If we could resign both Naslund/Morrison/Bertuzzi for cheap, I wouldn't mind giving them another chance. But I don't think they'd be third liners, more second liners.
The Sedins really need to shake up their play. Less cycle and more unpredictability would make it an extremely deadly line. If we can even sign Hossa or Malone, even better.

I'm down for Brian Cambell and then trade 1 of our 3+ million dollar d man. We definitely need a d man like Cambell who can really quarter back the PP. Rite now we don't really have anyone like that.
As for forwards i'm down with Malone and his style of play. But if the price is in the 5+ range id pass.
Avery would be sweet but with him comes danger of course
Demitra and Hossa i would rather not get. But the list of forwards is a bit slim this year so grabbing 1 or both of these guys to help our scoring might just have to happen
Few more days I can't wait to ses what happen

Few more days I can't wait to ses what happen | From what I've heard, both Demitra and Hossa want to play together. I don't know the truth behind this but a friend told me this last month. If we were to get both it'd be pretty crazy to see them both. The only problem is finding someone to play on the line with them lol. And it's not like we can't afford them right now either because we have about 20 mill or so of space to work with.

With the current salary trend, it will be hard to sign and keep any top ranked players... I think we can only afford 1 GOOD free agency signing, and the rest, would be guys who are consistent but not too crazy.
Biggest problem in the NHL is the shitty contracts handed down by GM's to sub par players. Gomez & Drury, to only name a few who have 7mil contracts...
Crosby [one of the best players in the league] is only making 8.7mil.
Is Crosby ONLY 1.7mil better then drury and gomez? I personally don't think so.

Henrik Sedin: GP: 82 G: 15 A: 61 P: 76
Gomez signed a 7mil deal after a 60 point season.
Drury signed a 7mil deal after a 69 point season.
And countless others signed similar deals.
So by that logic, I guess the Sedin's will cost the canucks 14mil per.
Sure, there is more to a player salary then stats, but this is a business,
and the average players salary is increasing far too rapidly, while
the cap increases gradually.
If the price is right, I'd be happy if MG picks up 1 decent natural goal scorer,
and hope that our draft picks pan out, for some cheap young talent.

Players like crosby and ovechkin dont need to get full value though, they get so much money through endorsments and merchandise that it's pretty much a descision wether they want to remain with the club that drafted them or not
Drury and Gomez are more of desperation signings in my mind, teams giving them above market value, because other teams are willing as well.
imo we need to lock up the sedins, for anything 10 mill and under for both of them, i think it's well worth it, lets see
-point a game players
-NEVER injured
-adaptable
-powerplayers and penalty killers
no one is going to take a single sedin either, they are going to have to be moved as a package and imo the deal the canucks could break with them on a long term contract would be sooooo worth it in the long run for the organization especially as the cap climbs ever higher

actually, the sedins are PK's. they did so under crawford, but when burrows, kesler emerged, they weren't used as often anymore. i wouldn't say they are never injured. few seasons back, one of them had a back injury, can't remember which one, but they both have had at least 1 injury in their NHL career. i think it was in their 2nd or 3rd year. anyway, i have to agree they are very, very well conditioned players. for what you get out of them at their discounted price, i can't imagine what team wouldn't make a bid for them.

yes, we need to lock them up, butt hey wont sign for anything lesss than 5.5mil each. But Gillis should do it right now cause they finished the season really badly and that would hurt their value abit.
Gillis has $18mil to spend wonder if he'll spend to the cap, and i hope he offers more heavy front loaded contracts to intise more people to come here

Drury and Gomez are more of desperation signings in my mind, teams giving them above market value, because other teams are willing as well. | It also sets a natural limit as well, though. If good players such as Crosby and Ovechkin are only ("only"... sigh) $8million per year, it will make GM's think twice about signing an average player who's asking $7million per year. A lot of GM's will wonder why they'd be paying so much for an average player when there's great players around for just a little bit more.
Well, okay...in theory and principle it works... |
