On a good note, we actually kept the lead for quite a long time, at least a bit better than the first two games..

AV keeps talking about high pct hockey, but it seems like sitting back with a 1 goal lead with lots of time left is like flipping a coin. It's been about those odds all yr. | his whole "high percentage hockey" is bullshit
you don't sit on a lead for 1.5 periods and play "high percentage hockey"
you need to keep attacking and pushing them and having them forced into making bad plays
the reason why you never sit on a lead like that is its way too hard to adjust your game after they tie it up. its like cruising in 1st gear and all of a sudden having to kick it into 6th gear. it just doesn't work

I can almost bet anything that if the Canucks got a 3-1 lead they would have blew it. We all know how the Canucks are with leads. That been said, the game on Sat is a must win. Going back to Chi with the Hawks will be suicidal.

B Mac and his little buddy were talking about Sundin and his no-show last night. Hell, I don't remember a point in the game when the twins and Burrow's had puck possession where they did their little spin on the cat walk.
I hate to point out the obvious, but Pyatt is a BAD fit on the third line. He is friggen slow, doesn't hit, and has hands of bricks. The nuck's looked so good in game three with their 2 man forecheck and keeping the Hawks speedy players at bay. Yet last night with all 5 guys back, in the third there was 3 instances where the Hawks got a guy a step or 2 behind the Nuck's D man. They were lucky that they clogged the neutral zone to the point where the head man pass didn't get through cleanly.
For a few shifts, the 4th line looked really good. That was about it though.
On a side note, in total, I think there was only 3 power play's in total between the 2 teams. Had there been 7 for the Nuck's like in games 1 through 3, I'm sure the team would have played more of an offensive game. Or would AV play the dump and chase on their PP chance?

I've watched that replay over quite a few times now... still can't believe Mitchell didn't just turn and fire it up the middle to a wide fucking open Bernier.
THEN he TIPS the shot by Havlat if you watch it in slow-mo, that's why Lungo looked so damn handcuffed... not only does he give it away, he tips the fucking shot with his stick out waving away (just like Don Cherry said not to do the game before on Coach's Corner)......... motherfucker... hard to be mad at Willie, but you just can't be that fucking retarded at this time of year.

Team was saying how the nucks had such short shifts, like 30 seconds. Hard to amount any attack with that kind of short time on the ice. I know mitchell screwed up, but to his defense, he did what he was taught since he was little, use the boards. That's just instincts. And if bernier was so open, he should've been calling for the puck. No on ice communication and an unlucky bounce on the boards cost them a goal.

He also was probably really tired at that point of the game, he played over 29 minutes last night and nearly 12 minutes in the 3rd period (if my calculations are correct).
AV said he saw 4 mistakes on the Havlat goal so Mitchell's not the only that should be to blame.

One was Bieska not checking Havlat soon enough. One of course was Mitchell. And the other one I think was him having the team play a dump and chase "trap" type system for the remainder of the game when they were up 1-0.

Playing the puck up the boards is a high percent chance that that will not result in a goal on your own net.
When you dump the puck up the middle, there is a high chance that the puck is picked off and being in the "slot". there is a high chance the opposing player will score.

Everyone talks about how it's the cardinal sin to throw the puck up the middle... but it's not like there aren't exceptions. I think usually that's the case if you're a defenceman down at the end boards, where if someone picks it off, they could just cruise in and fire away... but in Mitchell's case yesterday, he was already at the half-boards... even if he went up the middle and someone intercepted it, it would probably be outside the blue line already... and even if not, it wouldn't be hard to get back to the middle to check the guy.

Definitely a disappointing loss. No way should we have started playing so defensively with only a one goal lead against a team like Chicago.
Any team planning to win a cup in this day and age need a killer instinct. I think the days of trappy NJ style of winning are over. Hopefully anyway.
