With almost all the better UFAs now signed, I'm sure we're pretty screwed this season unless our young players play like Pavel Bure did his first season. We are probably going to end up tanking this season (a smart decision, just a shame we have to do this in the first place), and after we draft Stamkos, hope for a better off-season.

I have to say Detroit is the most consistent powerhouse team.
And they will stay that way because good teams attract good players that want the cup. Kinda BS, but that's how it goes.
So in that article about Sundin, does he mean he can't decide which team to sign for... or he's saying he's not sure if he wants to retire or continue playing? Cause Canucks are kinda screwed if he's retiring.
Seems like the only people available are old players that are on the verge of retiring, which wouldn't really help the franchise in the long run anyway.
But I guess Canucks goal is to win the cup by next season?

Canucks goal is to win the stanley cup till luongo is still with the team. or ATLEAST make it far so luongo will want to resign with canucks after his current contract. Bring in players that will attract other players in future to sign with canucks.

Anybody else getting pissed off at how long Sundin/Forsberg and Neidermayer take with their stupid "contemplating retirement" news? At least Forsberg had a somewhat legit reason to be holding out.

WHY hasn't he come to a decision? It's not like he's some shitty player that will get no contract offers. He KNOWS he'll be one of the top targeted FA available yet he takes his sweet time and in the process screws over all the teams making a big pitch to him.

If Detroit made the offers, I wonder would they be "thinking" about it so much.

the thing is what worries me Sundin is contemplating retirement...so his hunger to win must not be all there

^ Something tells me he still has the hunger. I think he is weighing the offers he has received along with other moves those teams make to see where he has the best chance of winning.
Judging from his performance in the past few years, there is still plenty of player left in the tank.

Well Sundin did mention in the past that he wanted to retire as a Leaf. The only thing Canucks have is the bigger money offer. So the question is, is Sundin the type of player that plays for money?
He still hasn't gotten a championship ring yet, so his hunger to win is probably still there. He's most likely waiting to see if Canucks get anyone else to at least make the team look like cup contenders on paper. For a player like him, it would seem more logical for him to want to go to a team that has a chance for the cup instead of money. Money he has, the cup is priceless.

At the end of all this, IF sundin does come to Vancouver, I'm hoping he won't pull a "Messier." Cause you never know... Although Sundin is not injury prone, and never won the cup. So his will to win is still there.
