Ignoring for a moment the fact that he can't spend more than the cap permits anyway, this statement doesn't even make sense.

Ignoring for a moment the fact that he can't spend more than the cap permits anyway, this statement doesn't even make sense. | his whole "money ball" philosophy is based on models of Baseball General managers, the "money" aspect of it doesnt have as much to do with the managing as the practice of constantly moving players and cycling positions until a player fits in said position, picking up contracts, etc.
clearly having a player like Pyatt take up 3.5 on the cap regardless of wether we are up against it or not is in no way an effective approach at puting us in a position to succeed.

I've always thought there was some "hockey code" in playing defense that when the goaltender loses his stick, the defensemen gives the stick to the goalie. And the same that a forward would give a stick to a defensemen. Well I don't see it happening anymore these days. Maybe it doesn't matter so much between the forward and defensemen, but I really do think a Dman should give his stick to the goalie when he loses it. I guess being down 5 on 3, there wasn't a safe oppurtunity to do it.

It's hard to say in a 4-0 game but the effort shown by both those players is disgusting, Pyatt once again is chasing down errant pucks using energy with no result and no physical exsertion against the oposition, he skates for the point of "showing" effort with no results
like WTF was with that offiside where Salo gave up on the play thinking it was offside withouting seeing a call, hearing a whistle, etc.
Pyatt's been in the front of the net for 3 different occasions and 2 of them he didnt have his stick on the ice so obviously he didnt even get a chance at getting the puck, and the third time he was tied up and looked like he was locked up in a straight jacket
PYATT CANT SKATE! he has stone hands, and the guy brings -nothing- it's an absolute joke that burrows is making the money he is while players like pyatt milk a good season and bring less then nothing to the table
as for Salo i knew he was finished when he was quoted as saying he doesnt like letting the cannon go from the point because he's "scared that he could hurt somone"
well clearly the cannon isnt going to hurt anyone when your shooting 4 feet wide
THEY GOTTA GO! I'M LAYIN THE HAMMER DOWN BABYYYYY!! | Agree 100% on Pyatt but disagree strongly on Salo. So many other teams would love to pick that guy up and pay a $4 - $5 mill easy on him.

Constantly moving players is not going to work in this NHL, just look at all the long term contracts being handed out. It's all about player development, scientifically analyzing player stats that aren't traditionally analyzed. For example in baseball, traditionally a players talent was analyzed with stolen bases, runs batted in, and batting average but with moneyball on base percentage and slugging percentage were used to analyze a players ability. Cheaper players were signed by the Oakland A's using this method.
