Lu should be like Hossa. Take a pay cut and go to the Red Wings. I like the guy, and his work ethic was good, but definately, he's more into personal achievements for sure.
If he wants the cup, he has to stop letting in softies. Those bad goals are gonna cost a lot more in the playoffs than now.

Pyatt on the other hand, well the name Pylon suits him just fine. He is a big heavy anchor that slows down the twins. Horrible hands, and his skating is horrible. He looks like a kid running on the ice. I just don't get why AV gives him so much love. Right now, I like what I see coming from the Wellwood/Bernier/Raymond line. It's funny how Pyatt can go from first line with the twins to the 4th line with Johnson and Hordichuk.

Like everyone else has mentioned, as much as I respect bobby lu, it really pissed me off that he said that on After Hours. Instead of trying to find a team that's already a cup contender, why not take a pay cut and make the team a cup contender. IMO, we can already deal some damage in the playoffs, not to mention the great fans in Vancouver. If anything, a goalie can make the biggest difference in games.
Look how much Brodeur/Tim Thomas/Kipper are making. Shit, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't know any other goalie whos making more than Luongo this year in the NHL. Also, Luongos performance since his injury hasn't been stellar either. Right now, if any player has the lowest value-to-price ratio, it would have to be Sundin and Luongo.

I've never been a big fan of Luongo's "attitude". I've always gotten the impression that he never really wanted to be here. Understandably, last season, he had a few personal issues to deal with (namely his wife in Florida with the arrival of their child). There were some brief moments where it looked like he was finally happy here, but I guess those days have come and gone. I suspect that he doesn't take well to criticism. I guess that's what happens when you play in a non hockey market. Nobody cares, and you seldom get criticized.
However, that being said, Luongo has been a saviour for our team. Earlier in the season, when we didn't have all the "hot" lines we had now, Luongo was bailing out the team every night they were on the ice. I guess people have forgotten about that, and just remember the one month slump when he got hurt, and then the sub par games he's played since then. Every player wants to win the cup. It's what all hockey players aspire to win since they were little kids. Tons of players have changed teams to win a cup. I don't see why a goaltender can't do it. However, Luongo needs to choose his words carefully. He's in a hockey market, and they'll eat him alive if he leads people to believe that it's all about him and not about the team.

Man I look at the standings and Saturday's game was so crucial in terms of standing/points. We could potentially be tied with CHI and 1 point behind CAL and we all have the same amount of games left.
damnit!

I think people are over thinking Luongo's comments. He stated the obvious but he probably could have thought about the way he worded it a little more. He wants to win a cup, what player in the NHL doesn't? As a UFA he wants to be sure he's on a team that is going to give him a good look at a cup. This view depends on the player, some love the city their in and will stay there win or lose. Other players would rather take less money and have a good shot at a cup depending where they are in their career. I really don't think what he said was that bad but he could have said it a little better.

But the sentiments just rubbed me the wrong way. It kinda made one feel that the team is under an ultimatum. Either be a SC contender team, or risk losing his services.
It's not like he's the only one working for a SC. I'm pretty sure the franchise, hungers for the cup just as much as he does.

Lu's comments didn't bug me too much - but as the captain of the TEAM in the thick of things making a STANLEY CUP DRIVE his comments were irresponsible of a 9 year veteran. Someone made a good comment I heard where Lebron got crucified in Clevland when he said he'd go play in Asia for 50 million or he will entertain the idea of playing somewhere else when his contract end. For a young "kid" like Lebron ya give him the benefit of the doubt. For a 9 year veteran who is the captain of a TEAM, his comments seem very selfish..
Next time he should ask his PR person what to say..a veteran like Broduer would have said something like:
"Right now OUR team is in a playoff race looking to win the stanley cup my my focus is that right now...and its goes on..."
I think he's just putting the pressure on Gillis to not fuck up...that's all
And he's not going to take a paycut to play here...give ur head a shake.

i can see why people would take this the wrong way but as mentioned before, every hockey player dreams of winning the cup. now, as team captain he shouldn't have said that. as a player i think it's ok but if you're the team captain, you back your team 100% and he didn't which is why some are angry at his comments. when it's all said and done, this was a message to gillis that the moves he makes should make us contenders for years to come and why not? we're a young team, have some very good young talent coming up soon (hodgson for sure), a strong core in the back end and we should have cap space for some solid forwards. if burrows and kesler can convince players to take a paycut to make a SC contending team here, then vancouver will have a solid team for years to come.

Much to the chagrin of the Vancouver Canucks, the agent for Ryan Kesler has refuted a report that his client would take a "home-town discount" to remain in Vancouver.
In an interview with Vancouver radio station CKNW, Kesler's agent, Kurt Overheardt, stated that his client had been mis-quoted and that the 24-year old Kesler would be seeking fair market value when he becomes a restricted free agent following next season.
"I think that was completely taken out of context," Overheardt said of a quote that was attributed to Kesler following the signing of Canucks' forward Alex Burrows earlier in the month.
"Ryan's a young guy and he's worked very hard to be where he is right now," stated Overheardt. "He's got a lot more potential, he's got a lot more to fulfill and a lot more responsibilities, so don't expect anything less from me than market value."
The Canucks would love to be able to get Kesler's name on a long term extension as the Livonia, Michigan native is enjoying a breakout season for Vancouver. He has equaled his career high in goals with 21 and has nearly doubled his career high in assists with 30 in 71 games. He is also sporting a +10 rating and is a valuable member of the Canucks penalty killing unit.
Kesler is currently in the second year of a three-year deal that sees him earn $1.75 million this season. Burrows, who is also in the midst of a career year, signed a four year deal worth $2 million per season just two weeks ago.
Overheardt admitted that his client would love to remain in Vancouver after being given the opportunity to succeed with the Canucks.
"He's a team guy, he's a (associate) captain on the team and he's honoured to serve as a captain both on and off the ice. It's a great situation there and I know that he and his family would welcome the opportunity to stay with the Canucks for several years."

It's in agents best interest to have players getting paid as much as humanly possible being commision based. At the end of the day Kessler has the last word and I'd be willing to bet he'll be coming back here.

Translation: if management blows up the team and goes into "rebuilding" mode, he won't want to re-sign here. If management keeps making the team progressively stronger, I don't see any reason he'd want to leave immediately - no team is GUARANTEED to deliver you the cup in any given year (not even Detroit), but you can certainly choose one that you think will give you a legitimate shot at it.

everyone bitching about the comments i guarantee you didnt even see the after-hours
they just read the morons column in the paper
seriously, if u were a pro athlete, excuse me, pro hockey player why the fuck would you even want to play in Van.. the media bullshit alone will probably never let us become an elite franchise in the NHL, with the current ownership, General Manager, and just the way things are are being done as of late the Canucks have the potential to really move into the position to be one of those great franchises that do things right and become a really class organization IE. Wings
but with the morons in the media constantly perpetuating the dumbest little fucking remarks made by our bread and butter players, again i say, why the fuck would u want to play here?

That's all I'm saying. Just because he signed a huge long term contract, it doesn't necessarily mean it was where he WANTS to be. It's just the place that offered him the best financial options and stability.
I guess no one will really know except Luongo himself. I'm just saying that it was just the vibe I got from watching interviews and just from his body language that he didn't seem all that enthusiastic about being here.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not hating on him. He's done a hell of a lot for this franchise and has given us a chance to be a contender again.
