3.5G, A-GPS, New Firmware(iPhone 1.0 should run 2.0 firm), Color(White/Black), Better reception(Apple is now using Plastic back instead of Metal), Same shitty camera.

EDIT: iPhone 2.0 is slightly thicker BUT lighter in weight.

McDick 06-09-2008 09:02 PM

But then.. who give a shxt that everyone going to have one...
It's how much iphone will help you in your daily life...
since it sync with everything on my mac like address book, calendar, photos.... etc... it really helps ....

I don't mind carry the same phone as everybody's...
I bet 99% of you drove a car that is the same as majority of people in Vancovuer (like BMW, Benz, Lexus, Honda, Toyota, VW.... etc)

Tim Budong 06-09-2008 09:13 PM

from what i understand..most contracts will be similar to the ATT/Apple agreement..
so most countries would have to follow suit
regardless...its $199/299 with contract UNTIL FURTHER NEWS

avinayyar 06-09-2008 09:23 PM

Thats the **Subsidized** price. You wont get away without signing up a $30-50 data plan or a Special iPhone data plan if you are planning to get an iPhone from Rogers or Fido.

Apple is selling these for $199/299, But will receive additional cost / profit from your monthly bill.

AT&T is now charging $30 for Unlimited 3G access on new iPhone activations.

avinayyar 06-09-2008 09:24 PM

P.S. in store activations only. You cannot buy iPhone and do it online anymore.

cspec 06-09-2008 10:14 PM

game over for almost all phone companies now...

Ztealth 06-09-2008 10:17 PM

unless they come out with a real iphone killer but half the price...$100 iphone killer from nokia..

CC 06-09-2008 10:59 PM

I am liking how they are having it in white. Loves it!

dton13 06-09-2008 10:59 PM

iphone 1.1.3 does not have A-GPS.

iphone 3g has an actual GPS radio built in.

djalf 06-10-2008 12:41 PM

not that yahoo is the best place to find phone news, but I found this to be quite interesting:

http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/94465

so it is almost confirmed you can't get an iphone without a plan, and in the long run it will cost you more according to that.

tom827 06-10-2008 01:58 PM

they're both with contracts 199 for the 8gb wif 3yr contract and 299 for 16 wif 3yr for rogers only, fido nope...sorry...=)

BlackZRoadster 06-10-2008 02:34 PM

^ its coming out for fido as well, i've already called to confirm, plus its on apple.ca as a retailer

no one on craigslist is budging.. they think its rare.

It wont be that much cheaper. Can't walk into an apple store and buy the new iphone anyways.. gonna have to sign that 3 year contract.

avinayyar 06-10-2008 04:58 PM

Only two major upgrades, A-GPS + 3G and colored PLASTIC backs(if you consider that as an Upgrade??)

The only attractive thing at the moment = $199 price tag w/ 3 Year contract. We will all soon find this unattractive once Rogers / Fido release specially tailored iPhone Voice+Data plans.

honda_h2o 06-10-2008 05:44 PM

My intuition tells me Rogers will come up with a $45 200anytime minutes, unlimited incoming sms, unlimited data.

92prelude 06-10-2008 05:49 PM

So I know that there is the new "In store activation ONLY" factor playing a big part of peoples decisions, but how many of you guys work at a fido or rogers store?
I'm not asking you personally, but maybe one of your "friends" knows a way around it? Some one slips you $50, you un-lock it, and let them leave (after paying the full price for the phone)

Quick question. Firmware 2.0 for the "classic" iPhone will include what? Will we be able to have the App. store? Will we get the the other addictions?
If the new 2.0 upgrade works with the classic iPhone, wont the only advantage to the 3G version be that it's 3G and the phone casing is different?

If that happens, You can have my first born.

Ztealth 06-10-2008 05:50 PM

rogers blow, they won't let their customers off the hook so easily, probably a mandatory monthly fee for data plan of at least $50...

92prelude 06-10-2008 05:52 PM

and yes, the sim ejector tool is pretty much a paper clip haha. Lucky us eh?

There is always a way around. People have been selling Unlocked Brand new blackberries without any contracts or data plans.

Firmware 2.0 for Classic will have App Store, Push notification, etc.

iPhone 2.0 = A-GPS + 3G + New Plastic Back. Thats it!! I don't understand all the hype

avinayyar 06-10-2008 06:00 PM

P.S. new battery.

people are just really excited for the 3g part..
but then again.. half of us don't even use 3g so we don't really care.

i just hope the plastic isn't too cheap.
