activate it but it says "This iPhone is not currently setup to work with the carrier you're attempting to use (Rogers). Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked." I have no service, can't use the phone at all. How the hell do I get my phone back? Rogers has no idea what the issue is other than saying I can pay them to unlock it. There's got to be a way I can do this with some downloadable software. Please help. |

Which provider is the phone actually locked to? If you updated through iTunes by simply clicking "update", then chances are you are on the most current baseband. I don't think there is a way to use software to unlock the newest baseband. If your rogers sim card isn't working in the phone, then I don't think paying rogers will help you. As far as I know, you need to go to the original carrier to unlock it. I don't consider myself a guru when it comes to this stuff, so I may be wrong. |
I'm gonna guess it's locked to another carrier that ISN'T Rogers. |
From the sounds of it, the phone was not originally a Rogers iPhone. When you updated, the baseband was updated as well, which broke the unlock. If I was in your shoes, I'd probably just find the carrier it's locked to and sell it. |

I've managed to hacktivate and jailbreak it now on 6.1.3 (tricked into thinking it's on 6.0) as shown below so I have the phone back, but it's not unlocked I guess as I can still no longer get service using my Rogers SIM card. I honestly don't know which provider the phone was originally with but probably Telus. I know this can be unlocked again just a matter of how....... |
The only way to unlock it is to pay the original carrier to unlock it for you. |
What about those g____y SIM cards? Sorry I forgot the name but I've heard of ppl using those to unlock phones. Posted via RS Mobile |

Think I'm just going to buy a Galaxy S3 next weekend. |
you got the phone hacktivated, jailbroken and unlocked (not using the whitelist method probably), and it somehow is Apple's fault. At this rate, I'm not sure how happy you're going to be with an S3. I forsee you getting mad at the cyanogen mod guys when you use one of their roms instead of the stock rom. |
