If he's willing to sign for 1-2 mil, I don't think we would need him to play every single game. The leadership and heart he brings is also priceless as well.

That's why his first priority is with the NYR? arguably the easiest traveling schedule in the league.

Professional hockey players don't choose teams based on their travelling schedules.

Just like how they don't choose teams on their wives decision right. *Cough* Pronger *Cough*
I think they look at all disadvantages and advantages. Canucks schedule is definitely a disadvantage.

I never said it was. I'm just trying to state that if it was based soley on travel schedules, NYR would definately have the upper hand.

But there's really no point in debating whether Shanahan would come here or not, cause the Canucks don't want him.

Known fact that the Canucks have one of the worst schedules in the league and that can take a heavy toll on players.

lol that's a horrible comparison. travelling schedules don't take care of the kids, clean the house, whine, etc etc. i think we're making the travelling schedule out to be a lot worse than it is. shanahan may be a little old according to nhl standards, but that's when he's on the ice against guys half his age. out of the rink, i don't think a man his age minds being put on a nice plane, sleeping in a nice hotel room, and eating out at nice restaurants. if we're gunna try to weigh the pros and cons, i would rate the city i'll be in most of the time as a priority and vancouver is probably one of the better cities to live in.

Compare the Canucks schedule to the Rangers.... There is a certain wear to a player with the Canucks schedule... Try traveling 4000 miles in 6 days sometime. It's what some of the nucks road trips are like.

detroits is still worse than ours. a western conference team based in the east. yet they won the cup. so seriously, the travelling excuse isn't gonna fly anymore.

here is a article from the THN on the Canucks grueling schedule...
Quote:
The NHL schedule has been released for about a week now, which I'm sure has given all the coaches a chance to peek at their travels, plan their grievances to the league and devise when they should, maybe, take it easy on the troops.

Which team has the worst slate will always be a point of debate between Western Conference teams situated on or near the Pacific Ocean, but after a little number crunching I’ve found who I think has the worst stretches.

While having to venture great distances wears on teams after a while, it’s not so bad traveling across the continent to spend a week or two hopping and skipping up and/or down the eastern seaboard.

But when teams have to travel across, up, down and all around the Western hemisphere is when their mental focus wanes and is, perhaps, when their playoff aspirations are extinguished.

Twenty-five times next season a team must travel at least 2,000 miles to their next destination with only one full day of rest after its previous contest. Vancouver gets stuck with such a trek four times, while San Jose, Anaheim and Los Angeles have to face it three times.

Eight other teams will jump that hurdle, with Toronto, Tampa Bay, Boston and Columbus doing it twice each. And say what you will about the Atlantic Division’s schedule, but at least New Jersey and the Islanders don’t escape this mile-high headache.

To me, it seems the Canucks have the most to dread.

After they get comfortable with a six game home stretch, the Canucks go on the road after a game against Toronto on Nov. 15. Between then and when they return to GM Place on Nov. 24, Alain Vigneault’s boys will travel approximately 6,300 miles and play five games in eight nights.

Not only that, but after the Christmas turkey settles, Vancouver again hops on a jet and flies for nearly 4,500 miles between New Year’s Eve and Jan. 4, playing three games in four nights.

So while I’m sure a couple of bench bosses will air their frustration over the scheduling at some point this season, no one has as bad a run as Vancouver. They have to do a lot of traveling for eight games, all in the first half, which can have a significant impact on their place in the standings.

I’m not of the belief they’ll be in the playoffs in 2009, but if the Canucks are in a good position playoff-wise at the all-star break, I’ll become a big believer in their ability to overcome and finish as one of the West’s crazy eight.

Just because they are in the east does not make them worst.. They play Chicago, St Louis, Columbus 8 times a year. All cities in the central. Look at the article i posted up above .

its much more than travel. most of the times its the elevation the city is at and not the travel schedule. you'd think the amont of travel the canucks do, they should be used to playing on the road. wasn't too long ago, they had one of the best road record. so like i said, travel should't be an excuse anymore. and that picture of their chartered plane looks pretty damn comfortable. its not like they are sitting in coach for crying out loud.

yeah, that article is just something for them to write about while there's nothing going on in the hockey world. they keep emphasizing the miles like an extra hour or two on the plane is really that bad of a thing. it's not like these guys are doing some intense manual labour while flying. they're sitting back listening to their i-pods and reading their books.

the 3 games in 4 nights i can see as a problem, but flying? that's the easy part.

I think being on the team for a while, you'll obviously get use to it. But players in the Eastern Conference will take a little bit of time getting use to the travel. I don't know about you guys but if I was a player and had to choose a team based on schedule ALONE between the rangers or the canucks i'd go with the rangers. It's not the biggest factor but it isn't the smallest one either.

So you've never got jet lag before?
Also pulled from a airlines website...
Travel fatigue is different from jetlag. It's a combination of the stress of travelling and the sleep debt you accrue whilst travelling. If you're suffering from travel fatigue, your ability to function properly can be impaired:

* judgement and decision making can be reduced by 50%
* communication can be reduced by 30%
* memory can be reduced by 20%
* attention can be reduced by 75%

Mmmmm Boston just bought out Murray's contract and now he's a UFA. Now, a guy that still has some scoring left in him, if sundin doesn't come here, he wouldn't be a bad person to be playing with the sedins.

^ we already have bernier for that...

the way i see it, murray is not first line material right now.. and he's definately not a replacement for sundin in terms of leadership, heart and points production..

for god sakes, murray had only 30pts last season, sundin had like 80?
it's a non-comparison!

I'm not trying to compare murray and sundin but I though he could still make a top 6 forward on this canucks team. And if you were to compare the two, think about how much cheap murray will be
