lmao, enough said. I don't think he's going to be much of an impact player.

It's funny that when we talk about new players to the team, we all keep on focusing on their on their offensive output potential. My personal opinions about AV leads me to believe that his system will reduce even a player like Lecavalier's offensive output to subpar standards.

In regards to Wellwood under AV's system, I'm not going to have high hopes for this kid, scoring-wise.

^ as has been said a million, quadrillion times...AV has to coach a system like that or similar in order for us to succeed, you think we would fair any better with crow back behind the bench running a run and gun offense with no skilled scorers?

we need the right peices in place to change the system

I see what you mean. As much as I dislike the AV system, I can't argue with this point.

if AV coaches an offensive game similar to what buffalo had(scoring on 3 lines) plus a solid defence(not even necessarily the best defense in the league) in front of luongo, the canucks will have a good chance to win, night in, night out. i'd take a well balanced canucks team over run and gun canucks team anyday.

The salary cap in the NHL is going up again.

Sources tell TSN that for the 2008-09 season, the salary cap will rise to a maximum of $56.7-million. That is a $6.4-million increase from this past season when the cap was set at $50.3-million.

The lower limit also rose to $40.7 million, the minimum each of the 30 teams must spend on player salaries.

The most an NHL player can earn in a new contract next season is $11.34 million a year.

This is the fourth straight season the salary cap has risen since the end of the NHL lockout when the cap was set at $39-million.
I find it ironic how the cap now is higher than it was when we had the lockout.

Ya, interesting fact on the radio when I was coming home from work. The cap minimum is now higher then the cap maximum from 3 years ago right after the lockout. This is the same cap that the players held out a whole year to stop from coming in.

Plus it's so stupid how there's a salary floor as well, teams have to spend at least 40.7 million even if they are losing money. The rest of the league just pays for it.

how about the fact that the new player salary is now $11.34mil. prelockout, were they not saying a player making $10mil is too much??

So this means morrison isn't coming back? I would much rather have bmo than wellwood but if having wellwood on the 2nd line means having more to spend on guys like hossa, malone, etc. then it's all good

I'd probably rather have Malone than Hossa. Big dude, plays with grit, not spectacular on offense like Hossa but talented and responsible defensively too. I think that fits into our system...although I don't think he's worth the hysteria or the crazy salary (he's expected to get a ~$5-6m contract).

That said, $7-8 million for Hossa isn't a bad deal with all the money we have. Re-sign Mo at $2m and get a few more dudes at $2-3m a piece or just a couple and call up some talent from the farm. Is Grabner ready to f'n play yet?

I like the acquisition of Kyle Wellwood. Expect him to be the third line center this upcoming season. I've been fond of him since his days playing for the Marlies and he's a better player than most of the current Canucks roster.

When July 1st hits, I don't expect the Canucks to do TOO much. Like, who doesn't want Vancouver to land a superstar like Marian Hossa or Joe Sakic. I just don't see that happening.

Sean Avery would definately be near the top of my list of players to sign. He's not going to be a Ranger next year so why not sign a REAL pest player who can actually play and get rid of guys like Burrows?

Next on the priority list would be right handed winger to play with the Sedins. My candidate would be Michael Ryder who most likely won't be returning to Montreal after they acquired Tanguay at the draft and made qualifying offers to 6 of their RFAs including Andrei Kostitsyn. Ryder's had back to back 30 goal seasons before but trailed off last year. Expect him to bounce back with another 30 goal year wherever he ends up.

Also with the retirement of Trevor Linden and with several players becoming potential
UFA's, Mattias Ohlund will be the roster player who has the most NHL seasons under his belt. If a veteran player such as Gary Roberts wants to come back to play in the West I say let him. He'll be a good presence in the dressing room and playing on the 4th line. Don't forget his playoff performance this past year either.

No... Burrows stays. He is a talented young player with grit and a touch for clutch goals.

They were saying that Grabner bulked up a fair bit since last summer's training camp so that's a good sign.

this was posted by a very die hard leafs fan on another forum im on when i asked him about wellwood:

"You got yourself a great player. Wellwood was a breakout center in 06-07. Everyone thought he would be the next captain of the Leafs. Then towards the end of the year, a sports hernia. He was on pace to be the points leader with 45 points in 48 games, but the injury ended that. Then he was lazy in the off season. Injuries have kept him out of a good chunk of games in 07-08 and his performance was very poor in the games he did play. He got scratched a couple of times and seemed to have taken a huge step back. He was shuffled around a bit this year on different lines. When he was playing on the fourth line you could really see him struggling.

As Ben said, could be a good project, but I think he has to play with more determination and heart. I don't think he should have been put on waivers though. I really liked him and I think he still has enough time to develop. He could have fit in really well with the new leafs...but it looks like they don't want to wait on anyone to develop. The other young rising stars on the team showed a lot of potential last season while Wellwood didn't. I guess that's why he is gone. Quality personality though, he should fit in really well in Vancouver. He needs a strong hockey city to play in."

take it for what it is
