holy crap.. crazy day...

started preparing the store at 8:30 AM...
gave people numbers at 9...
opened the store at 9:30...
BOOM system down

only 3 phones went through until 1:30 or 2...

throughout the whole day.. i stayed till 7:30 PM
4 brand new activations..
9 renewals

disappointed lol...was hoping the system would be smoother so i can put more in...
the stress throughout the day was.. holy crap insane..

as of right now.. i'm still sorting out customer stuff making sure they got everything haha

threezero 07-12-2008 01:27 AM

how much would it cost me to terminate contract early from rogers or fido?

Domani 07-12-2008 06:34 AM

20 a month for $400 max?

honda_h2o 07-12-2008 08:25 AM

There is something called renewing your contract which cost you $0 to do...unless ur not with rogers or fido that is another issue. =P

my coworkers fiance stood in line for 6 hours until he finally got his.

honda_h2o 07-12-2008 08:51 AM

OH yeah i got a question, im reading up on msn.ca they said,

"On a monthly basis, Canadian customers can choose from voice plans that start at $20 and add on the new 6 GB data plan for $30, plus the $6.95 system access fee, for a total of $56.95 before taxes. After Aug. 31, customers will pay at least $60 for a data plan that offers only 400 MB worth of usage."

how come when i asked the guy at wireless wave he told me minimum $35 voice plan...like is he lying to me or he didn't have any stock or wanted to push his sale away lol.

Criot 07-12-2008 09:00 AM

Yesterday was truly the Ipocalypse.

As per McDick, it is boring. I felt that it was huge in comparison to my old 1st gen. When I put it in my pocket it had a much more noticeable presence. It now feels thicker and beefer than the very first phone I got, which was the T720 by Motorola, when it's in my pocket. And it rolls around on my desk.

-1 for iphone
+1 for apple and rogers for sucking people in with a sexy first phone.

DC Sports 07-12-2008 09:27 AM

Unfortunately, I don't qualify for an upgrade as I just re-upped last November for another 3y but with an awesome plan. I spoke to a supervisor @ Fido to see if there was anything they could do and she advised that on July 24th, they would be selling the iPhone 3G on a no contract basis for around $600. Not sure if she meant the 8GB or 16GB but it would still be cheaper than buying one on a contract and then canceling it. My last gen iPhone should last me until then and the devteam should have pwned it by then too.

Tim Budong 07-12-2008 10:11 AM

u were told mnimun 35 so u actually could get the device at 199/299
30 and below voice plans will make the device 249/349

if u were to downgrade ur plan $30 and below at anytime during the contract, u will be charged back 50dollars

FALLEN87 07-12-2008 11:12 AM

i know there was much speculation as to if you had to sign up for a data plan or not did you have to or not? Like could you just do a HUP/Renewal and keep your same plan

yep wireless wave told me that yesterday as well... but i didn't both arguing with them.

from wut i understand is. u can get the iphone with ANY plan. but for it to be $199
u must have a 35 min voice plan? anyhow since i did HUP it works out to be same
for me, and i kept my old plan.

honda_h2o 07-12-2008 03:29 PM

Oh I see, thanks for the heads up Darthchilli, maybe ill let you have my commision if i decide to go to the o-so-expensive iphone darkside. =D

Psykopathik 07-12-2008 03:45 PM

hey Darthchilli, il be glad to get my HUP thru u if you got any 16\gb in white left, thanks.

PM me if u can do it

Tim Budong 07-12-2008 06:14 PM

unfortunately....
im not a salesperson....
im the iPhone Retail Representative...
i go around making sure stores know their knowledge...and make sure that they wont fail the dreaded apple police mystery shoppers

Rogers knows they are going around, my job is to make sure front line know what they are doing.

my recommendations for some good customer service(though it might be tough to expect ANY at the moment due to the craziness..as everyone is human..and people get mad...)

recommended RS sales people
Shuya80(Tim) Brentwood Rogers Plus Corporate
Scheng924(simon) Richmond Center Fido Corporate store

others..cant really put down names
but look for..

Manager at Telephone Booth Richmond Center
Manager at CellCom Rogers Oakridge
Manager at Celtek Rogers Aberdeen/Metropolis/Robson
Manager at Fido Service/Repair on Kingsway and Royal Oakand
to hondah20...u cant really call it the dark side since hte data plan is the best deal for data in wireless history in Canada...and no..$7 unlimited WAP browsing doesnt count...

the best deal would be cityfido+the promo data plan...its sooo awesome

its like unlimited EVERYTHING
for those that can wait...call customer service..and do an upgrade...but good luck waiting..
and like..really..waiting...wobuffet waited for close to 3hrs

bigrig 07-12-2008 08:23 PM

hey darthchilli, quick ques for ya since ur pretty knowledgeable.

i currently have 2 lines with rogers a work phone that i got in dec 07 and a berry that i got in march 08. both of these lines are locked into a 3 yr contract. so technically im not eligible for a hardware upgrade yet but do you think there is anything i can do so i can get the iphone? both my lines together run me about 400-450 a month.

kcl38 07-12-2008 08:29 PM

Hey, my entire family is switching to Fido this month and I was wonder if I can purchase a 3G iphone under a couples plan with no data plan? :P

stuff99 07-12-2008 11:28 PM

i met tim from brentwood on launch day

At store level, there is nothing they can do..your best bet is to call customer service and see what they do, Rogers isnt THAT HORRIBLE to the consumers, Telecommunication companies in Canada thrive on high revenue customers and loyalty. It doesnt hurt to give them a call...dial *611 and speak with RETENTIONS

Very possible, but again, call customer service for this, as store level frowns upon stand-alone upgrades w/o data, even if its two lines! Store levels have pretty high goals right now. then again, store level is OBLIGATED to obey the policies and grant you your upgrade. The data plan is worth every penny, most of the population cant even use up 3gb of data on their PCs per month!

regardless, if u want to be gauranteed a phone, *611 on ur cell is the only way to get what u need w/o being hassled or waiting for the system to allow store level to get things done

You will be roaming on Softbank network in Japan and will be able to connect to their voice n data network

thus HUGH roaming charges

who wants to us an iphone in japan anywys
LOL

observer 07-13-2008 03:15 PM

Thanks, just trying to figure out a way to receive emergency calls. Find it funny so many phones are considered 'world phones' yet don't work in Japan (all Telus and Rogers models).

TRDood 07-13-2008 07:40 PM

got 16gb in white =)

does anyone know how to disable network data?
ever since my gf got it.. she did like 400kb and fido is going to charge that right?

no, she didn't get a dataplan.

overall, i don't see anything special compared to the 1st gen.. maybe it looks better from the back, that's it. but for only $349.99.. its well worth the money! (comparing the other high end Nokia or SE phones that cost $500+)

cspec 07-13-2008 08:23 PM

you have to call fido to close off all data connections

threezero 07-13-2008 11:08 PM

ok how do i know i qualifield for this HUP thing? I'm currently on fido with no contract and a kickass plan (the old fido2fido). been with fido for more than 4 years.

I don't quite get this so if i qualifield i can sign a contract for 3 year and keep my plan AND get the iphone at 199$? do i have to sign up for the data plan? can i sign up later if i decide to?

Simplex123 07-14-2008 12:05 AM

yeah, i have the exact same question.
except i have 2 years left on my contract, does that make a difference?

you qualify for HUP if u have no contract and get the phone at 199/299..unless u have $25 f2f, then u pay $50 on top of those 2 prices
u dont have to get data, but you should as then you will be able to fully enjoy what the iPhone 3G can offer you! GPS requires data anyways..and 6gb allows u to do ALOT of things

for fido..u qualify for upgrade if u have 14months remaining on ur 3yr contract or 6months remaining on your 2 year

for Rogers, you qualify after 1 year into your 3 year contract, but you will be on tier1 pricing, so the phone is 350/450 before the $50 credit if ur plan is 30 or below
