you better hope you get a nice rep as well. there's a reason why they force you to sign that data waiver before you buy the iphone with no data plan attached.

i am a complete iphone newb and was hoping for some help =) I can't seem to connect to wifi at my house and seem to only be able to use Edge to access the net.

any suggestions?

ok so now i m connected (i m assuming i am connected since there is that connection symbol on my screen) but when i use safari or itunes it switches back to the rogers 3g symbol. does this mean its using edge to access the net?

anyways, i just got the 3g iphone from fido recently too with no data. i find everything need to go through Itunes which sucks.. however, i find a way to get ringtones

Also can you sync the iPhone calendar with Rainlender or anything?

^ they're basically the sim hacks that were used when people didn't know how to unlock the 1.1.2/1.1.3 firmware... just wait it out, they will be able to unlock it soon :)

currently fogers is not selling iphones without a contract but what happens if you are already in a 3yr iphone contract with them (lets say 3 months in) and you need a new iphone (ie. yours was lost/stolen, damaged, etc.), will they sell you a new one? if so does anyone know how much it will cost?

i can't imagine signing another 3year contract (which means you have a total of 6 years with them).

but i could imagine extending your contract for another 6-12months if you want to purchase the iphone with contract price.

This was similar to my situation, except I did not have a previous phone.

I had renewed my contract to a 2 year contract (im on cityfido) on May 28th 2008. My contract would end on May 28th 2010. I had called in Fido through 611 and asked how I could upgrade to the iPhone. The first CSR I talked too told me that I could upgrade anytime due to the fact that I have not had a hardware upgrade. Fido gave me a $10 credit on my cityfido and waived the SAF $6.95 fee because I chose not to have a Hardware upgrade. I told the CSR that I would think about it and then I called back the next day and the CSR told me that because I am only 2 months into my contract, I could not get the iPhone until after 1 year of my current contract. I called again right after and got a new CSR and they told me that I could get the iPhone but I would lose my waived SAF (which I knew) AND my $10 credit. I hanged up and called again right after and got a new CSR. That CSR told me that I could not get the iPhone until my contract was up or I decide to pay the $400 cancel fee and get a new plan. I hanged up and dialed again and got a new CSR and finally this one was good. I was able to get the new iPhone, keep my $10 credit, use my 131 fido dollars but pay the SAF. So its not that bad.

Just call a CSR and find out and keep calling back until you get one that helps you out.

turn on wifi. then turn on airplane mode for 15 secs. then turn off airplane mode for 15 secs. should fix it

is it just me or does the new iphone reboot itself (crashes) a lot?

^ i found that it happened a lot with the 1st gen that i have... not so much with the 3g.

im returning mine. still under the 15 day satisfaction guarantee so i get 100% money back. sorry but personally, i think the iphone stinks, im sticking with blackberries. a much better cellphone altogether.

It would reboot a bit when I was still on 1.0.2. My phone has been rock steady ever since I've upgraded to 1.1.4

People have been saying the 2.0 firmware is still a little buggy so I guess that's to be expected.

I looked at my friend's 3G version today and it was laggy as hell. It took like 10 seconds for the keyboard to pop-up and the typing was slow as hell too... the keys magnified (after you press it) and got stuck for like 2 seconds each. Trying to type like that was ridiculous. It was better after a reboot but it eventually came back. I have a feeling there's some kind of memory leak in the new firmware.

^ mine performs perfectly fine... i don't know what kind of issue your friend has, maybe he has added way too many applications

but yeah i do believe that there is a memory leak since i think 1.1.4 is faster
