hell the only thing im really using is Winterboard for backgrounds, dont really use any other JB app stuff

the trick is to delete winterboard not because its jailbroken, i know it sounds dumb and you wont be able to customize your phone, but trust me all the websites suddenly closing and laggy texting will disappear. i had so many customization that i could barely goto google without safari closing, apparently winterboard takes up large amounts of resources

out of interest if i update will i lose things like how much data i used? (i just got a iphone but its running 2.1 and its a bit laggy so i wanted to uprade but im testing out to see how much data would use in a normal bases since i have 3 months unlimited data so i can see if i need to upgrade my 500mb data plan to make sure i dont go over)

so yesterday all of my downloaded apps stop working (2.2 non-jailbreaked 3g) restarted doesn't work. Whats the next course of action? I'm new to ipods/apple, but not to computers.

edit: restored phone, everything moved back over fine except any of my applications. I was under the impression there was backups of them on my computer *shrugs* They still display in the applications list but won't move over... weird. Re-downloading works though.

oh yea 2.2 is wayyy faster then 2.1, it's like night and day

especially for filling out forms and posting on forums etc. the typing is as smooth as the texting now

happened to me too. I tried re-sync with itune and un-plug my earphone and suddently it works again. Pretty strange.

anyone know how to check the call timer? i'm not talking about the total usage, but the recent call timer? i know that when i'm in the call, it's displayed on the top left of the screen, but once u press end call, it disappears like instantly. so is there a way to check how long i've been on the phone for after the call has ended? any "recent call timer" of some sort?

ugh UPS fails me yet again.

they tried to drop off at my parents house. no one home so they leave "door knocker" tag. i call their dispatch and request package be left at depot for me to pick up. closest depot is richmond, i live in Coquitlam.

i drive there after work. Its not there.

the door knocker says they will re-attempt deliver around 10AM-12pm, i got to the depot at 6PM.

package was delivered to my house @ 4:30 PM. meanwhile i drive down to RCMD for fucking nothing.

they delivered again despite me telling them not to.

back through traffic and pick up my phone.

thanks for wasting my time you UPS fuckers.

if i have data saved in an app that i dont want to lose, is there a way it can be saved or restored after updating from 2.1 -> 2.2?

I don't think there is... You just can restore the apps that you have but not the data in the apps

You can but you have to SSH into the phone and go to the app folder and take out the save data file before you upgrade. After you upgrade, reinstall the app, SSH back into the phone and put the save data file in the app folder. I've done it when I upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 just to test out if it works. I was able to keep some of the saved game files I wanted

sure??? here's what i did when i upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2

install aptbackup from cydia (backup a list of cydia apps)
hit backup in aptbackup
once finish, sync with itunes and made sure backup is done.
update to 2.2 thru itunes (or you can shift restore here with custom firmware)

do not setup the phone yet
download aptbackup, bosspref, mobileinstallation 2.2 patch from cydia
restore from backup thru itunes.
All hack and none hacked app is sync back onto the phone
Open aptbackups and hit restore

So after this here's what is save from 2.1
-hack and non hack app setting and progress
-cydia apps and some of the app setting (winterboard, catergories, sbsetting)
-contacts, photo, general phone setting

what is not saved?

In the call log for my iphone, the incoming calls are displayed with the '+1' prefix in front of the area code, even though it is a local number (604 or 778). Is there a way for the iphone to not display the '+1' prefix? For some reason i cannot call the numbers back if it has the '+1' prefix in front of it.

^ hmm thats weird, ALL my contacts have a +1 in front of it and i can call them fine.

I just activated my iphone with this new phone # yesterday. This phone # is under my work's account, and turns out the previous employee who used this # placed a restriction on it from dialing out LD calls (hence none of the outgoing calls can have the +1 prefix in front of the area code). I called Fido to have them remove the restriction and now all is good.
