Wow, Avery to the Dallas...never seen that coming. Seems like our chances to beef up our offense is getting slimmer by the day.

Johnson played with both Luongo in Florida and Sanford in St.Louis. http://canucks.nhl.com/team/app/?ser...d=114&iid=6352
Hordichuk sounds damn excited about playing in Vancouver, he knows EXACTLY what his roll is with Canucks. I cant wait for him to play his first game as a Canuck. http://canucks.nhl.com/team/app/?ser...d=114&iid=6337

the thing that pisses me off so bad here in Vancouver is that people are tripping out so bad that Sundin said he needs more time to decide on his playing career..
imo, i dont really know sundin or his personality but I think he's the type of player who isnt going to come to a team if he isnt posative he can bring everything he's got, in other words he isnt going to accept the 10 mill a year if he doesnt think he can at least play at the highest level possible to him, so either way i'm really not worried, even if we dont sign anyone and by the time sundin makes up his mind there is no one left, i dont care because the Canucks fans need to fucking wake up and get a decent dose of reality for once.
As I said before, he is costing us -NOTHING- but money, NOTHING you people get that? we arent giving up anything to get him, it's only money which our owners are more then happy to pay
He is a huge role player that makes all the players around him better [unlike Hossa] he's never injured, the stat is somthing like in the last 5 years he's never played under 70 games in a season, He has amazing leadership qualities and unlike alot of the euro's can be a vocal leader, taking people on his back and pushing motivation into them
Personally i dont care at all if we wait until august until we find out if he's coming or not because I dont want any of these other stupid free agents people are clammoring for, why do we need to sign them? so we can lock up some shitty player for another 2 years and ride him out underperforming and locking up cap room? if Sundin comes he isnt going to be sandbagging or just gliding for the pay cheque, he's going to be giving it his all until he can no longer go, and if he doesnt think he can do that for the full 2 years the contract is for, he isnt going to come, plain and simple.
as well, we arent paying him 10 million based on performance or skill, we had to offer him the 10 mill to put our offer above and beyond other teams, to get Sundin to narrow it down to not playing, or the Canucks

Hossa's a frickin chump, he turned down long-term $9mill a year money in Edmonton and signed a 1-year deal for what the Wings dictated to him (they won't pay anyone more than Lidstrom) just so he can attach himself to a Cup winner and ride coat-tails.
Just for that reason alone, I hope the Wings don't win the cup next year.
Sundin is a winner and plays with his heart, not with his wallet. He is severely overpriced at $10million but it's an awesome addition no matter how you look at it, you can't lose anything but $$$ out of this deal, and it's not my money, so even better!

Many players don't want to play in Edmonton. Regardless of it's hockey history the city is shit and so is the travel. Vancouver is horrible for travel as well but at least that con is somewhat balanced with a decent place to live. He has more money then he could ever spend and although he wants to make as much money as possible can you blame him for going to the team that is favored to win it all again? I sure don't.
I also agree with Sundin, over paying him for sure but if he comes here he isn't going to hurt the team that's for sure. I guess the best way to look at it is if we don't get him then what will we have? The same team as last year plus a few plugs minus Naslund and Morrison....no thanks. There really isn't anyone else out there on that level besides Jagr but if he plays in the NHL next year it won't be here.

Give me naslund over mats anytime and for less than half the money. 10 mil for a 38 year old that had what around 80 points last year. Rather sign morrison and naslund and still have shit load of money left.

PITTSBURGH (AP)—Evgeni Malkin is staying in Pittsburgh for quite some time.
The Penguins signed the MVP finalist to a five-year extension worth $43.5 million on Wednesday, a deal that will keep him under contract until 2013-14. The 21-year-old forward still has one year left on his initial three-year, entry level contract.
His deal is equal to one signed last year by teammate Sidney Crosby that begins with the upcoming season.
“This is an important signing for our franchise and the city of Pittsburgh and we commend Evgeni on his commitment to the future of the franchise and the city,” Penguins general manager Ray Shero said in a statement. “This signing continues to ensure the young core of this team can stay intact for years to come.”
The Penguins also signed a six-year, $22.5 million contract with defenseman Brooks Orpik, considered by Shero to be a “mainstay.” The deal averages $3.75 million per year, or less than Orpik was offered elsewhere.
Signing Malkin was key to the Penguins, who lost Marian Hossa to the Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings and forward Jarkko Ruutu to the Ottawa Senators earlier Wednesday. Without a new deal, Malkin could have become a free agent after next season. That led to speculation that Malkin could be dealt by the Penguins, though Shero said such talk was mere fantasy.
“There was never ever a consideration of trading Evgeni Malkin. I have never offered Evgeni Malkin to any team,” Shero said.
Malkin will earn $9 million for each of the first four seasons of the deal and then $7.5 million in 2013-14. He has one year left at $984,000.
Malkin, vacationing in the Maldives, did not immediately comment on the deal. But his agent at CAA Sports, J.P. Barry, said his client is “excited to stay in Pittsburgh.”
“He really enjoyed what happened the last two years and he hopes the team can make a run again next year,” Barry said.
Crosby and Malkin took discounts to stay in Pittsburgh, as each could have made about $11 million per season under the NHL salary cap. Hossa, however, went elsewhere despite being offered a far longer deal and much more overall money by Pittsburgh.
The Penguins reportedly offered Hossa $7 million per year for as few as five years or as long as seven years. Instead, he took Detroit’s $7.4 million, one-year offer because he felt the Red Wings offered the best chance to win the Stanley Cup next season.
“I feel like Detroit is the team,” said Hossa, who had 12 goals and 14 assists in the playoffs while playing on Crosby’s line.
After the Stanley Cup finals last month, Hossa said he was willing to play at a discount to stay in Pittsburgh and challenge again for the Cup.
Malkin had 47 goals and 59 assists last season and was a first-team All-Star and a finalist for the Hart Trophy, which is given to the NHL’s most valuable player.
Malkin was selected by the Penguins with the second overall pick in the 2004 draft. He scored 33 goals in the 2006-07 season on his way to being selected the league’s rookie of the year.
Orpik played 78 games last season, recording a goal and 10 assists. The 27-year-old defenseman ranked fifth in the NHL with 239 hits.

then theres the playoffs. hossa is already known to disappear in the playoffs. it took sidney crosby to boost his playoff stats, and honestly, i wasn't too impressed by it, especially with his skill level, he could've done better. sundin, yes i know he's old, but he puts up pretty decent numbers. and what better way than to score clutch goals than in the playoffs??

I doubt Sundin wants to play in Vancouver. When someone waves $20m in front you and you need time to think about it, that's just a polite way of saying "thanks but no thanks".
My guess is that he is hoping for offers from certain teams (e.g. Detroit)
