^ that's life, imo sandford has not been consistent enough to show he can be a reliable backup to Lu he is prone to letting more then 1 weak goal a game in and he arguably cost us the game on sat even though it was mats in the box.
Btw...perhaps jay bowmeester comes at the deadline?

Sad to see Sanford go.. But LaBarbera is more solid imo.
Anyways.. Meet Curtis Sanford on Jan.14th - 4:00-5:00pm at Authentix while he's still a Canuck. http://canucks.nhl.com/team/app/?ser...LPage&bcid=292

Too bad about Sanford. He seem like a very likeable guy in the locker room but he had his chance to win a big game on Sat and show he was capable of been a solid back up to Lu.

as long as Sanford is still a Canuck, there is a chance that he will stay
becuz it could have been Labrabera instead of Sanford against the sharks and the same thing coulda happened. It could happen to Luongo. I believe that as long as Luongo is still healing, and "knock on wood" Labarbera plays like crap tomolo, Sanford could be very well back in the picture
of course, Sanford is likely the better trade bait as the article states..
anyone see the Vinny trade talks..wow

Don't expect Sanford to be moved anytime soon - they need an insurance policy in case (knock on wood) Luongo hurts himself again.

Labarbera is a much more skilled and touted goalie then Sandford overall, he was once considered one of the top up and comers and was a top leader in the AHL i belive

well people only think he's a bad goalie cause he played in LA... even when he had a good night, the team did bad.

Seems like Sanford is comfortable being a backup to Lui with only starting a handful of games per season. I don't see LaBarbera being a career backup.
And even with LaBarbera being the superior goalie over Sanford as we've seen by far, by being benched for 90% of the games in an 82 game season, I doubt he will be the same type of goalie we've seen thus far.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Roberto Luongo took part in his first full team practise today as he continues to rehab from a groin injury suffered in November. Luongo could be back in the lineup as early as Thursday, but the goaltender and team coaches have still not set an official date.
Luongo took part in a 75 minute workout yesterday with 3 other players, but today was a full team practise. The other good news for Canucks fans--injured defenseman Sami Salo and winger Taylor Pyatt were also on the ice for a full practise.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP)—Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo returned to practice on Monday and declared he is “back to 100 percent” after missing most of the last two months with a groin injury.
“We’re full go right now, I did everything in practice, I didn’t hold anything back,” said Luongo, who also skated with a handful of teammates Sunday.
Luongo, who has missed 23 games since collapsing in a heap 5 minutes into a Nov. 22 game in Pittsburgh, said the only thing keeping him from returning to the lineup is a return to form. The two-time Vezina Trophy finalist insisted he hasn’t set a return date, saying he is “doubtful” Tuesday against New Jersey, but listed himself day-to-day, making Thursday against Phoenix possible.
“One full practice after not playing for several weeks, I’m not sure I’m ready to play,” he said. “It s just a matter of the way things go in practice, the way I feel and make sure I’m at the level I need to be at to help the team.”
Luongo also thought he was close to returning in early December, but was forced to shut it down after leaving practice early on Dec. 10 because of lingering pain and discomfort. The 29-year-old insisted that wasn’t the case this time.
“It’s pain free. I wouldn’t be on the ice if I wasn’t,” Luongo said. “That’s done with as far as I’m concerned. I’m ready to go and back to 100 percent.”
Luongo is 11-5-2 and ranks in the top 5 with both a 2.17 goals-against average and .928 save-percentage. Despite missing more than seven weeks, the Canucks star also remains tied for second in the league with five shutouts, just one behind Columbus rookie Steve Mason.
Those numbers earned Luongo a spot in the All-Star Game at the end of the month. After missing last year’s game to be with his wife in Florida during a difficult pregnancy, he hopes to attend this year, especially since it’s in Montreal.
“It would be nice because it’s in my hometown,” Luongo said. “But my main priority is the Vancouver Canucks and making sure that I give my full attention to this team and making sure when I start playing, I’m at 100 percent.”
The Canucks are 9-11-3 since Luongo was hurt, fifth in the Western Conference, but have fallen five points behind Calgary atop the Northwest Division while their cushion among the top-eight teams in the West is down to five points
Jason LaBarbera, acquired from Los Angeles in a Dec. 30 trade after regular backup Curtis Sanford hurt his groin, is expected to start Tuesday. He is 2-1-2 with a 2.72 goals-against average and .916 save-percentage since arriving.
Sanford, who returned Saturday to make 23 saves in a 4-2 loss to league-leading San Jose, is 7-7-0 with a 2.62 GAA and .906 save-percentage this season, but could be the odd-man out when Luongo does return to game action.

odds are even Sandford wouldnt be welcomed back next year as the backup the way he has played, the backup has 1 job and thats to not cost you the game when your put in to give the starter a break, on many occasions throughout Luongo's injury Sandford has let multiple weak goals in as i said in my earlier post
imo Labarbera although used to being a starter would do his all to fufill his commitment as a backup because odd's are, if the canucks dont resign him he will be in the trash heap again and may not even get another shot, he would almost certainly sign as Luongo's backup, there is an article in the province today saying how he would love to learn consitancy at Luongo's side.
BTW.. it's kinda scary how luongo "really would like to play in the all-star game"
if he is truely 100 then maybe it could be a good thing and help him get back into game form as well as take some shots from other all-stars, but the thing is, in an all-star game there are tonnes of break aways, 2 on 1's and even 3 on 1's where Lu will be probably stretching out and doing his best to stop everything, scary scary scary

Going with the weaker goalie feels like a recipe for losing. There's many other Sanfords out there.

I just hope Luongo takes the All-star as a warm up. But knowing him, he's gonna go all out just because he doesn't understand the definition as "taking it easy"
this is scary |

I don't think Lu should even play the all-star game, it's way too risky.
