i don;t think so. who did the canucks sign for that extra 1.2mil? unless your talking about a roster player, i think bernier may lose his spot. i know the consensus would be pyatt, but i just don't see him losing his spot

Is it because they are nervous?
i would say faster pace makes them over think each move out there. but im gonna stick with inexperience. its very rare a rookie goalie will make an impact. i believe raycroft was the last one. before him...?? roy? i don't remember. the difference is how quickly they adapt at the next level.

The canucks technically have the space for Sundin as the elapsed time/games played has chewed down that $10mil figure by now. The problem would be having space/getting under cap next year.

Damn, really?
Does that include OT losses or just 5 regulation losses in a row?
I could of sworn they went on a huge ass slump within a period of a decade.

No, it's because they could get away with being out of position a little more in the minors cuz players arent' good enough to take advantage of it. In the NHL, it's a big hole in their game, so they have to learn to refine it some more.

His contract would get pro-rated. Not exactly sure how they do it in the NHL, whether it's games, or days in the season or what, but we would only be on the hook for a fraction of the $10mil, probably somewhere around the range of 2/3. Plus this time that Lu is out comes off the cap number for the Canucks as well.

Personally i think Schneider puts himself out of position [as does Sandford] because they are not as physically strong skaters as Luongo, they do not have the same mobility and they cannot push off and move latterally as well, so they get caught up in plays and put themselves out of position, Luongo on the other hand is strong enough to get into position, but most of the time he is anticipating the play and is moving in the right direction already

perhaps the biggest difference between Luongo and Schnieder/Sandford is overall vision and reading the play.

fuckin huge win tonight for the nucks though, was almost a must win and it was a great time to do it because the next 4 games are all good matches to perhaps start a good roll going and perhaps even get Luongo back

MATTHEW SEKERES

From Saturday's Globe and Mail

December 5, 2008 at 9:10 PM EST

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks expect to speak with free-agent forward Mats Sundin this weekend, and they expect the former Toronto Maple Leafs captain will reach a decision on his NHL playing future in the next week.

The Canucks, who had lost a season-worst four consecutive games heading into a contest against the Minnesota Wild Friday night, are on a season-long seven-game trip that will end on Dec. 13 in Edmonton against the Oilers. That date seems to sync with Sundin's decision whether to accept Vancouver's outstanding offer of $10-million (U.S.) a season on either a one-year or two-year contract.

Since that offer was tabled on July 1, the biggest knock on Sundin joining the Canucks has been Vancouver's extensive travel schedule. There was also the question whether the Canucks would be competitive in the Western Conference, as Sundin was expected only to consider teams that have a chance of winning the Stanley Cup.

But after next Saturday's game against the Oilers, the Canucks will have played 19 of their 41 road games and have just two long trips remaining. Despite their losing skid, the Canucks were fifth in the conference and just one point behind Minnesota for the Northwest Division lead heading into last night's games.

"It would seem to be more than coincidental if his decision is made right after we got off this road trip," Canucks general manager Mike Gillis said yesterday. "[Sundin's decision] is probably closer than not. It's getting to the point where we've past the one-quarter mark of the season and are approaching the one-third mark. It makes sense."

Gillis said he expects to speak with Sundin in the next day or two and hear the final verdict in the next week.

"That's my time frame," Gillis said. "Theirs may be a little bit different. I can't speak for them, but I'm hoping to have some definitive steps."

Sundin has set several benchmark dates since the free-agency period began last summer and all have come and gone without any movement. The 37-year-old centre is said to be skating in the Los Angeles area and mulling whether he wants to return for an 18th NHL season.

According to reports, many suitors remain, but Vancouver has more than $8-million in cap space and is well positioned to add Sundin without disrupting its current roster.

Earlier this week, Sundin's agent, J.P. Barry, said he expected his client to pare down his list of preferred teams and reach a verdict "some time in December."
