are you friggin serious? are you even a hockey fan?

Hell when gretzky went to the rangers, he didnt even get the A. Mats is a great leader to a certain extent, but that was in Toronto, where ever he may end up, its up to management or the players to decide who wears letters for the team. Letter or not, a leader is a leader, and it doesnt have to be represented by a physical mark. Look at ovechkin, he isnt a captain, has the alternate, but as long as Chris Clark hasnt screwed up, he will wear the C for a long time until he decides to leave the caps or gets traded
Ryan Smyth is a great leader, but he never wore the C for the oilers
Henrik had the A on his sweater cuz salo was out, so they gave it to a sedin.
all that rubbish above, the keypoint is, as great as XXX player is a great leader, a new environment to a new group of people means he still has to gain respect on the personal level to really become what he is again

If Sundin goes to the Rangers, it clearly isn't gunna be for salary reasons, so I doubt they're going to need to move that much in cap space for him, especially when he's only looking to sign for half a season or so. He's gunna want to win a cup and by moving one of those key players, it'll be counterintuitive to Sundin's goal.

I could see some changes in NY because the Rangers haven't been playing that great of late.

Then I looked at this. http://www.sportscity.com/NHL/New-York-Rangers-Salaries
What's the difference between Salary and Cap Number?
So now that Sundin's joining for half a season, how much is he acutally gonna get paid now? Canucks aren't planning to pay the full 10 mil for half a season right? If, for example, he was gonna get 5 million, all the teams going for him have enough space under the cap in this case.

Its quite easy to understand really...He will get paid 10 million for the 82 games but since he is joining late he will get paid for only the remaining games. It will still be a 10 million cap but obviously the Canucks won't be paying him 10 million.

Not to mention, the Rangers are already sitting near the top without Sundin.

Hard to think that after losing 5 of our last 7 we have a chance to finish our road trip with 7 of a possible 14 points. FUck I hope Luongo plays on Wednesday when I go to the game but that might be wishful thinking rite now.

So Rick Ball on Team 1040 said that is reported that Luongo did suffer a setback the other day and will be out for a lengthy period of time. No source except him so take it for what it's worth but if true that's balls.

Originally Posted by quasi So Rick Ball on Team 1040 said that is reported that Luongo did suffer a setback the other day and will be out for a lengthy period of time. No source except him so take it for what it's worth but if true that's balls. | The Vancouver Canucks may have to wait a little longer for captain Roberto Luongo to return to the lineup.
Luongo was experiencing pain while making "dynamic movements" in practice and as a result, will not take to the ice again until the pain subsides. His status remains week-to-week.
"For some time, Roberto has been feeling some soreness when he was doing some dynamic excursuses on the ice," head coach Alain Vigneault said. "When it was in a controlled environment he was fine but when he was more dynamic, the soreness was there. Until that soreness completely goes away, he's going to be off the ice."
The All-Star netminder originally had hoped to make his return from the groin injury this weekend against the Oilers, however Luongo did not make the trip with the team to Edmonton.
"We have to wait and see when he's 100 percent because we're only going to bring him back when he's 100 percent," said Vigneault.
The Vancouver Sun reported that the 29-year old keeper suffered a setback when he left Canucks' practice early on Wednesday without talking to reporters.
The two-time all-star has been sidelined since November 22nd after suffering an injury in the first period during a victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Luongo, who continues to lead all Western Conference goaltenders in fan balloting for the All-Star game, has been spectacular in net for the Canucks this season sporting an 11-5-2 record with a 2.17 goals against average and .928 save percentage in 19 games this season.
Curtis Sanford and Cory Schneider will continue to split starts until Luongo is able to return. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=2594...=topStory_main

In terms of the difference between Salary and Cap number. Salary is what the player is getting paid this year. Cap Number is the amount that counts towards the team's Salary Cap. Thats cause Salary Cap is calculated by Total divided by the contract length. One player's contract might be front loaded 10M one year, but if its $30M for 5 years then its a $6M Cap hit.
