Depends. The app is not a pay-per-use app.
If your around wifi, it will obviously not be using any of your data to obtain the info needed to tag the song, but lets just say you had used up all your 6GB worth of data, and then went to tag a song, it would cost you for the data needed to find the song.

if you just upgrade you will lose all of your 3rd party apps and cydia and the installer. your phone will be activated but no longer jailbroken.

if you want to upgrade to 2.2 (trust me you should) then you must use the pwnage tool and do a restore. you will have to reinstall all of your 3rd party apps. keep in mind that the more crap you put on your iphone the slower it will run.

i have my apps all catergorized i really dunt want to go through the trouble reorganizing them. Will i lose setting and game progress on app store apps legal and d/l ones?

if you do an upgrade through itunes you will remain activated but NOT jailbroken. all of your apps from cydia/installer with disappear. your paid/free apps from the apple store will remain intact.

if you want to be jailbroken and use cydia/installer apps then you must use the pwnagetool to create a custom restore file, then restore your iphone through itunes. this will activate and jailbrake your phone but will erase everything!!!

shitt, i have like monkeyball and everything on my phone, and all these cool themes. I really dont wanna go through the trouble of upgrading and it deleting everryhting i have on my iphone. Fuck

just do the update, and then like me, which i have all the faps saved onto the desktop, drag and drop all the faps into itunes and it'll install. mind u 2.2 is even easier to install faps. download the IPA installer 2.2 which is just 1 package, and the faps will work. thats all i had to do.

update to jb 2.2> dl/install IPA installer 2.2 via cydia> drag and drop all the faps into itunes> itunes will automatically install all faps onto phone.

does my Iphone always crash because it's jailbroken? like on alot of internet sites, and opening .PDF's etc. if the page is not fully loaded and i try to move around it crashes ALOT

hell the only thing im really using is Winterboard for backgrounds, dont really use any other JB app stuff

theres only one way to find out... restore it with a fresh 2.2 and give it a spin. i think believe it will be more stable and responsive.

where did you guys download the 2.2 Jail break firmware? I am currently using official 2.2 firmware and still feels laggy...

um u use pwangetool, or quickpwn, or winpwn, and modify the official 2.2 firmware, it'll output a new modified jailbroken firmware which u upload to the phone.

basically, what i did was, jailbreak the phone, download bosspref + IPA Installer 2.2 (must be 2.2 for apple 2.2 firmware) from cydia. after installing both, drag and drop the apps into itunes and connect ur phone to the computer, it'll automatically install onto the phone. download the free apps from www.themonkeysball.com or something similar dont remember the exact link. the instructions on how to install hacked apps is from a fourm call xesllize i think.

Some help needed here. Just ordered an iPhone 3G and was told that I will need to activate it through iTunes.

If I activate it through iTunes, will this affect the possibility of a software unlock for the phone in the future?

oh yea it's called IPA Prep 2.2 in cydia. the instructions on xesllize's forums needs u to do lots of things, but for me, after i updated to 2.2, i just installed boss preffs and IPA Prep 2.2, and surprisingly the apps installed through itunes.

oh also themonkeysballs is shut down by apple, so i dont know where to get hacks IPAs.

I was trying to upgrade to 2.2 with a custom pack from pwnage, and it worked but I couldn't connect to the fido network, it sucked.

So I just upgraded :( and used quickpwn.

Yes, u can still jailbreak iphone after activate with itune.
For Windows, use quickPwn but they said you might not be able to soft unlock the phone later, which I dont really care so I did.

yes, I am still dling apps from Apple Store without any problem.
