saw this on sportsnet, thought it was funny stuff
top 10 trades done just for comedic value by ian mendes
The Trade: St. Louis sends Brad Boyes to Atlanta in exchange for Bryan Little.
The Punchline: The NHL has been desperate to attract the attention of top-flight celebrities. Michael Jackson will become very interested in hockey when he hears about the Little-Boyes trade.
The Trade: St. Louis sends T.J. Oshie to Tampa Bay in exchange for Martin St. Louis.
The Punchline: St. Louis becomes the first player in NHL history who can actually claim he is playing for the name on the back of his jersey.
The Trade: Los Angeles sends Jarret Stoll to Ottawa for Brian Lee and a 2nd-round pick.
The Punchline: Can you imagine a night where Carrie Underwood, Rachel Hunter and Hilary Duff attend a Senators game at Scotiabank Place? C'mon Bryan Murray - make this trade and I promise to never criticize any of your moves at the deadline.
The Trade: Pittsburgh sends Miroslav Satan to New Jersey for Jay Pandolfo and a 2nd-round pick.
The Punchline: A Satan wearing a Devils jersey is long overdue. And I'm pretty sure Lou Lamoriello makes most of his hockey decisions based on what he thinks people might find funny.
The Trade: Columbus sends Rick Nash and a 1st-round pick to Pittsburgh for Evgeni Malkin.
The Punchline: Pittsburgh's top line with Crosby, Staal and Nash would be great for fans of classic rock. And it would be the best musical combo in the NHL since Hull & Oates were ripping it up for the Blues.
The Trade: Tampa Bay sends Gary Roberts to Ottawa in exchange for a 4th-round pick.
The Punchline: Would anyone else find it funny that the Senators finally land Roberts in a season in which they likely miss the playoffs?
The Trade: Detroit sends Jimmy Howard and a 2nd-round pick to Anaheim in exchange for Jonas Hiller.
The Punchline: It's been more than 20 years since I could make a timely Howard The Duck reference...and I'm getting a little impatient.
The Trade: Buffalo sends Derek Roy to Montreal for a 1st-round pick.
The Punchline: How awesome would it be to see the confusion in the faces of Habs fans when they learn how to pronounce Roy's last name?
The Trade: A three-way deal: San Jose sends Jonathan Cheechoo to Ottawa. The Senators send Jarkko Ruutu to Nashville. The Predators send Jordin Tootoo to the Sharks.
The Punchline: Try saying Ruutu-Cheechoo-Tootoo five times fast.
The Trade: NY Islanders send Freddy Meyer to Toronto in exchange for Jeff Finger.
The Punchline: Garth Snow can claim that Freddy got Finger. (And I can be the first person in history to use two of the worst movies of all time - Howard The Duck & Freddy Got Fingered - in a trade deadline blog).

i'm sorry but trying isn't gonna cut it in the NHL. wellwood is a playmaker and neither pyatt or bernier are finishers. i don't think wellwood is a good fit with the canucks anymore. if the canucks could get something for him that would be a blessing.

OH CRAP, I just realized I'm gone for vacation for a week in late April. Missing playoffs is horrible... and that's usually when it's game 6 or 7? isn't it?

Wellwood saved a goal diving out in the Tampa Bay game and he saved a goal last night sweeping the puck out of the crease... he's contributing in other ways.
Last night when Burrows went in for that slapshot... first thing I thought of was that's a classic Geoff Courtnall move!! Same jersey number too LOL

And he's a skilled 3rd line plug which is more than you can ask for. Anything more and we'd have to re-evaluate our top 6 again. We don't want to have to do that as we don't want to be shaving minutes from the Sedin or RPM line who we want to monopolize the time with.
Who d'you prefer holding down the fort in the odd times BOTH Sedin or RPM lines need a rest? He along with our current 3rd & 4th line plugs are miles ahead from our previous ones. Or do you want guys like Tommy Santala, Marc Chouinard or Byron Ritchie back? With depth like that, guys like Pyatt crack the top 6. With depth that we have now, one of our top goal scorers is a plug. How can you be unhappy with that situation when its such a clear indiciation of how miles ahead our team was from the previous seasons?
Gotta hold Wellwood to the standards of a 3rd liner making $1 million. Not a 1st Liner making $5 million. When put in that perspective, Wellwood = good fit.

^ agreed. i think a lot of people have come to expect too much from wellwood because of his early success. he started the season as one of our better goal scorers, but he's actually more of a playmaker. he just hasn't been given the chance to play with somebody who could actually finish. sure, he got to play with sundin and demitra, but that was during a period where neither player found their game yet. all in all, i'd say he's a pretty good deal and does well in the role he's put in, while playing at pretty much rookie max to boot.

It's just that when the icetime this line is appropriated with is the plug time between Sedins & RPM, one shouldn't really be expecting 1st line offensive production, but instead, to chip in the odd goal or 2 every now and then.
Anyways, glad you're one of the more reasonable fans |

On another note: Burrows only wants $2 million. Alex Burrows Says He's Not Seeking Top-Six Money http://communities.canada.com/thepro...six-money.aspx Quote:
Despite having success for three weeks playing on the Canucks No. 1 line, Alex Burrows said he is not using the opportunity to leverage more money out of the Canucks.
"I'm not asking for first-line money or top six money," Burrows said. "I don't think it changes anything. I still consider myself a checker. That's what I think I am first. That's how I want to be paid.
"If I can generate offence once in a while, I think it's a plus for the team."
Burrows scored a key goal Sunday but was the subject of trade rumours Saturday on Hockey Night in Canada.
Sportsnet's Pierre LeBrun dropped a rumour bomb Saturday — Burrows may be traded if he doesn't sign a contract by Wednesday.
"I heard that hot stove," Burrows said. "That's a Frenchman, they don't know what they're saying. It's kind of funny, they were throwing out every name. Who knows who are their sources. I can't let it bother me. I have to play my game and hope for the best — that I stay here."
Contract negotiations apparently stalled recently.
Burrows is reportedly seeking a three-year deal that would pay him $2 million a year.

I loved when all the idiot news paper writers and shit were going on how about burrows was pricing himself right out of Vancouver
Burrows is obviously a grateful and down to earth guy, he knows the canucks made him what he is today and gave him the opportunity to play in the NHL, i knew from the start he would take a reasonable contract to stay in Van, you really didnt need to be a rocket scientest to figure that out..
but i guess it was too much for morons like Tony Ghallager, etc.

Nice, Hodgson is on the cover of The Hockey News for the Future Watch issue.
